Goodell's visit to Philly will include a meeting with Mike Vick

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has been touring various training camps, meeting with fans and coaches and players.

In Philly today, Goodell will have a sit-down with quarterback Mike Vick, according to ESPN (via Sean Leahy of USA Today).

Goodell, who will take no action against Vick as a result of his birthday party gone bad, reportedly plans to provide “additional support” to Vick in order to help him comply with the terms of his reinstatement.

  1. So the Commish of the NFL has been reduced to being a social worker.
If just a couple thugs like Vick were run out of football, that would go a long way toward “helping other thugs comply ” with the rules entailed with the privelege of playing pro football – and living at large in society.

  2. Give me a break!
Vick obviously is not the sharpest tool in the shed but he’s a grown man for christ’s sakes! Goodell is going to have a baby sitter for this Over Rated QB now?
Screw that! I say let the guy hang himself from stupidity & get him out of the League once & for all.

  3. Hey Rog, stop with the dog and pony show. We all know that neither you nor Eagles owner Jeff Lurie are men of your word. If either of you were, Vick wouldn’t be at camp to talk to!

  4. “Yo, Commish. Wanna see me hit that guy 10 rows from the top?”
    (throws ball, hits spectator)
“Impressive Michael. How’d you do that?”
“I aimed for one of my wide-outs. Happens every time.”

  5. You know what’s funny? USA today didn’t get the city right, either. But you guys didn’t even publish THAT city.
    Bethlehem != Lehigh != Philly

  6. None of you understand how effective Mike Vick is gonna be, nor to you understantd how intregal a part of the offense he will be week in and week out. He WAS overrated. Now he’s got the best coaching possible for a QB, no pressure to be a starter, and all the motivation in the world to make plays with the 5-12 snaps-per-game he gets. Keep hatin’ on his decisions in former life, because they were ridiculously stupid. But if you’re hating on his ability, check yourself. Ask andy reid about it; he knows things about football.

I honestly don’t even care much if it’s a warning to other turds. Even if it isn’t a preventative measure for others, it gets THOSE turds gone for what THEY did.

  8. Goodell will insist that Vick invite HIM to any social gatherings from now on, so he can watch over Mike and make sure that he doesn’t get into trouble.

    Also to get sloppy seconds.

  10. Did Vick ask if he had permission to play for another team, oh I dunno, somewhere up north, eh?

  11. Cut the cancer (vick) OUT of the NFL. He is clearly nothing but GARBAGE. And he has ALWAYS been a mediocre (at his best) football player. Vick will wind up in one of two places eventually: hell or prison.

  12. Maybe Goodel can give Vick a ride to Minnesota on his airplane after the Vikes send the Eagles a 5th rounder to replace Favre.

  13. how many resources is the NFL going to devote to Vick? What has this guy done to deserve all the help the NFL is trying to give him?

  14. Roger better not plan on messing with any of that yellow cake son. that how snitches get stitches.

  15. Goodell and Lurie have lost all credibility regarding their “zero tolerance” proclamation when Vick was reinstated/signed. The below says it all.
    From a Philly.com reporter on 7/27/10:
No one thinks Vick pulled the trigger – not the Virginia Beach police or the prosecutor, not the NFL or the Eagles. But it’s clear Vick made a dreadful decision in Virginia Beach. He acknowledged that on Monday and told reporters he’s “on thin ice.” Wasn’t he on thin ice before? Considering how things heated up after his 30th birthday celebration, that ice surely must have melted by now.
Vick said he doesn’t know who allegedly shot Quanis Phillips – a former member of his dogfighting cabal – but revealed he learned of the attack “15 or 20 minutes” after it happened. News travels fast. When asked who told him about the shooting, Vick said: “It doesn’t matter.” It does matter, of course, if that person is a witness. I asked Vick if the person who told him Phillips had been shot saw the crime go down. Either Vick didn’t hear me or he didn’t want to address it because he didn’t answer.
So, bottom line: Vick knows who the shooter was (and likely a member of his extended “posse”), but isn’t cooperating. Is this what Goodell and Lurie had in mind for expected behavior of a member of the NFL and the Eagles ? Disgraceful.

  16. I love how people hate on a player who was by far one of the most exciting players in the NFL.
How was Atlanta doin when he started? playoff contender battled deep into the NFC playoffs..
No team could handle his speed.
& what happened to Atlanta after he left??? turmoil.
he may not be a prototypical QB but you can say the guy sucked or was a chump. There are about 8-12 teams that still dont have a starter as good as Vick let alone a back up.
Keep running your mouths. U know nothing of football and your wives are cheating on you as we speak

  17. @ICDogg:
I’m quite aware that Lehigh University is in Bethlehem. The article linked referenced “Lehigh, PA”, which doesn’t exist. Lehigh Valley does, but that’s not really a city either.

  18. Did anyone see Vick on Pro’s vs. Joes??? He was godawful. He got sacked by 185 pound white guy, fumbled another pass. Dude cant even beat scrubs now.

  19. Damn…. I still can’t believe nothing is coming of this POS breaking the damn law!!?? Let a white dude get accused of something and suddenly he is suspended, let the black dude break the law and he is let free. C’mon Roger quit being a wuss and suspend these guys. Accused = 4-6 games, guilty = 0 games errrr White = 4-6 games Black = 0 Games, hmm……

  20. After Goodell visits Vick in Philly, or whereever, he should swing by Pittsburgh and check to see if Ben has raped anybody college girls since they last spoke.

    =========================
Then why didn’t any of those 8-12 teams (and please, name them if you can) want any part of Vick when they could have had him for a late round pick before the draft?
I love how Eagles fans defend Vick when he did everything he could to get out of Philly in the offseason, including going on the radio in Charlotte and saying how much he would love to play for the Panthers.
Guy hasn’t played on a regular basis in 4 years. In 2006, his last full season, he finished 20th out of 32. Here are some of the hall of fame QB’s who had better years statistically:
    Damon Huard
    J.P. Losman
    Marc Bulger
    Jon Kitna
    David Carr
Didn’t you see him get run down from behind, chased out of bounds before he could turn the corner, and get tackled by the first guy that hit him last year? I have news for you dude, people don’t get faster when they get older.
If he gets on the field for anything other than the wildcat this year, the Eagles season is lost.

  22. @shofner85:
Well stated. The Eagles have covered themselves in disgrace for the way they have handled this situation.
Vick certainly knows who the shooter was, and though it isn’t a violation of the law to not talk to the police, it is certainly not reflective of someone who is so desperately trying to prove how much he has grown up and turned his life around.
