As Jason Hanson misses camp, teammates say he's "Favre-ing it"

Jason Hanson, the Detroit Lions’ 40-year-old kicker, is sitting out training camp practices while he recovers from a minor knee injury.

His teammates think he’s taking cues from another 40-year-old who’s currently sitting out training camp.

“The guys are giving me a hard time, saying ‘Just don’t show up if you’re going to fake your way through camp,”’ Hanson said. “They’re giving me a hard time about Favre-ing it.”

Like Brett Favre, Hanson also sat out much of last year’s training camp. But unlike Favre, Hanson is still attending camp, even if his bad knee keeps him from being a full participant.

“I’d rather be working and get a flow going into the season,” Hanson said.

Hanson had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee this week and is expected to play Week One.

    JH’s last season no doubt…

So Hanson knows what it means to be a teamate. He can’t practice, but he’s there as a part of the team. On many teams coaches give veterans reduced reps. Those who care about the team are there; even for OTA’s.
    Then t5here’s ……….

I never understood Hanson. A great guy, a good kicker in his prime. But he never once demanded to get the hell out of Detroit. He could have gone somewhere else and won a Superbowl. He stayed here in Detroit-football hell.

Kinda funny Fraud’s now become the butt of the NFL jokes too..

  5. MotorCityKitties says: Aug 5, 2010 2:51 PM

How dumb would it sound if Hanson was in Mississippi kicking field goals with high school kids claiming that he doesn’t know whether he will retire for the 4th time?… Put’s some pespective of how obsurd the Favre saga is, huh?

To “Farve something up” is to, “Be awesome , Until it really matters” Please don’t get the definitions mixed up.

See, Mr. Attention Whore? This is how you be a teammate. This is how you act like you are part of a team held to the same rules, instead of acting as if the rules apply to everyone but you.
Props to Hanson for doing this, I remember when he came into th eleague so many years ago. Back when Detroit was my second favorite team because of Barry Sanders. The only good thing about Favre not being there is the increased reps that T-Jack gets.

new verb: to favre (pronounced farv)

  9. Biggie says: Aug 5, 2010 2:59 PM

Sounds like he’s gotton “Farvitis”. Can’t remember if that is viral or bacterial, oh well all I can recall is it causes one to become a princess.

Have the Lions promised him 3 million more dollars, the power to override play calls and a pickup at the airport?

Clear indication of how poorly connected PFT is to non-drama NFL stories is their lack of posts on NFL camps that can be fpound everywhere else. There is a ton of real news about the NFL out there, but not here. I guess few to none insiders want to tell PFT anything.

Hopefully this doesn’t mean he’s also texting dick pics out to unsuspecting women.

Down to that. Favre’s become a punchline.

  16. numberfour says: Aug 5, 2010 3:54 PM

instead of saying someone is “phoning it in”…
now they are “pulling a favre”… perhaps even with their camera-phone in use…

Actually the continuation to that joke would be that Farvitis is a yeast infection……
Honestly, the guy is a heck of a player who has a tendency to make truly bone-headed decisions. He will play this year, for the money and because he cannot retire knowing that his last pass helped put The Saints in the Super Bowl.
I personally think he should retire, he is getting really old and is risking serious injury at his age. I would hate to see him suffer a terrible injury because he just does not know when to hang it up. The Vikings would be fine without him, they have a very good team and their coach is very….., never mind, the team is good.

“He stayed here in Detroit-football hell.”
It’s not just football hell. It’s actually Hell.
I’ve been to Detroit and I’m not sure which city is the worst – Detroit, Philly, Oakland, or Tehran.

  19. spartyfi says: Aug 5, 2010 4:32 PM

db3300: at least in Detroit you can drown your miseries in a nice plush casino….but beyond that if you’re going to Michigan, stay away from Detroit. It really is a great state with a lot of fun things to do in the summer, just not in the city!

  20. VikeKings says: Aug 5, 2010 4:42 PM

At least the weather is nice in Oakand. The Oakland hills have an incredible view of the Golden Gate Bridge and is in the Bay Area. Detroit is…. Detroit.

  22. JimmySmith says: Aug 5, 2010 5:25 PM

Wow, they have a professional football team in Detroit? who knew?

  23. CaptainMarvel says: Aug 5, 2010 5:25 PM

Why does everyone keep saying Favre’s pic put the Saints in the Super Bowl??? He threw for 310 yards, had a pic that was the worst call I’ve ever seen – a high-low hit that should have resulted in a 1st down at the Saints 20. The refs knew Favre would win if he got the ball in OT, so they made sure he didn’t with not 1, not 2, not 3, not 4, but 5 terrible calls in OT to give the Saints a gift FG. Katrina Payback.

  24. ClownBurger says: Aug 5, 2010 6:55 PM

Favre is an overrated bum. He isn’t half as good as the man loving media and Favre’s butt buddy fans make him out to be.
Hanson is nothing like Favre. He isn’t dogging it. He isn’t crying and retiring and then coming back.
    Favre sucks. He’s a joke.
And although his fans don’t want to accept it, FAVRE ALWAYS CHOKES IN THE BIG GAME!!!!
Hell, they wouldn’t have even won their ONE super bowl if it wasn’t for Desmond Howard.
Favre Blows! He’s overrated. Hell, he sucks. Tavaris Jackson is better .

  25. krazykjun says: Aug 5, 2010 11:57 PM

farve has now gone to the top of the diva list … well ahead of madonna, barbara streisand, and celine deon … his popularity rating was down to 47% and dropping daily … what a freefall!!!

  26. krazykjun says: Aug 6, 2010 12:00 AM

it’s so sad to see anyone reduced to a punchline … and even sadder for that person to be so self absorbed that he doesn’t even realize it … he farved up his life
