49ers franchise player Franklin absent for start of camp

Matt Maiocco of Comcast SportsNet Bay Area reports that 49ers nose tackle Aubrayo Franklin was a no-show for the start of training camp Saturday. Franklin is an unsigned franchise player, so he is not at risk of hefty daily fines.

Franklin has yet to accept his one-year, $7.003 million franchise tender. Maiocco is confident Franklin will eventually sign the deal, which immediately becomes guaranteed once pen is put to paper.

The Niners do not appear to be interested in signing Franklin to a long-term deal at this time. It’s believed tight end Vernon Davis, who has one year remaining on his rookie contract, is higher on the team’s priority list.

Franklin will probably report at some point during the preseason.
