Signs point to Favre return for August 28 preseason game

NFL_favre1.jpgAs the Vikings wait (supposedly) for Brett Favre to show up, the folks at FOX 9 have discovered a clue that points to a possible preseason debut on August 28.

Per FOX 9, the Vikings have not tied the purchase of tickets to any regular-season game to the purchase of tickets to the preseason home opener to be played that night, against the Seahawks.  The move suggests that there will be a natural demand for tickets, making the creation of an artificial demand unnecessary.

And that natural demand would come from the presence of Favre on the field.

Paul Allen of KFAN, the radio play-by-play voice of the Vikings, has told yours truly on multiple occasions that the third preseason game against Seattle is the target for a Favre debut.  We think there’s an outside chance Favre shows up for the August 22 game at San Francisco, since it will be played on national television — resulting in maximum attention for Favre.

Then again, Favre may not wish to make the trek to the West Coast for a cameo appearance, even if it’s an NBC game.  Also, given the team’s apparent Sunday Night Football curse (they were routed by the Cardinals and the Panthers last year), Favre could be looking to stay away from whatever bad mojo the Minnesota team has encountered when playing evening football on the peacock network.

The drame queen will be at camp Aug 16. He won’t play till the 3rd preseason game and then only for 2 series.

  2. Jeremy says: Aug 1, 2010 6:12 PM

But Favre and Chilly keep saying they “have no idea” if Favre is coming back. This suggests they do have some idea.
    I’m confused.

This just shows you how much these idiots troll on the Vikings page. This article isn’t even up on the main page, yet we have comments from these douchebags with nothing better to do. Time to move out of the parents basement and go work at the meat packing plant like everybody else in Green Bay.

  4. BrentFavre says: Aug 1, 2010 6:40 PM

Ah, the Vikings. Where they need to turn regular season tricks in order to get people at games.

  5. ICEWALKER says: Aug 1, 2010 6:45 PM

YIPPY! Mr. Deanna Favre is coming back!

  6. sand0 says: Aug 1, 2010 6:55 PM

This is dumb. The third preseason game is the only contest in which starters have significant play time. It always has the highest demand. This article takes an obvious situation and reads way too deeply into it.
The Vikings held a training camp practice today, suggesting that football related activities would take place in the confines of their perimeter.

Isn’t September 9th also “evening football” on the peacock network?
Might be bad news for the Viqueen whiner-fans who are so desperate for “revenge”.

As Farve-Apolozza warms up for it’s 2010 tour, we are once again reminded that he is the biggest douchebag in the history of the NFL.But, can you blame him, you have an entire state, organization, head coach, fans and teammates on their knees, kissing his ass. EJ Henderson busts his ass to rehab from a horrible injury, Pat Williams (who is almost as old as favre) is in camp, during two a day, bustin some rookies ass, and you have Favre, down in Miss. playing catch with high schoolers. You would have to be a complete jackass to think he isn’t coming back, and a complete idiot to think he isn’t nothing but a douchebag.

  9. prmpft says: Aug 1, 2010 7:31 PM

…i’ll say this – if everyone thinks that throwin’ to hs students & hangin’ out to do whatever before the preseason – then sneakin in some reps before he comes to N.O. is gonna help them win their first game – rotsa ruck w/that – i’m all the way on board with that plan!!! – GEAUX SAINTS!!!

Everyone in the Vikings organization knows he’s coming back. They’re just keeping quiet about it. Where Favre’s really hurting the Vikings is by believing that he’s bigger than the team. He’s not there to provide leadership nor to help his young receivers get their timing down.
Favre is the very definition of a prima donna.

EXACTLY!!! Those (great???) fans can’t even turn out for preseason games. They have to tie those w/the regular season games in order to sell more tickets. How pathetic is that!!!
The best fair weather fans in the NFL. No matter what they say, we all know what kind of fans the Queens have……Amen

  25. JimmySmith says: Aug 1, 2010 9:12 PM

Favre is just waiting for the Viking fans to beg a little louder, Chilly to bend over a little further, and Jared Allen to pucker up a little more.
Then, and coincidentally after two a days end, Favre will phone Chilly for a ride from the airport.

Has anyone even taken a wild guess that Favre may actually like screwing with everyone? I can picture him sitting in his bass boat with his buddies thinking of ways to mess with everyone. “Hey, I have a good one, let’s start a rumor that I just bought a place in LA and I’m moving so I can take John Maddens place on MNF! HA! HA!

