DeSean Jackson carted off Eagles practice field

Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson was injured on the training camp practice field Saturday afternoon, and had to be taken away on a cart.  Though the extent of the injury is unknown, McLane’s tweets indicate that Jackson may have injured his back.

After being examined by trainers on the ground, Jackson was able to get to his feet and limp “gingerly” to the cart.
Little else is known about the injury at this time.  We’ll keep you updated.

UPDATE
: The team confirmed Jackson has a back injury.  He’s still being evaluated.

UPDATE II: Adam Schefter of ESPN and Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer both have sources saying the injury isn’t serious.  McLane writes that “DeSean walked out of the locker room on his own, got into his car and sped away without comment.”

Details are sketchy and attempts to contact the number of Irwin’s Junk Removal on the side of the cart which took Jackson away, proved futile.

It was hard to see the face of the cart driver under the shrouded hood he was wearing. He just laughed, whipped the horses, and was gone.

If I was another player who like DeSean was “doing things the right way” in regards to his contract, I’d see this and promptly hold out.

First Dez…then Harvin…now Jackson? As a football fan, this sucks. Hope they aren’t serious. As a Cowboys fan it was a letdown to hear about Dez getting injured, I hope Jackson and Harvin both get back soon. Both really good football players.

We aren’t making the playoffs without DeSean Jackson let alone a SB.
I hope he plays for the start of the season so we can compete for the division crown and possible a SB win.

  12. robert ethen says: Jul 31, 2010 4:36 PM

It didn’t appear serious at first, until the cart had to come back later for one of DeSean’s legs.

  13. BDiddy says: Jul 31, 2010 4:36 PM

First of all, let’s hope that DeSean turns out to be OK. That said, the classless comments about a potentially serious injury to a player are unacceptable and sickening. The trailer trash scumbags making these comments are probably the same people (robert ethen and OJ simpson) who regularly call Eagles fans “classless.”

  20. wubanga101 says: Jul 31, 2010 4:54 PM

News outlets are completely irresponsible when reporting this story!!! You people are acting like he was carted off the practice field, HE WASN’T!! He used a cart to drive him to the locker room AFTER he was walking around for a few minutes, its not like he was hurt and then a cart had to remove him from the field. He has a back injury and its being evaluated, it could just be a bruise for all we know.

  21. DonTerrelli says: Jul 31, 2010 4:55 PM

Are you kidding me? Donte was a Pro-Bowl KR never ever considered a premiere WR. Whenever DJ’s name is mentioned on any Blog, NFL live or Fantasy he’s listed in top 3-5 WR currently in the league.
Yes I’m an Eagles Fan and yes I’m almost glad too see 5 move on. It was the inevitable but KKolb has a more accurate arm. I also believe if there Defense hold up they’ll win 10 games or more this year!

  26. LAEaglefan says: Jul 31, 2010 5:09 PM

I just hope he’s ok for the start of the season. All of this crap in between (training camp, exhibition games) just serves to get players injured and on IR before any real games even start.

  29. Violent By Design says: Jul 31, 2010 5:11 PM

All of these sporting news outlets are completely irresponsible for the way they’re portraying this story!! First of all Jackson WAS NOT carted off the field. He caught a pass and tweaked his back and was walking around for a few minutes, then they drove him to the locker room just for convenience. Its not like he was injured on the field and a cart had to take him off the field like every single article reporting this story seems to be trying to portray! He will be completely fine, way to rush a story with false information!

ESPN – League source says its not serious…BITE IT all you haters…#10 is nasty…and why would Eagle fans want #5 back bc a WR got hurt…especially when all he could do was throw it up down field for #10 to run under (or more realistically, slow down to catch the underthrown ball)???

They are old and have poor talent.
Oh, and a mediocre coach who can’t win anything, much less go over .500 in recent years, without (a) a HOF QB in his prime and (b) a 2,000 yard rusher.
Have fun going 8-8, which will pretty much be like winning a SB for that afterthought franchise.

“NFC East is now looking like Redskins all of the sudden”
Are you freakin kidding me? The Cowboys are returning 20 starters from last year. They don’t need Dez Bryant to win the NFC East. He is just a rookie that might be able to help the team in some capacity down the road, but they certainly don’t need him. The Boys will tear through that division very easily. If you Eagles fans think your season is over because of one guy, then you didn’t have a team to begin with. Your season was over long before you lost Jackson, believe me.

  51. Duck Fallas says: Jul 31, 2010 7:28 PM

Why Vox, I have no idea what you’re talking about. Duck is my nickname, my last name is Fallas. Besides, you wouldn’t know class if it sprung for your weekly handjob.

  52. BDiddy says: Jul 31, 2010 10:44 PM

Washington DC has the most clueless fans I’ve ever seen. Somehow, they think every year things are going to be different, and every year the Skins wind up at the bottom of the division. McNabb will make a few exciting plays like he always does, but his inability to make a quick read or consistently complete short passes, combined with crap WR’s, no running game and a porous offensive line, means another last place finish. Take your snouts and your dresses and go screw yourselves.
