Derrick Mason injured at Ravens' practice

Baltimore Ravens No. 1 receiver Derrick Mason had to be helped off the practice field this morning after suffering a leg injury when he was hit by safety Dawan Landry.

Jamison Hensley of the Baltimore Sun reports that Mason couldn’t put any weight on his right leg, although Mason himself apparently wasn’t too concerned.

I just twisted it,” Mason said on his way into the locker room.

The 36-year-old Mason has missed just six games in his NFL career, and none in the last seven seasons.

John Harbaugh’s new idea of implementing giant saw blades that move sideline to sideline (a la Megaman games) to simulate opponents has ironically backfired.

i love the ravens, but will someone please tell landry to chill out during practice?? first you knock out mcgahee’s teeth, now you’re busting the leg of a very important WR..
I know your pissed off that the D is banged up, old, and losing people left and right…but damn don’t take it out on the offense who is going to need to score 30+ a game this year…

Boldin is now the Ravens’ #1 receiver, not Mason.

  9. headrush4you says: Aug 3, 2010 11:57 AM

Derrick Mason is Baltimore’s #2 receiver, the depth chart will be as follows:
    1) Anquan Boldin
    2) Derrick Mason
    3) Donte Stallworth
    4) Mark Clayton/Demetrius Williams

Mason is such a solid football player…all the way around. He’s tough, reliable, and always seems to be in the right position to make the play. I hate seeing him torch the Pats time and time and time again…but he’s fun to watch.

  20. OchoUno81 says: Aug 3, 2010 12:56 PM

Boldin won’t play 8 games. Despite many attempts the Ravens….and the NFL in general…can’t seem to get rid of Mason. He’s just a solid pro. As a Bengals fan, I’m glad he’s gone. Now we only have to defend Rice and Boldin (when he’s healthy enuff to play).

  21. Ray Ray is soft says: Aug 3, 2010 12:56 PM

I’m having a really bad so I’m going say Mason is a crybaby and a flopper(Vlade Divac)style.I loved him when he was up in Tennessee. But since he came to BALTIMORE. He turned Prima-Donna. I can care less how he feels.

  22. 7370355q$ says: Aug 3, 2010 1:10 PM

    @OchoUno81
Mase will be back in a couple of days you’ll still have to defend him, rice, boldin, stallworth (who has looked exceptional in camp), heap, and our two young and very athletic tight ends, sorry.

We beat you twice with Mase last year Im n ot worried….Your defense will have to deal with Ocho, TO, Bryant, Gresham(Best TE in the draft), Coffman(Most Prolific Pass catching TE in NCAA History-247 catches with Missouri) Cedric Benson(remember that run where he trucked your LB and outran your secondary???)Bernard Scott(96 yr kickoff against Pitt and 121 rushing on the Raiders is a SICK back up RB) Caldwell(remember him??) and baby Welker AKA Jordan Shipley……We can do this all day and we get to see week 2. Should be fun
SO BRING IT! if you think we will have the same barley can score offense to go with our #4 defense then you sir have just been educated….

  25. kickinitoleschool says: Aug 3, 2010 1:38 PM

lmao score 30 points a game to win might be more than that hopefully the d-line can get some sacks to take pressure off the 2ndary…
@heinekenfun…lmao 56 years old…ya it seems like he has been in the league that long
But they will be ok…their offense is still looking good and still has high expectations…mason being out hopefully means more touches for rice which we know he can make plays….I have enough faith in the front 7 in the box to help the 2ndary out and not make them look so vulnerable…although w/out reed everyone is going to pick on the ravens D

