We can recall witnessing many bizarre developments in slightly more than a decade of closely following the NFL on a comprehensive basis. But Sunday night’s news coming out of Jacksonville falls among the most bizarre developments we’ve ever witnessed.
To summarize, the Jaguars claim that defensive tackle Tyson Alualu has agreed to terms.
Alualu’s agent claims that he hasn’t.
Reports emerged that the team had announced the existence of a deal. We then were told that Alualu had not yet accepted the pending offer (Vito Stellino of the Florida Times-Union reported the same thing, and in fairness his report preceded ours).
Now, Adam Schefter of ESPN has supplied an on-the-record source, quoting agent Kenny Zuckerman.
“He said he will let me know his intentions soon,” Zuckerman told Schefter regarding Alualu, explaining that the 10th overall pick has pulled a Meatloaf.
Meanwhile, Jason La Canfora of NFL Network insists that the Jaguars have declared that Alualu has agreed to terms, and that the Jags have met the player’s financial parameters on a five-year, $28 million deal with $17.5 million guaranteed.
“The Jaguars have announced that Alualu has agreed to terms,” La Canfora writes via Twitter, “and team sources said that announcement was in fact correct and not a mistake or released prematurely.”
So, basically, someone is lying and/or flat-out wrong. And even if the Jags’ latest offer truly has met Alualu’s asking price, it’s hard not to wonder whether the team’s public effort to force his hand will prompt him to slam on the brakes — or possibly to seek a McNabb-style financial apology.
Poor agent got Zucker punched.
Tyson Bear is going to sleep on 28 million dollars to see if it is too hard or just right.
How does one sleep when they are about to become a multi-millionaire.
Tyson Alualu, soon to be preceded by the phrase ’2010 NFL draft bust’.
I think we can fully understand why the confusion as Tyson was expecting 2nd round money and the Jags went and screwed up his life by taking at him #10 overall.
He’ll lose the average annual wage for a person in the service industry, in interest, while he sleeps.
I wouldn’t sleep on it…
The Jags may realize they made a huge mistake by drafting an over-rated DE/DT hybrid who will get manhandled in the NFL.
He’ll be sleeping on the red eye to Jax then signing that contract once he gets into the Duval.
He’s probably having nightmares that he’ll spend the next 6 years playing in obscurity for a franchise nobody cares about. Then again, he could be dreaming that in 3 years he’ll be playing in California again.
He should take the deal and shut up. He should be glad there was a team dumb enough to draft him in the 1st rd(projected mid 2nd-to early 3rd)yet alone in the top 10. He now wants top 10 money when we all know(except the jaguars) that he aint even top 20 on the draft.
How does one sleep when they are about to become a multi-millionaire….
Large dosage of valium.
oh, and the Texans will win both games against the jagz. Time to make up for last year.
Seeing as how he has to fly to Jacksonville and start playing football, he’d better be asleep.

“How does one sleep when they are about to become a multi-millionaire?”
On a really nice bed, surrounded by hotties.
He should be thrilled a team reached for him. As DHB proved last year it only takes one team to take you from a late 1st to instant mega-bucks (not that the late first rounders don’t cash it in too).
Alualu’s agent has accepted, and he is recommending to his client that he accept. What’s so bizarre about that?
All night LUAU!! Congrats ALUALU and welcome aboard!!
Hey Florio, obviously, Tyson Alualu talked or texted JDR and let him know he would accept the offer. JDR just let the cat out of the bag a little early. No story here, just another way to bias ANY news against Jacksonville as the MOST BIZARRE in TEN YEARS….Cue the twilight zone music..Sheesh Florio, give it a rest!
This guy should accept just about any sensible deal for his draft slot.Nobody…not even Tyson Alualu thought he’d be drafted that high and get paid like he is.
when does money not mean anything anymore? For the good of the team, he needs to be in camp

According to who? So I guess if the Jaguars had taken Jimmy Clausen, it would not have been a reach because Mel Kiper said so?
That is about 17 million guaranteed too much for this guy. Should have been a mid 2nd round pick. Just another reason why the LA oops I meant Jacksonville Jaguars are a joke and why GM Gene Smith is an idiot. It is going to be funny when they cut Alualu, fire Smith, and move to LA all within one year.
He was supposed to be drafted in the second round. He should have signed the first deal offered and thanked the GM for being stupid.
Mark it down. Alualu will be better than Suh and McCoy. Keep runnin that mouth haters. We aint moving, and we are a much better team than you think. I love that you hate us.

He was supposed to be drafted in the second round.”
What does that even mean? He was supposed to be drafted in the second round. Why? Because Mel Kiper and Todd McShay said so? So many fans get obsessed with these draft rankings put out their by the Kipers and McShays of the world and think a team reached or got a steal based on their rankings. If Kiper was a GM of an NFL team, he probably would have made Jimmy Clausen a top 10 pick. And yet in the actual draft, he lasts until halfway through the second round. Check what these experts thought of Tony Pike and Dan Lefevour and look where they got drafted.

Buddy, if you think this deal is to big, Bradford signed for 50 mill garunteed.
Maybe he should have been a 2nd rd pick maybe not. Are you going to let Kiper and Mcgay oops i meant Mcshay tell you what to do?
Alualu will be on the team for at least 3 years but most likely more depending how he does.
Mr. Smith is in his 2nd year. His first year involved drafting a mostly starting draft class. He won’t be fired anytime soon.
AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, TICKET ISSUES DON’T LEAD TO A TEAM LEAVING. STADIUM ISSUES DO AND WE DON’T HAVE STADIUM ISSUES. SO LONG THAT WAYNE WEAVER OWNS THE TEAM WE WILL NOT MOVE. I hope that everyone can stop this hating now.
Alualu has stated that the business side of this is “out of his hands”. (even though I thought the agent worked for the player, not the other way around)…If the player states his agent will handle it & the agent advises the player to accept the deal, isn’t it a done deal?
FootballFan,
If you legitimate think that’s a realistic timetable, you’re an idiot. But, oh, I forgot. It’s way too much to ask people to form their own opinions about things they talk about.
Why not wait until you see Alualu on the field before you spew off the same nonsense that came out of Mel Kiper Jr.’s mouth on draft day?
The last rookie draft class (drafted by “that idiot” Gene) made significant contributions to the team last season. Derek Cox, Mike Thomas, Eugene Monroe, and Eben Britton all played consistently. And what would have been Peyton Manning’s first touchdown pass of the season was intercepted by Derek Cox. But, sorry. They all suck because Gene’s an idiot.
As for moving to L.A., it’s a really tired issue. They secured a stadium sponsor last week. No, it doesn’t guarantee the team’s security in Jacksonville, but it’s a step forward. There are about 5,000 season tickets to be sold. It’s manageable. All it takes is a little research to see that ticket sales are at an all-time high in Jacksonville.
Next time, do us all a favor and think for yourself or don’t say anything at all.
And with the 4th pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Haplessville Jaguars select….
