Per FOX 9, the Vikings have not tied the purchase of tickets to any regular-season game to the purchase of tickets to the preseason home opener to be played that night, against the Seahawks. The move suggests that there will be a natural demand for tickets, making the creation of an artificial demand unnecessary.
And that natural demand would come from the presence of Favre on the field.
Paul Allen of KFAN, the radio play-by-play voice of the Vikings, has told yours truly on multiple occasions that the third preseason game against Seattle is the target for a Favre debut. We think there’s an outside chance Favre shows up for the August 22 game at San Francisco, since it will be played on national television — resulting in maximum attention for Favre.
Then again, Favre may not wish to make the trek to the West Coast for a cameo appearance, even if it’s an NBC game. Also, given the team’s apparent Sunday Night Football curse (they were routed by the Cardinals and the Panthers last year), Favre could be looking to stay away from whatever bad mojo the Minnesota team has encountered when playing evening football on the peacock network.