    @Ray Ray is soft :
You are right, Mason is a prima-donna. Especially when he played 6 games with a dislocated shoulder, or maybe all these years he has been a #1 wide out playing next to 3rd string recievers and guys who honestly should not have the privilidge to step on the field on sunday. I am trying to think of some other times that would prove your statement…… maybe when he was getting stretched out by Boller each week and taking massive hits just to try and help the team out….. never said an ill word about Boller. But i guess what you are refering to is the horrible off season show he put on about possibly retireing
( which he has every right to do ) to be with his family after one of his best friends was murdered which made him think twice about where he needs to be. He decided ( along with his family ) to come back for 1 – 2 years to get a ring.
You are right, he has to be the biggest cry baby out there. I would much rather them have gotten rid of him and picked up T.O, traded for Chad Johnson, Maybe got Roy Williams from Dallas….. hmmm yea we would have been much better off!!!!
Please do us a favor as “think” before you speak. Better yet try not to speak on something you have NO idea about and a team you do not follow…. yea that would be best ;)

  30. 7370355q$ says: Aug 3, 2010 2:13 PM

Yeah you beat us with mason, you also beat us without boldin, stallworth, our two young tight ends who both were in the top 3 of 4o times at the combine, a healthy heap, and late in the season without a healthy joe. And in regards to your team, will bryant be healthy, will benson be the same last year or was he just a one year wonder, and can benson sustain a 16 game season unlike last year, shipley isn’t baby welker that belongs to julian eddleman, best tight end in the draft doesn’t mean anything if their production can’t translate to the nfl (marcedes lewis was a highly touted tight end coming out of college, he is doing real well-sarcasm), and will T.O. be able to stretch the field, at his age no and he said he will not go over the middle, and the window of opportunity for the bengals is closing, you have a 30 year old qb who is losing arm strength season by season, and you know mike brown will only fork over enough money to sign only hall or joseph by seasons end not both. I know your rebuttle will be, but how can you say our window is closing when you have a 35 year old mlb and a 31 year old safety, our window of opportunity is very large because ask anybody and they’ll tell you the most important position on the team is quarterback, and the ravens have a young one and good one at that. Ray Lewis is a different breed of football player who lasts forever seemingly and reed should be so much healthier following his rehab. What did you say, “bring it”? how old are you?

Everyone is missing the point here.
If a Raven’s DB actually tackled Mason in practice, what does that say about Mason’s ability?
There isn’t a healthy, bona-fide NFL caliber DB left on that team.

  40. Ravenator says: Aug 3, 2010 6:39 PM

    Secondary concerns…..check!
    Defensive injuries…..check!
    Aging MLB & FS…..check!
    ………anything else????
    Ok now….
    Revamped receiver-unit…..check!
One of the youngest and most talented o-lines…..check!
Talented 3rd yr head coach w/ two playoff appearances already…..check!
Matured & healthy 3rd yr QB w/ 3 playoff wins…..check! (Watch for the nasty pump fake Flacco has been working on this offseason)
D-line that will swallow all halfbacks w/ added depth…..check!
    Ray Rice – McGahee – McClain…..check!
One of the best GM(s) in the league…..check!
Ravens had the same secondary concerns last year yet we managed to finish as the 8th ranked pass D (i’ll take that).
Ray-ray and Ed Reed are studs! Fact is, these players are future canton candidates and yet people still want to criticize and doubt their ability???!!! I just ask you this…..wouldn’t you like to have Ray Lewis or Ed Reed or both on your team???….and any nay-sayers are just reluctant to admit the truth because they hold allegiance to their own organizations.
Lastly, yes, the injury-bug has hit the Ravens. Personally, I think all of this is being blown out of proportion. Ravens have a weakness at CB however, someone will step up and the increased pass rush should alleviate pressure on the CBs. In addition, injuries happen but if the Ravens can get all the injuries out of the way now and manage to stay healthy the rest of the year, I’m confident we’ll be in Dallas this year…
Crabcakes & Football….THAT’S WHAT MARYLAND DOES!!!!!!

All I have to say is this….If Ray Rice goes down, there’s gonna be a lllllllllllllllllllllllllot of folks lookin at the Orioles off-season activities. Oh, and ya best ta shore up ya secondary because, uh Cincy MIGHT give you MORE trouble this year. Respect your team and Ray-Ray especially (especially after what they did to my Giants in 2000) but you’re walking a thin line with these vets and no youngsters distinguishing themselves.
