Report: Family source says Favre has made no decision

No development regarding the career of Brett Favre is official until the official Favre family scrivener, Al Jones of the Biloxi Sun-Herald, chimes in.

Jones reports, citing an unnamed family source, that no decision has been made by Favre regarding whether he’ll retire for the third annual year.

Brett has not made a commitment to play or a decision to return at this point,” the source said.

So what in the hell is going on here?

Since Favre himself has remained silent, and since we believe the reports that he has advised team officials and teammates that he’s retiring, this whole thing could be a power play aimed at getting more money for Favre or, more likely, getting the team off his ass about showing up for the third preseason game.

Indeed, we’ve got a feeling that the organization had been pressuring him to show up for the preseason home opener, and that Favre finally decided to make it known that he simply won’t show up at all.  By never acknowledging it himself, he’ll never look like he was lying.

And so the end result will be more money for Favre and the ability to show up on the Friday before the first game, giving him six days to prepare to face the Saints on September 9.

if your theory proves true (I wouldn’t be surprised), how can this guy face his teammates? He clearly told someone (sounds like it was Jared Allen) he was retiring. So if it turns out that was just a powerplay, wtf? I couldn’t respect a guy like that as a leader in my locker room, regardless of his value on the field.

Favre could stop this media circus by coming out and saying himself that he still has not made a decision, but he remains silent.
So for all of you homers out there trying to defend him because he “hasn’t said anything,” that is the problem at this point.

Hey Viqueens, I hope it was worth becoming the laughing stock of the league. If he retires, you guys look like chumps that got used and abused for a year of revenge at the tune of 12 million dollars. If he doesn’t retire, he’ll get more money out of you because he has you by the balls and knows it. It’s gonna cost you another 3-4 million to get him to come back.
If Favre comes back, he’ll be the highest paid QB in the league. And the Vikings will be his bitches.

  34. Dial-A-Cliche says: Aug 3, 2010 5:02 PM

Why are the Packers and their followers so brainwashed. Wisconsin literally has become North Korea and the Green Bay Packers are “Dear Leader”. It’s like a totalitarian regime. People send their kids marching off to school singing songs about “Dear Leader” and they hold rallies at the sacred and glorious shrine to ancient victories called Lambeau Field. They even disregard Canton and instead have their own “Packer Hall Of Fame” where they enshrine not only their cherished Packer greats, but practically everybody who ever played for the Packers.
George Orwell would’ve been fascinated to see his Utopian nightmare come to life.

  42. MrHumble says: Aug 3, 2010 5:07 PM

Why is this so confusing for everyone (except packer fans of course)? Why is BF being blamed for this (except by packer fans of course)? Why is everyone hanging onto “rumors” (except packerfans)?
All day long and why hasn’t one damn media member asked two simple questions????????Who reported this rumor first? Who was their source?
It stands to reason that if BF told someone there must be a someone who can step forward…..if someone told someone else, again, step forward….such simple questions but cultivating the rumors sells mags, papers and internet hits so why would the media want to kill the golden goose? The story has “grown” as the day goes on, listen to packerfan posts and you would believe that BF himself stated that he was retiring today. It is unfortunate that in the internet age it is more preferred to post or tweet blindly than it is to quote TWO sources. We understand that rule doesn’t apply in wisconsin, where lies are expected….even between husband and wife, LMAO

  43. quadya says: Aug 3, 2010 5:07 PM

    go phins

  44. VonCreeper says: Aug 3, 2010 5:10 PM

Packer fans remember what Sterling Sharpe pulled in 1994, staging a ‘hold out’ on the eve of their first regular season game and getting more money. Brent certainly remembers this as well, and in fact he slammed Sharpe publicly for it. This looks like the same ploy, only it’s earlier in the year. It’s still way too late for the team to have any other options at this point, though, so he’ll get what he wants. Basic money grab.

