Report of Plaxico's impending release is disputed

The New York Post has reported that Giants receiver Plaxico Burress soon will be released from prison for good behavior.  The Post cited an unnamed person who has visited Burress.

So we’ve tried to confirm it.  And a source close to Burress has called the report “bogus.”

While that doesn’t change the fact that Giants G.M. Jerry Reese will investigate re-signing Burress once he’s free, it’s by no means clear that he’ll be free any time soon.

Seems like he ought to be released already. I am sure he has learned any lesson that he might learn and certainly has been punished. I don’t see any benefit to keeping him in prison any longer and the tax payers certainly do not need to keep paying for his incarceration. Let him out!

Good….thugs should stay in jail where they belong…
Now if only Vick, Ray Lewis, Roethesberger, Stallworth, and Leonard Little could be put back in…

How is Burress a Giants receiver?

  4. TheToolofTools says: Aug 4, 2010 3:30 PM

why would anyone want to resign this guy.
he needs more time to heal.

The BensGals are already trying to work out a trade for him.

A friend was going to smuggle Plax a gun in prison for a jailbreak but a lady on the bus asked him “Is that a gun in your pants or you just glad to see me?”. He sold the gun and last we heard the two of them were in Vegas.

If a person is sentenced to 1 year, they should serve 1 year. If the prisons are too crowded, put the prisoners to work building new prisons. It’ll teach them job skills such as working with tools, instead of being a tool.

    we understand, mike.
you just fired a shot in the dark earlier, that’s all.
    kind of like plaxico did.

Don’t act like you try to confirm stuff now after all this Favre mess you guys have made.

  13. virtueandvice says: Aug 4, 2010 3:41 PM

Guess the information in the earlier post was shot down by a source close to Burress

  14. spyboots says: Aug 4, 2010 3:44 PM

Roethesberger put back in? He was never even charged much less in jail.

  15. tacious says: Aug 4, 2010 3:45 PM

    @ PFTiswhatitis
I hear what you’re saying… I bet a lot of people do; however, if that were you or I (the everyday average joe) we would be in the clink for the full 3 year minimum… no doubt about it!
I don’t necessarily agree with the law, or the (supposed) mandatory ‘time’ that comes with it (at least for average joes; not sports stars as we’ve seen)… but the law is the law… and he broke it; plus, he’s already getting off somewhat easily by not having to serve the full 3 year minimum… right?
If Plax wants to do some good, then he should, upon his release, use his experience as an platform to lobby NY State to consider changing the non-violent mandatory minumums for weapons violations.

Whether the Giants bring him back this year or not, it won’t matter.
By the first week in December, the NFC East will be decided. And it will be between the Cowboys and Giants.
I hope Dez brings enough to offset the Giants D. The cowboys couldn’t beat the GMeN once last year, and NY’s defense was piss poor (at best).
    Now they’re stacked.
Is this the year that Tony fails for the last time, and Jerry’s heart hemerages right on the field?
    Say it ain’t so..

Florio once again tries to discredit another published report ( NY Post) by claiming his own unnamed source won’t/can’t confirm the NY Post’s report. So who is really wrong here: Florio or the Post? I hope his ‘pals’ over at the Post fire back at PFT.

Oh please, just because Reese said he would consider doing so doesn’t mean that he actually will. Of all people you should know better and know that when a GM’s mouth is open lies are coming out 95% of the time.

“however, if that were you or I (the everyday average joe) we would be in the clink for the full 3 year minimum… no doubt about it”
Except that there is more than doubt, because most people who get charged with the same offense in NYC don’t serve anywhere near that “minimum” sentence. If you had bothered to make yourself even modestly aware of the facts before spouting off nonsense, you’d have realized that.

  25. tacious says: Aug 4, 2010 4:35 PM

Actually, that’s not true… most people Do serve the mandatory minimum. Regardless, the point(s) I was trying to make were that 1) he is not serving the full mandatory sentence of 3 years… AND 2) he could do some good once released to use his experience to try and change the non-violent mandatory minumums for weapons violations.
What’s with the attitude guy? I was merely trying to engage you in a conversation… hell, I agreed with what you were saying.
Why is it that 90% of posters on PFT cannot engage in a normal, rational conversation… most people here are so damn angry all the time… I wonder how you some of you function in the real world?

  26. Rich says: Aug 4, 2010 4:38 PM

I think the guy should do day for day just like any of us “normal” people would have to do if we were convicted oir plead guily to a charge, let alone a gun charge and not get any special treatment but again another “unnamed” source released by the NY Crybabies.

Not really. He easily could have shot someone else. He was careless with a firearm and was holding an unregistered concealed weapon in a club. He should be punished. I just think it is not unreasonable to CONSIDER releasing him.

  35. Mr. Lagoo says: Aug 4, 2010 8:16 PM

Sorry there bspurloc, but the law is the law and everyone must obey it…unless you’re a politician. Buress is just a complete idiot…and he won’t be worth crap whenever he gets out, although he will probably have a new appreciation for showering.

  36. Cup says: Aug 4, 2010 10:15 PM

I think the guy learned his lesson, let him out so he can get on with his life with or without the NFL. I assume he will either land in the NFL as soon as he is released or he will go unsigned, spend a year in UFL and return to the NFL the following year.
The guy still had good skills up until his self violence so he will be back… If he is out until next year that puts him at 34 years old with 2 years off from football, I think he has a few decent years left.
All of this coming from a Steeler fan that can’t STAND PlexiGlass AKA Alligator arms Burress.

  37. trademcscab says: Aug 4, 2010 11:14 PM

he didnt really do anything that serious he just shot himself in a public place with a gun licensed in another state……why would anyone ever get 2 years in federal prison for that

You just worrying about not getting swept this year! Lets see what DIngy Bathroom does while he is by himself for 4 games…How much liquor will he drink bringing his ass in camp out of shape away from the team for 4 weeks….We know your ownership called Godell and asked him to not schedule the Bengals until he returns….Cause you ALREADY know what would happen to you if ShamlessBurger wasnt out there….So where did you say the team keeps their stash of HGH?????

Actually it is Einstein, if you did any research its a felony in NY to have a loaded gun on you without a permit. PLax let his expire, and it was from FL. So apparantly it was too much work to get a permit in NY. I think the time is 3-6 yrs for this one
