Will a real sports writer step up and write about this circus act and explain how its really playing out? The guy obviously has decided that he will play again. While his teammates gather at training camp to work on preparing for the season, Favre is throwing passes to a group of high school kids in his wranglers. If any other player tried this, they would be fined or reported as unexcused from camp. The Viking front office is pathetic! A so-called text message that he will retire results in a 16 million offer! Don’t worry Viking fans, your front office didn’t panic! There’s always that Jackson kid!

As a Saints fan, I think many of you (including the writer) are overly harsh on Favre. He was literally one play from the Super Bowl. I know folks don’t like his antics each off season but he is one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history. I think he’ll be back but don’t know if he will match his performance in 2009.

Douche, I didn’t know Jolly and Underwood were being considered for the Hall of Fame. I can’t wait for Favre to go into Canton with the likes of Lawrence Taylor, Michael Irvin and O.J. You see Canton has no rule eliminating players who are less than stellar citizens off the field. But hey integrity and professionalism abounds there. Hell, Minnesota sends its perverted men to our malls to pose as cops and molest our children.
You go on living in that dream world where the Vikings actually have some class. The same one you, Contra, RC IV, Gravy and Perv can shop together for women’s clothes without fear.
Oh, and I do believe Favre is coming back. He’s setting the stage to ride in on a white horse and save the team that has no chance without him. Maybe he’ll wait till you’re 2-4.
Without Favre, the Bears and Packers contend for the division title.

C’mon you guys, this is FUN. What else have we got to talk about for the Vikings, their roster is set coming into camp so there is not much to write about. This will give Tavaris and Sage more time with the first team and will give them valuable exibition experience to step in if he goes down. I don’t care if he skips training camp, he knows the offence inside and out. In any event, look for Childress to visit him a couple more times, just to make it look good.

I like Rex Ryan’s take, “If it’s still true in week 5, I’ll be happy as heck.” And if it’s true when the Vikes play the Bears, I, too, will be happy as heck. But my gut says Brett will be back. After training camp.
Personally, I just dislike the dishonesty of the whole thing. He’s not fooling anyone. The Saints aren’t going to let their guard down and not prepare for Brett because of this announcement.
Just give the guy some kind of contractual exception that says “Brett does not have to do training camp.” There. Done. Not so hard.

I agree Florio. This is just another attempt for media attention which again has been extremely successful. Training camps have opened across the league and other NFL players have had the attention on them, but not today. He will play again, he just needs more adoration, butt kissing, and maybe more money, but he will be back.

I find it amazing that NBC would allow your headline of “Expect Favre to end up playing after all” on the front page of a high-profile website. You are putting your credibility on the line with this one, and if you are wrong, expect web viewership to decrease exponentially.

This guy will do anything for attention. Florio’s assessment is dead-on; Lord Favre needs to create an “out” if/when he stinks it up, and he’s such a primadonna that he needs to make it look like he’s the hero that fights through everything to get on the field and compete. He’ll “come out of retirement” again, and the odds that he’ll announce it during a one hour special on ESPN are pretty damn good.

I can’t take any more Brett Farve will play or will not play stories, they’ve worn out thier welcome from the previous 3 years, I just don’t care.
At one time, I liked the Vikings, and I liked Farve when he was with the Packers and Jets, but I can’t stand the Vikings or Brett Farve now. Mr. Farve thank you for many great years and exciting games, but please retire and stay retired.
And Vikings fans, you were so freak’n cocky last season, this serves you right. May you be humbled by many years of suffering like the Detroit Lions fans have suffered, though I’m not sure what they did to deserve it, maybe it was Barry Sanders related.