the poster is smart enough to make a sarcastic remark about this article……but isn’t smart enough to ask, “who the hell started this rumor this morning”…what’s so hard about identifying the “source” of BF’s pending retirement??? I know this much, NO ONE and I stress NO ONE can attribute a single quote to BF himself but when it’s all said and done it will be BF being a “diva”. The guy doesn’t say chit, no one is willing to identify the source of this rumor but in wisconsin it has already been added to their “bible” as being gospel!!! Of course a bible in wisconsin is printed on the backside of a beer bottle label. Personally, I would be happy if BF returned and he only won 2 games for the vikes……With the Lions improvements, there are now only 2 cupcake games on the vikes schedule if BF returns becuz we all know that BF got into A. Rodgers head bigtime last year with those two decisive spankings and no one wants BF to retire more than Rodgers.

    ——————-
Are you kidding? Panic? We loved seeing the culmination of a choker QB and a choker franchise predictably choke up an NFC championship. It was a perfect season for Favre–hardly any INTs, hardly any injuries for the queens, and an easy schedule. They couldn’t get it done. It’s reasonable to think he’d throw more INTs in 2010, the queens would have more injuries and they’d lose more games due to a tougher schedule.
No one’s panicking. We’re just sticking your noses in it. You all said Favre would take you to the promised land and Favre wanted to screw the Packers over, blah blah blah. Now he may be screwing you over. Well, more than he did in the NFCC game.

you get all excited and sky high thinking he’s retired and the packers may finally have a shot at beating the vikings or even winning the division, then you find out he’s playing and you fall into a fiery tear streaked crash, knowing favre is going to crush your team and your dreams again.
i have begged you people to lower your expectations for the packers to something reasonable, like runnerup again, but you never listen and you always wind up emotionally devastated.
now, i’m not going to say that favre isn’t torturing you intentionally like i used to tell you because frankly i think it’s possible that he might doing all this just partly to mess with you. favre is mischievous that way, he’s sort of a likable imp this time of year. but DON’T LET HIM destroy what is left of your sanity, packer fans! i honestly don’t know how much more some of you like jimmy and bob can take!

    1. The vast majority of Vikings fans don’t think Favre lost that game for the team, they think that a combination of AP and his fumbles, bad officiating, the 12 men on the field penalty, AND Favre’s INT did. Your comments are therefore unfounded.
    2. We enjoyed seeing Aaron, here’s-my-audition-tape-for-the-2014-World-Cup, Rodgers kick the game away for the Packers just as much.

    Hey Rick Spielman,
You might want to call Ted Thompson to find out how a real GM handles this little bitch of a quaterback.

The “professor” is obviously a packerfan as they are accustomed to TT not spending money on his players much less free agents. He further knows little about viking ownership which has never allowed money to be an issue to build a winner. Manning and Brady are set to get the biggest contracts ever in the nfl…..i think a top 1-3 qb ever would well be worth more money….it’s called the “economics of the game”, BF’s stats from last year put him in the running for MVP and he had a better overall qb rating than the #1 stats qb who resides in green baby.

You… that’s what’s going on here… YOU create this BS on a daily basis… stop creating all these ridiculous rumors.
It’s so obvious that you (PFT), including the rest of the lame ass sports media, are creating all of this crap day in and day out.
And the idiots who hang on your every word (90% of PFT’s base) are what keeps driving this crap.
It’s exactly like TMZ… they create all the drama they report on… when there’s nothing to report on… they create some more drama!

FYI: If you have signed a contract to play, be a man of “honor” and play, regardless of how much you are being paid. If you don’t play and your signature is on a contract, I guess you name, honor, and signature mean nothing! If a man doesn’t have his honor, he has nothing!!!

It’s actually unbelievable that any packer fan would talk so stupid after BF smokin’ the Pack twice last year…..the best was in Lambeau, LOL. After the first win in Minny, all we heard was “just wait til Favre comes to Lambeau, just you wait”……we waited and we are still waiting.

