Giants give Pierre-Paul $20 million over five years

Turns out, Jeff Fisher was right to be optimistic that the Titans would have No. 16 pick Derrick Morgan signed soon.

The Giants announced Saturday night that they have signed No. 15 overall pick Jason Pierre-Paul.  A league source tells Mike Florio that Pierre-Paul will receive $20 million over five years with $11 million guaranteed.
Both rookies slotted around Morgan are now under contract, as No. 17 pick Mike Iupati received a five-year, $18.25 million deal from the 49ers, with $10.8 million guaranteed.  Morgan’s contract will now be easy to finalize.
As for Pierre-Paul, the Giants plan to groom him as a situational pass rusher.  The former South Florida Bull is a raw prospect without elite college production, but a mammoth upside.  Pierre-Paul runs a sub-4.7 forty-yard dash at 6-foot-5 and 270 pounds.  He has nearly 35-inch arms and is considered a high-motor pass rusher.
He can also do a ton of back flips.  Consecutively.

This guy has Boom or BUST written all over him. I hope its BOOM – as is the sound of him hitting Kolb, McNabb and Romo for the next several seasons!
I am probably being optimistic though…..

I go to The University of South Florida. We’ll show you some “elite college production” when we destroy the Gators on Sept. 11. I’ll remind you on Sept. 12 while my Browns are stomping the Bucs.

I like Pierre-Paul a whole lot, but you could have got Everson Griffin for a little ego and early 4th and got a top notch any other position. Cuz Clearly Griffin is the best DE in this draft!

This guy ranks #2 on my list of dumbest decisions in ’10 draft.
#5 Dez Bryant before Rd 2
#4 Clausen lasting until rd 2
    #3 Sam Bradford #1
#2 Pierre-Paul in the 1st round?? (Disappeared this yr)
#1 Teblow drafted in the 1st, Denver’s desperation for a quality long term QB has hit an all time low.

USF!! USF!! USF!! Highest draft pick ever.
Here’s hoping he has a good career. We will miss him down here in Tampa.

Jason will spend a lot of money on his Mom, but is still trying to determine whether Pierre or Paul is his biological father.

Time, as it always does, will tell. I’m a Giant fan so what else can I do but hope Pierre-Paul turns out to be a great addition to the G-Men’s D. At least he won’t have the pressure Tebow or Standford will have.

this guy has the athletic ability to be a monster……if he can pack on another 20 pounds and keep his speed he will be beast in the east

    @Cup
When you are talking about a USF DE disappearing it was George Selvie, not JPP.
JPP led team in sacks, and TFL.

20 million for a guy whose most recognized not for his play on the field but doing consecutive backflips on u-tube. AWESOME! glad to see the giants using their precious draft picks on more d-linemen and not a quality middle-linebacker.
