Brad Childress still hoping Cedric Griffin will play in opener

Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier says cornerback Cedric Griffin won’t play in the regular-season opener. But head coach Brad Childress isn’t so sure.

Asked if Griffin will miss the September 9 game at New Orleans, Childress said he thinks it’s too soon to say.

I don’t know that,” Childress said, per the Star Tribune. “I’m not going to put anything past him. We’re just continuing to accelerate him here and we’ll see. But him and E.J. [Henderson], as I’ve said before, their work kind of defies description so nothing would surprise me.”

Griffin suffered a torn ACL in the NFC Championship Game and is currently on the physically unable to perform list. Griffin himself says it’s up to the Vikings, but he doesn’t see why he can’t play.

“I’m not really sure what is going, on so I’m just going to [go] through my drills and workout like I have been and continue to improve,” Griffin said. “I’ll let them tell you all my timetable and I’ll just go out there and work hard and do the best I can.”
