Report: Vikings prepared to offer Favre money, time

Regardless of whether Vikings quarterback Brett Favre is getting the word out about his Third Annual Retirement in order to buy time or more money from the team, the end result is that he’ll likely be offered more time and/or money from the team.

Jay Glazer of FOX reports that the Vikings are prepared to offer more money to Favre, over and above his current $13 million, and more time to join the team.

Either way, we still think Favre will play.

  1. Still won’t win the Vikings a Superbowl. Plus, after this year it is T Jax time which means more years w/o a SB.

  2. Or Glazer was just wrong and rushed his report and is now trying to cover it up so he can have it both ways. Now if Favre retires he can say he was right. And if Favre doesn’t retire, he can say he was right, the team talked him into staying with more time and/or money.

  3. Say – how is Deanna’s Lifetime Fitness membership renewal working out, LOL?
    THANKS TED

  4. If true, then Brett Favre has found one last way to stick it to the Vikings. Forget the NFC North domination of the late 90s, forget the Monday night comebacks and embarrassments, forget knocking us out of the playoffs when it’s all he had to play for on that miserable day in Arizona…
This is almost as bad as how he single-handedly is responsible for Chilly getting a mid-season contract extension. That in itself is a pretty damned good one.
He But leaving us in the lurch like this?
He got us one last time. Bonus points for creativity, Brent.

  5. “Everyone, tell me how much you love me and want me to play. You know I can’t come back without it”. – Favre

  6. Are the Vikings fans out there sick of all this crap? This guy just seems like such a jackass and the team is just an enabler. Seems unfair to the people that spend their hard earned money to go see this team.

  7. He is going to play. He just wants ESPN, NFLN and all the other media outlets to keep talking about how great he is and how much Minnesota needs him. He is such an attention whore.

    **************************************
    Riiiight.
‘Cause the Vikings have clearly shown they have the slightest f’n idea what it takes to win a championship.
They’ve shown they know how to beat a division rival: install their offense, sign their free agents, and throw money and dignity at their old QB..
but a championship? The Vikings don’t have a clue.

  9. Who are we kidding, they would take Favre if he came back the day before the 1st regular season game

  10. Well, i guess throw more money, more time and more ViQueens fan and players on their knee and do you know what to get Favre back.

  11. PLEASE MINNESOTA, for the love of God save whatever dignity you have left and let this clown walk away! You have no shot at winning a superbowl with him at QB as was proven last season. He is more beat up, weak and out of shape than ever and instead of waiting until the NFC championship game, he will break down even sooner this year. PLEASE CUT HIM NOW!

Favre is playing until the day he actually files retirement papers with the league. Next…
    ——————————————-
He did that already…. and then came back anyway. When I don’t see the diva for a season, then I’ll believe his drama is over.

  13. The Vikings should have dumped him in the offseason and signed McNabb for the next 3-4 years. But it is the Vikings so they find ways to screw it up. If he does retired, he just completely ruined a very talented teams season when they could have made it just as far with McNabb. NOBODY HAS WON LESS WITH MORE THAN BRETT FAVRE

  14. What a sad, desperate team….supposedly stacked with great players, yet they bend over and grab their ankles over and over again for this jackass.

  15. I think it was a faulty release by the team to try and force Favre into commenting on his status

  16. As a fan of neither team, this is a joke.
Brett Favre’s legacy will be how he acted like a self indulgent diva who only thought the world revolved around him.
As an NFL fan, he went from a player most fans loved and respected to someone who has lost alot of integrity with the fans of the game.
I knew once Childress said he hadn’t spoken to Favre the circus had begun!
At least for the Jets fans, this takes away from reports from Revis Island.

  17. I think it’s hilarious to hate this guy when in reality he hasn’t said/done anything. We hate the constant media barage of people telling us what he’s doing but the reality is he hasn’t said or done anything to the Vikings. He hasn’t hung them out to dry nor has he confirmed that he’s coming back. The only thing we know is that his ankle was hurt, he did have surgery and it’s iffy whether or not he’ll be healthy enough to play.
You guys are all “god I hate this constant back and forth” or “way to leave us hanging Brent” but it’s just like the people who hated Lebron for the never ending coverage. I hate the way he decided to make the decision but none of the lead up to that day was his doing. He did like any other FA would do and took his time. The media creates this ridiculous person that is wavering and attention whoring out of someone who has said literally NOTHING to the public.