  109. nutnbutnet says: Aug 3, 2010 7:22 PM

This is so funny! You can just see the usual Viking flamers on here squirming as they try to spin this into something about the Packers! LMFAO!
Alright purple fairies, here’s a bone for ya’; rumor has been going around that Favre wants more money. This was making the rounds before today. And with Bradford breaking the bank, what has everybody been talking about? How much money Manning and Brady were going to make. This pissed Brett off. He’s no longer willing to play for 13 mil. Zygi’s gonna have to come off some more dough to make this happen. Did none of you pay attention last week when all the sphincter muscles in Mankato puckered up at the same time last week? That’s when Favre put out the word that baby needs a new pair of shoes. He’s a grandpa now, he can’t get by on 13 mil. Thing that got everybodies panties in a wad was Zygi is getting tired of being played like a chump. He gave Childo an extension and the reins and now he’s getting jacked up and the wheels are coming off the wagon. This has made it difficult for Zygmund to close the negotiations for the sale of the team.
But not to worry, Brett has them by the balls. In fact you should realize that Viking fans, he’s been squeezing your little raisins all summer.
By the way, Shiancoe “let it slip” that he got one of the texts, Jared Allen said “No comment.” and Longwell said “Gee, I just talked to Favre five minutes ago and he never mentioned retiring.”
LMAO! Plausible deniability. Say what you want about Favre, he is a master at manipulating the media.
My favorites are the guys who keep accusing Florio of making this all up! Dumbasses, Florio doesn’t make up anything, he reprints what other people say, then puts in his two cents. What the hell do you think Florio is, a sports reporter?
Sherriff Bart was right, white people are so stupid!

You guys really need to get a life. Some of you post like 4-5x on one thread. And you all say the same thing, which is usually nothing about football. Just about how all us Wisconsin folk follow the Packers like a religion and are ‘emotionally devastated’ if they don’t win the Super Bowl every year. God you are pathetic, and need to get a better sense of reality and civility.
Favre can come back or not come back, but the simple fact remains, you have no promising franchise QB and you know this, while the Packers are sitting pretty for the next decade at most of our skill positions. So hate all you want, it’s football, glad you take it so seriously…snicker….

  118. Gravy Makes Sconnies Fat says: Aug 3, 2010 9:03 PM

Calistin, it’s just that the packers didn’t win anything for decades before favre got to green bay and it doesn’t look like you’ll win anything for decades after he left. you’re not even close to the vikings level with or without favre, the vikes won the division with tjack in 08. you just aren’t likely to win as long as thompson is your gm and your revenue is so low.

  119. slegeir says: Aug 3, 2010 9:06 PM

To the Vikings fans, from a Packers Fan:
We warned you he would act like this. He’ll mess with you over at a few more times before the summer is over. This is one of his ways of flushing out if anyone really cares; fans, organization, teammates…if he likes what he hears he comes back…if not he blames someone other than himself. All just to feed his ego. Best thing you can is let him go and move on.

  121. madmike says: Aug 3, 2010 9:23 PM

It’s been several hours since this, the last of the PFT Favre stories for today has shown up. And STILL nobody is asking, Florio included, the simplest of questions. It’s not the source…that’ll never come to light. But if the source said Brett texted his teammates yesterday that he wasn’t coming back, why hasn’t a single Viking said he got such a text? This story has been running everywhere today, and I have yet to see a single quote attributed to any Viking saying “I got a text.” In fact, Chilly and every other Vike has said “news to me”. So maybe Florio, it’s not a Brett consipracy, maybe the AP and ESPN are a bunch of boobs who have garbage sources who make stuff up?

  122. alan69 says: Aug 3, 2010 9:29 PM

Favre needs to chit or get off the damn pot! He needs to train with the team at least three weeks before opening game to get the timing down and be in shape to play. If his ankle is still bothering him that’s another matter. He should be getting treatment and PT for it.

it’s hilarious how packer fans are so desperate to see him gone, which they think will give the packers a shot at being competitive in the division again, that they think they can talk the vikings into “letting him go”. he’s coming back, there’s nothing you can do about it, you’ll finish 2nd again.
