Ravens solve quarterback logjam by trading Beck

Ravens teammates will be happy to know Troy Smith will stick in Baltimore.

The popular third-string quarterback essentially won a position battle with John Beck on Monday when the Ravens decided to deal Beck to the Redskins, as first reported by Dick Harmon of the Deseret News.

The Ravens have since confirmed that Beck was dumped for cornerback Doug Dutch.

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan recently said Rex Grossman was in a battle to be the team’s backup quarterback, and this trade indicates they may not love what they’ve seen from Sexy Rexy to this point.

Beck couldn’t make good with a second chance under Cam Cameron, which doesn’t speak well for the rest of his career.

  1. trade? more like a walk across the parking lot.
or jumping from the frying pan into the fire.

  2. Thats right steeler fans….be wary….we now have Doug Dutch roaming in our secondary……..who in the hell is doug dutch!?!?!?!?
Why did we trade Beck instead of Troy Smith??? Probably because not even the skins wanted smith!! I say we cut Smith and carry 2 QB’s…

  3. Cool. Now the Ravens are down to three QBs who can’t play. That team is so screwed….just like the Deadskins.

  4. Fans of 31 teams had their fingers crossed when they clicked on this story hoping it wasn’t their team that traded for Beck.

  5. I was wondering why Beck was the only one still on the field throwing pass after pass after practice ended. Must have had a Redskins scout makings sure Beck was in good condition.

  6. But at least the QB’s will be playing unlike Rapistburger who will be riding the bench for RAPING A GIRL

  7. Rosenthal…
“Sexy Rexy” is reserved for Rex Ryan. Grossman has done nothing to earn a nickname. Well, except for Sabotage the Bears chances at winning a Super Bowl when they had the best return man in the game, and a very good defense.

  8. Funny how guys like Katmanduu and Burning River are always among the first posters on a Ravens related story. Could it be that you’re scarrrrrrred?
I would be…the Ravens have upgraded their passing game, their running game, their backup QB position, their TE position, their front 7 pass rush, Suggs & Gaither have dropped weight are back in prime shape…
Every team has weaknesses. The Ravens have only two: their secondary and their lack of depth on their O-line. If they can get by then the rest is cream cheese.

2 Words, Joe Flacco. 2 more words, Suck It.

  10. doug dutch was so far down on lloyd carr’s WR depth chart at u of michigan, he converted to CB his senior year(didn’t get on the field at corner either, however). i wouldnt expect either player to make either roster, but you never know – maybe the light goes on for dutch while traveling up the beltway, and maybe john beck magically fixes his footwork on his way to redskins park…

  11. Let’s just hope that Beck passes Shanny’s conditioning test since he wasn’t there for the Skins offseason program.

  12. Never heard of this Doug Dutch guy, but the Ratbirds need help in the secondary, and if he can’t hack it there, you always need guys for punts and kick offs.
I’ve always wondered how teams get by with only 53 guys on a roster.

Well, at least he won’t have to move very far…

I’m glad you know the locations of both Baltimore and D.C., you moron.

  14. @katmandu – lets see…. your primary QB is a rapist and your back up is a water buffalo. Meanwhile our starting qb has 3 playoff wins in 2 years and our backup was an all-pro on more than one occasion. you have the mentality of a used condom.

  15. Get rid of Brennon and pick up Beck? Is this a f ing joke? What a stupid move get rid of Grossman he is garbage

    Yeah, that’s the ticket….chirp….chirp….

  17. Cam’s #1 pick Ginn Jr. traded for a 5th and his #2 pick traded for a 6th. Great job their idiot. Matt Millen thinks you are ridiculous. Its amazing how someone so good at offensive scheming can be so bad at judging talent.

seems that Cam Camoron don’t think too highly of his #2 draft pick from years back!!!

We drafted him in the 5th round and it was actually considered a steal. Any more moronic comments for the day?

  19. Good thing the Ravens shored up the DB injury issues with a guy like Doug Dutch….wait, who in the hell is that?
Can’t wait to see Palmer, T.Ochocinco, Bryant, Caldwell and Shipley tear that Balti “Defense” apart this season.

  20. This is a surprise to me. I thought Colt had some potential, but obviously the Shanahans didn’t.

John Beck was selected in the 2nd round of the 2007 NFL Draft. Making it Cam Camerons 2nd selection as te coach of the Miami Dolphins. Troy Smith is who you are thinking of, who is still on your team. It’s called Sarcasm moron.

hey headrush, Beck was picked in the second round, 40th pick overall

  23. Well the Skins #1 and #2 QBs have extensive injury histories so if I were they I would definitely carry 3 Qbs.