  18. Where do these reporters get their information? None of them have said who they talked to. Did anyone listen to the coaches press conference? No one knows anything!

  19. “Either way, we still think Favre will play.”
Denial is the first stage of grief. How’s your boyfriend Paul taking all this? “Come back Brett! This isn’t Detroit, man!”
I’m sure Sept, 9th will be just as exciting for the two of you. You’ll be in your little booth in the Superdome with candles and champagne and you’ll get to talk about T-Jacks first start in over a year. That’s just as exciting, right?
Or maybe we’ll get to see that beastly 6th round wildcat quarterback start. Or maybe the Vikings won’t show up, forfeit the game, and talk about how the better team lost for years to come. Karma is a bitch.

  20. “I got my mind set on you

A whole lot of precious time
It’s gonna take patience and time, ummm
To do it, to do it, to do it, to do it, to do it
    To do it right child
I got my mind set on you”

  21. Favre just got jealous will the attention Haynesworth and Revis were getting so he’s upped his drama to get the camera’s pointing at him again. This guy is suck a cockbag it’s hilarious. Vikings learning the hard way relying on a diva.

  22. But I thought he just loved the game, would play for free, have to get dragged off the field, play till he was 50, yada yada yada

  23. After seeing the Lebron special on ESPN, Favre realized he missed out on some huge spotlight time the last couple years. Look for the ESPN, Favre will he / won’t he special right before the season starts.

  24. Farve better play and he better play like he did last year.. i have him on my fantasy team.. and Carson Palmer as the back up.. and Jason Campbell as the best available waiver.. so if he doesn’t play. i’m going to retire too.

  25. Brett Favre=Drama Queen Central.
MN needs to cut bait and move on.
My question is why isn’t everyone getting BF for being a me first, selfish type of player. Way to string the Vikings along.
Everyone knew this was going to happen when the first (should I say second) retirement announcement was annouced today.

  26. Stop. The media is driving this, and every bit of saliva which comes from his mouth. I am a die hard Packer fan, AND a die hard Brett Favre fan. Stop the praise and stop the criticsm.
The constant coverage of when he might fart, is stupid.
All who comment are quick to diss or praise. It does not matter to him. So let him be.

  27. I’m waiting for the ESPN, 1 hour, prime time special for the announcement. “The Decision 2: Favre’s Answer”, sponsored by Wrangler.

  28. Four Favre posts today so far.
Come on Whorio, I mean Florio, you can get to 20 posts today if you try !!!!

  29. Beer sales are up in packerland today……doesn’t matter if it is a Tuesday, it’s what packer fans do best……….beer sales will set another new record when they find out that BF is not retiring…..gonna have to drown those sorrows!

  30. Bawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!
See what happens when you dance with the devil?
Sit back Packer fans and enjoy this farce. Ted Thompson, you are a GENIUS!!!

  31. Favre should just retire and then sign with the redskins. That way he doesn’t have to go to training camp, pass any sort of physical test, and he can still make a guaranteed $41 million…

  32. Nobody is talking about how Favre hasn’t said a word, and the “informs team” part of the story is debunked by the fact the Head Coach has NO IDEA!
Favre is coming back, this is someone trying to get something started.

  33. Just when you thought the Vikings couldn’t go any lower, this comes up.
Does this franchise have one ounce of dignity or pride? OK, I answered my own question. No wonder the fans are such douche bags, they are just following the example set by the “leadership” of their franchise. What a joke.

  34. “And thats what it takes to win a championship!”

Time is the greatest Floyd song ever. No question.

  35. Whatever it takes! I can’t imagine the inflatable toilet..aka Metrodome without Brett. Wonder how many Queens fans are selling their season tickets already?

  36. I think it’s one thing to be a prima donna for these past couple of season, but it’s another when the organization, in this case, the Vikings, let him do so. The Vikings are seriously spoiling him. But at the same time, they’re really going all out to try to win now rather than later. They’d rather lose face and win with Favre rather than losing games.