Can anyone get this through his, or , her skull? He’s gonna be 40 fricken 1and don’t want to come back unless he is truely healthy. He’s played almost 300 games in a row without missing a start. He never missed a day of school because that meant he couldn’t play after school. I think he deserves that. Being 55 I don’t know how I’m gonna feel from one day to the next, and I still remember how sore I was after a pick-up game when I was 26. So freakin’ what? Have Gun Will Travel

I think Favre should spend the minimum amount of effort to be 100%.
If I were his teammate I would want him to play minimum minutes this year to get to the Superbowl.
You anti- Favorites want to see him wear down because the girls on you team cannot hold up at 30.

He’s already done that…like twice. What makes you think he’d stay retired.
Vegas odss and NFL Power Rankings are out….Packers are above the Vikings in every category on everything I’ve seen.
Keep your fingers and ponytails crossed girls….gonna be a long year.

  42. RC IV says: Aug 2, 2010 10:51 AM

    Canned Meat:
Yeah, leave it to a packer fan turd to point to that as a reason for the packers being better.
You do realize that Vegas puts out odds on games and things like this to induce betting, right?
When team A is favored by 7 points on team B, it doesn’t mean whoever sets the line think one team is 7 points better…..
While setting odds for teams chances, they are going to place the odds on them they feel will make Vegas the most money.
Power rankings? Uff. Keep putting your faith in meaningless drivel from sportswriters. It will be all that more crushing for you when the Packers fall on thier face.
Where is all this superiority over your team coming from? 2-5 against winning teams last year and an absolute embarassment in the WC game. You’d think you’d be a bit more humble.
But then, you are idiot packer fans, it wouldn’t be you guys if you didn’t make complete asses out of yourselves.

  43. Canned Heat says: Aug 2, 2010 12:31 PM

    Yeah…you stinking delusional fools.
If anyone’s making an ass out of themselves, it’s you douchebags thinking you’ll see any resemblance of last year’s season. Much tougher schedule, improved NFCN, and a QB that just came off a mind-blowingly incredible season for his age. I’m sure you’ll be right back in the title game again….because things always repeat themselves in the NFL right…?
The WR situation is somewhat up in the air with injuries…and defenses won’t be surprised anymore by them, AP is still a fumbling liability, the DB situation is at or worse than last year, and Diva-king shot the wad last year and won’t be anywhere near his last year’s stats.

  44. Gravy Makes Sconnies Fat says: Aug 2, 2010 1:07 PM

canned heat, the packers have virtually no chance anymore of beating the vikings. in case you forgot, you haven’t been able to win the division or a playoff game since favre left and that’s not gonna change, you lost 2 defensive starters from your defense that gave up over 50 pts. in your last game, you’re gonna be forced to start a rookie safety and you got nothing (again) in free agency from the gay albino.
the vikes on the other hand returned all their starters which include 8 pro bowlers and 4 all pros. the packers just aren’t good enough to compete with the vikes anymore. you should switch to being a brewers fan.

  45. Gravy Makes Sconnies Fat says: Aug 2, 2010 1:15 PM

seriously, our qb had the 2nd highest rating in the league last year and finished in the top 3 in mvp voting for the 2nd time in the last 3 years.
rice is a pro bowl wr and he made it clear he’ll be fine by the opener, harvin was rookie of the year and will be even better, we have an all pro running back who will be backed up by the heisman trophy winner this year.
the vikes were the 2nd highest scoring offense in the league last year and our defense held the cowboys to 3 points while the packers held the cards to 51 points. then there’s your o-line and your special teams, your lack of pass rush keystone cops d backs…
i swear i’m trying to look for a bright side for the packers…
hey the passing game should be all right!

    Are you and Ambrose related?
You peeking into the same crystal ball?
Vikings aren’t the team with a losing record against winning teams last year.
How did the Packers improve? the draft? Funny.
Why is that the packers are just going to continue to get better and the Vikings are going to magically get worse? Thas wishing and hoping on your part.
You have no clue. Outside of Rice, who is hurt? Harvin? light ankle sprain. Rice is ready to go.
Why, i guess your another turd that wants them at less than full strength.
The WRs were only good last year because they suprised everyone? Give me a break you ignorant homer!
All of your post is conjecture.
Burnett is going to be a pro bowler as a rookie, but Cook will suck for the Vikes, right?
Jesus you packer fans are a waste of good peoples air.

moron, do you even understand who sets the vegas odds? all vegas does is try to keep the money as even as possible on both sides, it’s idiot homers who place bets with no football knowledge that wind up setting the odds.
as far as power ranking, the only one i look at, espn, has come out with their first rankings of the year and naturally the vikes are in the top 3. the packers are not even in the top 5.
