Kurt Warner threw 13, 18 and 22 int in his first 3 seasons under Martz. Injuries kept him from getting close for the rest of his time in St. Louis (But he did manage to throw 11 in his 7 games in 2002). Jamie Martin and Mark Bulger also threw a lot of picks under Martz and so did Jon Kitna (22 and 20) and the combo in SF laid 19 eggs. You can try all you want to say that his offense saves guys a lot of picks but it doesn’t. If Cutler throws fewer picks this year, it’ll be because he finally stops believing that he’s infallible but I don’t think that’ll happen. He’s going to put up AT LEAST 18 this year but I’d be willing to say 21+.

This whole off season has been one big cluster f#ck for the Bears. It’s just emBearassing. Really. Nobody except unwanted cast-offs were willing to work for Lovie. Lovie has zero say on anything except on 4th downs. I do like the guy but the sooner 2010 is over the better. As Hollywood is doing for movies it’s time for a re-boot of the Chicago Bears regardless of what they do this year. I can see Cutler going to Washington by 2012 (sans Mayan predictions). It might be fun to watch this year but a SB victory is just not going to happen and winning it all is what it’s about.

I remember Martz comparing Cutler to Peyton Manning prior to the 2006 draft. I have a feeling he’ll be underwhelmed.

This isn’t what I heard about his 11 on 11 session the other yesterday. Not sure on the exact stat line but he went something 10/27 and 1 INT with one dropped.

I know I’m in the minority on this, but I still think Cutler is a stud. Last year he was learning an entirely new system, throwing to a pretty bland set of receivers. With Martz as OC, I expect Cutler to have a much better year (3500yds, 26tds, 14int).

I thought that Cutler was WAY overhyped in Denver but he is probably better than he played last year with the Bears.
IMO – Martz really is an offensive genius but his fatal flaw is that he does not protect his QBs in his schemes. A lot of his matchups and extra man floods come at the cost of hits to the QB.
I hope Cutler can last all year but MOST Martz system QBs have a hard time doing it.

While I agree that Cutler has lots of potential and generates a lot of excitement, it’s not like he just started throwing interceptions last season. While ranking third in yards in 2008 he still threw 18 picks which I believe was second in the league behind only Brett Favre’s 20.
Having said all that Martz’s offense could be a perfect fit for Cutler as it forces the QB to make a read at the line and throw on time to the WR that coresponds to that read. That alone should save Cutler a lot of INTs since the offense doesn’t really allow him to improvise and force balls late. The Martz-Cutler paring is really a boom or bust combination IMO, it will either be really good or really bad.

Cutler doesnt have Boldin and Fitzgerald to throw near so he throws a lot to other teams. Yeah thats why.
Hes so overrated. Except in his own mind. I can still hear Elway laughing from his pedestal in Denver.
