Revis officially kicks off holdout with statement

The Jets were careful to note Sunday morning that cornerback Darrelle Revis’ wasn’t officially a holdout until 5:00 p.m.

Now he is.

It appears that both sides hoped to reach an agreement before taking this next, seemingly inevitable step. (Notwithstanding at least one report insisting that Revis wouldn’t hold out. Our own reporting at the time was that no decision had been made. Since then, it has.)

“We waited until last possible minute with hope of getting something done. Darrelle won’t be there,” Revis’ camp said in a statement to the New York Daily News.

Revis’ agent Neil Schwartz went on to say his client was hurt and frustrated. “He was extremely disappointed. He was very deliberate with his family weighing everything in his decision,” Schwartz said.

That’s nice, but it’s hard to get too worked up about the move, even if you are a Jets fan. It would have been a stunner if a holdout didn’t happen. It will be even more surprising if the two sides can’t reach a deal after a few more weeks of rhetoric.