  37. Here’s what i’m thinking. Whether Favre comes back or not, the Vikings are still a top 4 team in the NFC. They will still go to the playoffs. The West & East are weak. The 49ers and Cowboys hold those spots. The Saints and Falcons in the south. And then The Vikings and Packers. The Vikings don’t have a hard schedule. They do have some tough road games (New Orleans, Philly, New England, NY Jets), but they also have the usual Cupcakes (Lions twice, Bears twice, Bills, Cardinals & Redskins).
So speaking of the Redskins. Has anybody noticed that McNabb has NOT SIGNED AN EXTENTION. Remember all that talk of McNabb only wanting to go to Minnesota. Hmmmm… McNabb is waiting to see what kinda deals Brady and Manning get. He’s not gonna negotiate in the regular season. I foresee him riding out the year in D.C. and then Zygi throwing money at him next year. So while the Super Bowl hopes may be put on hold for Vikes fans, playoffs are still in the picture with the possibility of landing a McNabb next year. This retirement isn’t so bad. Anything can happen in the playoffs. Just have to get there first.

  38. Childress said he has not been told by Brett Favre that he is not coming back. He has talked to Favre in the last 24 hours.
He said he does not know if the ankle is a stumbling block. Childress said he still wouldn’t be surprised one way or the other on what Favre does. Childress said he is not pressing Favre for a decision.

  39. Memo to Ziggy Wilf:
Favre will continue to play until Peyton Manning misses an NFL start.
Do you really think it’s coincidence that he continues to play when he already has a Superbowl ring and has proven that he can play at a high level at his age?
He’s waiting for Manning to miss a start so that he has a record at the end of the day. We all know that Peyton will shatter his yardage and touchdown records, and so does he. The consecutive starts record is the only one he’ll be left with IF Peyton Manning misses a start.
Anyone who believes that Favre is chasing another championship is mistaken. It’s all about his record. The longer he plays, the harder it is for Manning to catch him. And mark my words, the first season that Manning misses a start will be followed by Favre retiring, for good, the following offseason.

  42. raiderUfan nailed it. I’ve been saying that as well…Favre hasn’t said a word yet, and everyone is labelling him a primadonna. Shefter and Mortensen and Glazer can’t let two days go by without a Favre story, and it’s Favre who gets the hate.

Also, with the cat out of the bag now, and Shefter and Glazer reporting Favre will issue a press release today…where is it? On TV Shefter said Favre wasn’t even at home. If he’s been texting players and officials that he’s retiring, why wouldn’t he be at home, and why wouldn’t that presser be out already? Refreshing to read posts from 2 guys who actually “get it”……it’s not too difficult to tap into the minds of packer fans. doesn’t matter if this “report” has been substantiated, that BF has said it or even BF’s buddy Ed Werder hasn’t said a peep, packer fans find it far too easy to believe the “report” is coming from BF’s mouth and thus the bashing……if it turns out to be a “false report” those same rednecks will switch to a “he changed his mind again, unretiring”……..i suspect packer fans are paying far more attention to this “report” than viking’s fans are becuz packer fans are hoping against hope that he doesn’t come back…..but they talk tough by letting their beer do the talking. Funny how so many are saying “i hope he comes back so Rodgers and the Pack can bury his ass twice this year”…..when all the sober fans of the nfl clearly recall who spanked who twice last year with neither game being close until it became “garbage time” and let’s face it, that’s when the stats man rodgers plays at his best.

You mean like the time the Packers offered him $20,000,000.00 to keep his intent to retire intact, requesting that he instead accept the honor of being a Packer goodwill ambassador, which would have enabled him to be immortalized for all-time? And he felt that sticking it to Ted was more important? That’s the tactic they are using? No, he is motivated by things far less than money. If he can’t be ready by opening day, keeping his streak alive, he doesn’t want it. If not opening day….then nothing, mark my words.

  71. If you look at the 3 articles on Favre today on PFT, there are over 450 posts already. That’s what Favre can still do.
And despite all of this, I bet if you were to poll every reader 60-80% would say they probably still see Favre playing this season.

