Jets sign a corner not named Revis

alg_kyle_wilson.jpgThe New York Jets were happy to see Boise State cornerback Kyle Wilson slide down the draft board in round one.  So when Wilson remained available at No. 29, the AFC finalists pounced.

And now they’ve gotten him under contract.

Per a league source, Wilson has signed a five-year deal.

There’s another cornerback on the team who’d like a five-year deal, or longer.  But, to date, no dice.

After the draft, coach Rex Ryan strongly hinted that his twin brother, Browns defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, preferred Wilson to cornerback Joe Haden, whom Cleveland took with the seventh overall pick.  Coincidentally, both players agreed to terms on the same day.  But with Wilson picked 22 spots lower than Haden, Wilson surely will be getting a lot less money than Haden.

Good thing I read all the way through. I thought it worked the other way.

  2. Jets are not relevent. Watch the inhouse bickering began at midseason when the collection of me me me and me starts whining when they are 4-4.
Sorry Jets fans, but drink all the ESPN and media kool-Aid all you want, but the J-E-T-S are not going to the Super Bowl, hell, they aren’t even gonna make the playoffs

  3. the jets are the modern version of the redskins of the past decade, ask danny snyder how that has worked out……money + egos+baggage = implosion.

  4. Im interested to see in 3-4 years who ended up as a better NFL corner, Wilson or Devin McCourty taken 2 picks earlier by the Pats

  5. hmm…focus on darelle now, and then mangold during the season, and mr harris either during the season or after the jets have their parade in mid february…either way, we’ll get em all signed and we’ll have the lombardi.
    Sweet deal.

  6. I went to high school with a kid named Kyle Wilson. He was a doofy white kid so it’s definately not the same, but I didn’t like him in high school, and I don’t like him in the NFL either.

  7. You gotta love it when your team wins games before they are played, what a sweet pot of honey that is!!! Unfortunately for you Sanchize, games need played, that is A. Best corner in the game needs paid before the 2nd year coach, GM, & never played an NFL snap rookies do… That is B. And C, tough team, but can money buy an NFL Championship like Steinbrenner did with World Series Titles? Unfortunately, that has yet to be proven in this league & I doubt you will see it now. You don’t have a series to beat the Chargers, Colts, Pats, Saints, & other top teams. You have one game & you have to play good football, hold onto the ball, & hope a touch of luck rolls your way each time. Sort of like a bunch of teams laying down & allowing a 9-7 team into the playoffs! Then, everyone getting a laugh out of the team getting the gift kicking the teams ass that laid down!
This wouldn’t be the first time that a bunch of fans get all giddy about their team preseason & their team suck & it sure won’t be the last. Hopefully, for you in particular, that team isn’t the Jets! New teams rise to the occasion every season just as easily as favorites fall on their faces!

  8. I registered after being a silent, long-time reader to say this:
I’ve got no problems with Jet haters. It’s part of the game and talking crap is fun. Best part of being a fan. The best way to win a debate or argument is with facts. Irrefutable facts. The playing field gets unlevel when people start MAKING UP FACTS.
So, when you say that the Jets dealt out Redskin money this offseason, you’ve made up a fact.
The Jets, in free agency, signed:
Ladanian Tomlinson to really a 1 year, $1.75 million (2.5 next year but barely a penalty to cut him) contract.
Jason Taylor to almost the same exact deal.
Brodney Pool to a 1 year $1.3 million contract.
Mark Brunell to a 2 year, $2 million contract
Nick Folk to a 1 year, $545K contract.
Put em all together, 6 years, $7.4 million – Big spenders.
Dolphin, Pats, General Hater: You forgot about all the big names they traded for. The JESTS are so stupid they thought TUPAC SHAKUR is a Jewish Holiday!!!
The Jets, in the offseason, traded for:
Antonio Cromartie, inheriting 1 year and $1.7 million on his contract
Santonio Holmes, inheriting 1 year and $1.4 million on his contract
Put em all together, you’ve inherited 2 years, $3.1 million
To add FA and trades this offseason, the Jets have added 8 years, $10.5 million – A bit less than 1 year of Revis’ coming deal 🙂
Meanwhile, the Dolphins popped Dansby 5 years and $45 million and
(wait for it, we’re talking about ego now)
Brandon Marshall, the guy who punted a football away from the ball boy in practice last year and walked through sprints, 5 years and $47.3 million…

That’s hilarious!!!!! Funny how I haven’t read anywhere Rob’s version of this “desire”. Wonder if the jests front office has promised to rework his contract yet? Great to see Leon Washington has passed his physical and is working in camp and looking pretty good already. Guess the jests guessed wrong on that one.

Welker’s knee already neutralized him. Wilson has an easy job
    ——————————————–
Somehow, I think Welker will still juke this kid out of his shoes.

Gonna need a custom made helmet with a pointy head like that…
    ————————————————-
Will he get extra penalty yards for use of a deadly weapon if he leads with his helmet 🙂 ?

  12. He’ll continue to “slide” now he’s on one of the “Biggest LOSER” NFL franchises.
He’ll wish he had made better choices in future.

    LOL……your hilarious.

  14. vegaschris – that is funny – he looks like [i dream of] Genie. if he would have been drafted by the bengals he’d be mistaken as a hari krishna at the airport

is he the dude that was in “enemy mine”??,that is one crazy shaped head
    That’s funny. Jets start 0-3.

  16. “So, when you say that the Jets dealt out Redskin money this offseason, you’ve made up a fact.”

Actually, the biggest difference is that the ‘Skins paid big bucks for washed up players and the jests got washed up players on the cheap. Same result.

  17. he is a good kid from NJ. Winner in high school + winner in college = winner with the Jets. Having Darrelle Revis as a mentor ain’t bad either.
Cromartie, Poole and Wilson adding more strength to the best defense in NFL – can’t wait until this unit clamps down on the rest of the NFL including hapless Dolphins this year and dominates.

  18. Its going to take a custom made helmet to fit this guys weird cone-shaped head. check it out…

  19. Doug, you forgot to mention all the Free Agent big money that the Jets will have to pay to keep them next year, plus the others they already had that are due to get a payday in Free Agency. Factor that in the Jets have to shell time out big tie money at the end of the year just to keep a third of them.
    Facts are fun

  20. Funny, Florio likes to keep making a back handed slap at the Browns, but neglects to mention that Rob Ryan would have preferred trading back because he liked getting Wilson later.
