Jason Hanson, the Detroit Lions’ 40-year-old kicker, is sitting out training camp practices while he recovers from a minor knee injury.
His teammates think he’s taking cues from another 40-year-old who’s currently sitting out training camp.
“The guys are giving me a hard time, saying ‘Just don’t show up if you’re going to fake your way through camp,”’ Hanson said. “They’re giving me a hard time about Favre-ing it.”
Like Brett Favre, Hanson also sat out much of last year’s training camp. But unlike Favre, Hanson is still attending camp, even if his bad knee keeps him from being a full participant.
“I’d rather be working and get a flow going into the season,” Hanson said.
Hanson had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee this week and is expected to play Week One.