  94. I actually hope he does come back. Last season was a fluke (but a pretty good one.) He has saddled himself with so much pressure, there is no way he could perform again as he did last year. I want to see him humbled.

  95. Actually this is all a conspiracy by PEYTON MANNING…ya see, when Vikings up the ante for Favre’s services, it puts more money in Peyton’s pocket. Irsay (Colt’s owner) was quoted as saying he will make PM “the highest paid NFL player”
Trust in PM..his forehead is the size of a billboard.

    ————————————————
While I agree with you in principle I’m am not so sure that Manning will break many of Favre records. Peyton is going to have to play for at least 5 more years at a very high level to get the yd mark and td mark.
Manning isn’t young and he isn’t free of health worries. He’s got a bad knee that could end his career at any time. He had a staff infection in his knee and had a bunch of stuff cut out. That thing could resurface at any moment and he’s done, plus he’s 33yrs old already and is going to have 2 new OL blocking for him this year.

  97. He saw Sam Bradford’s deal and he wants more money. He wants a Haynesworth bonus, and he’s calling next on the Kim Kardasian ride. That said, he should come back and put that interception record out of Cutler’s reach. I see a reality show in his future when he retires. “Farming with the Favre’s”

Perhaps more accurately, the most recent time they’ve won anything is when we had REGGIE WHITE. We had Favre for another 11 years and didn’t win shit. They were 4-7 in the playoffs since ’97.

Pack-tards don’t know that one Pervy, they are taught the “Hind-Lick” maneuver (during their first trip to jail).
Green n’ Gold got so good at it, he got a full-time job “tossing the salad” in the back of the Brett Favre Steakhouse.

Explain to me again how the Brett Favre experiment wasn’t a complete failure? That is, if he actually does retire this time..
    _____________
Okay, once again… are you sure you’re not ADD?
Favre and the Vikings won 12 games, beat the crap out of the Packers Twice and won the division. Favre and the Vikings next destroyed the Dallas Cowboys in the playoffs (something the Packers have never done). Favre and the Vikings then played the New Orleans Saints to a tie before losing in overtime in the NFC Championship game.
Far from being a “complete failure” Favre had an amazing season – by anyones definition – for which the Vikings and their fans are grateful.
It was the Rodgers experiment I believe that came pretty close to being a disaster, starting with the humiliating loss to the Favre on Monday Night Football, the humiliating loss to winless Tampa Bay, another humiliating loss to Favre at Lambeau, finishing 2nd in the Division for the 2nd time in his (2 year) career, and a final humiliating loss to the Arizona Cardinals in a Wild Card game.
You got it now, or would you like me to take you through it one more time?

  113. packer fans, there’s nothing wrong with you clinging to the faint hope that favre won’t play this season. hang onto that dream and don’t let anyone talk you out of it!
of course, the vikes also won the division in 08 with gus and tj but…
no, just keep on believing! one of these years could be the packers year!

  114. @ Scrotum3ntal- Don’t hate because i can play puter’ all day,get my Jimmy Dean polished by yo’ live in and still pay my bills. Eyes B a winner, Use b a loser doucher….

  115. So you idiots think Favre told his other teammates that he is going to retire, and didnt mention it to Ryan Longwell whom he spoke with today, and has been his teammate for over 10+years?
He is coming back. Its not about the $, as he already has plenty of that, so don’t kid yourself. It would be like the fudgepacker fans saying their motviation for continuing to be packer fans, is more beer and farm animals. They dont need anymore! Even with TJack we are still a better team and will win the divison…again.
Green4life nice special olympics shot..very well played f’n moron. Karma wil come back and knock u on your ass, hopefully on the road in front of a semi.

You said “Hope the little bitch comes back to the Dome so Gregg Williams’ D can finish destroying the attention whore and send him back to the farm for good!!!!”
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    a) If the only way your team can win is for Gregg Williams to encourage late hits, high/lows and other “remember me” types of injury-invoking play (read: cheap hits to Kurt Warner) – then you don’t have much of a team – irrespective of your 1 SB win.
    b) You’re classless. Not that you care – but I just thought I’d point out the obvious: You. Have. NO. Class.
