is the post going to pay him those incentives that he’ll never earn? why would you bother to CAPITALIZE guaranteed and reference the Haynesworth contract if you didn’t realize the difference between guaranteed money and the fluff that most NFL contracts are filled with? grow up bro.

I didn’t say he would earn every incentive, and I know AH won’t, hahaha. Not every $1 of the remaining amount of contract (after signing bonus) is incentive, some is base salary as well, so the pro-rated portion of the signing bonus going against the cap is 6.5 for last two years of his deal. All he wanted was some security so they extended him 2 years and threw $13 mill in his pocket immediately… so technically it doesn’t boil down to 2yrs/6.5mill extension, it’s more than that (base salary + incentives) we would need to know the base salaries per year to get a good idea of his per yr gross salary, and the thing is, AJ is man among boys out there, I bet he’ll earn a majority of those incentives….

there’s no such thing as a “mandatory rookie camp” as an unsigned draft pick is not yet under contract with the team, tough guy.
the NBA wage scale is based on a slotted number. teams are allowed to pay anywhere from 80-120% of that number. there is still quite a bit of negotiation and just like NFL draft picks, NBA draft picks attend summer league and other activities as a courtesy and show of good faith.
my point was that it’s already understood that draft picks regularly attend OTAs without a contract. it’s also understood that they won’t be doing the same for training camp. how is it motivational to withhold a contract during activities that almost every player already attends regularly without one? furthermore a team is losing valuable time with a player every day he holds out. no GM in his right mind would consider your made up hunger to be worth more than that time.
no first round pick is under insured. look at the suits and watches they wear TO THE DRAFT. look at the cars they drive to off-season activities. your precious agents are very smart and this ain’t their first rodeo, they know how to protect and coddle their clients until the ink is dry on their contracts.
Michael Crabtree’s contract had $17 million dollars in guarantees after his holdout. how exactly did Eugene Parker spend enough to LOSE money on a deal like that?
you didn’t make a single cogent point in all that. you’re either very dumb, very naive or most likely just want to win an internet argument. i’ll leave you too that Sunshine.

You do realize, you boob, that MANDATORY mini camps for rookies started ONE WEEK after the draft and they showed up without the security of a contract and most were severely under insured if they had gotten hurt and had career ending injuries. Teams don’t have a problem with signing UNDRAFTED rookies within hours after the draft because most of them don’t get bonus money and until they show up for the regular season and play, they don’t get anything more than a nominal rookie wage for mini camps and the preseason and then they get 17 equal checks when the season starts. Until the season starts, players don’t get any money except bonus money and their nominal wage and the agents don’t get a penny until the contract is signed.
Do you think that the agents are happy to have their UNSIGNED and UNDER INSURED clients are risking their careers. I realize that there isn’t any hitting but one bad slip and you’ve got a torn ACL/MCL or a high ankle sprain.
Agents want their players signed as soon as possible because the longer that the process goes on, the more it costs THEM.
The NBA has a rookie wage scale and — wait for it – there are several first round picks who aren’t signed and their agents aren’t going to get any more money out of the teams by holding out.

i’ve got a bridge to sell anyone who believes that garbage. just THINK for a second,
A) TEAMS are risking holdouts just to keep their players “hungry” during OTAs? … cause they’re not coming to camp without a contract right.
or
B) agents are fighting tooth and nail to get every dollar they can on behalf of a guy who might never get another contract (earn them another percentage) and/or impress future, potential clients.

BTW, here’s an interesting post from the Sports Agents Blog:
Jack Bechta was told by a General Manager he knows, that he likes keeping the rookies poor and hungry until camp. Therefore, he directs the salary cap manager to hold off negotiating until after the July 4th weekend.
Additionally, Bechta stated “If it were up to the agents, all the rookie deals would be done within a few weeks after the draft. The players would have their money, the financial consultants could start their planning, and the players could get set up in their new city.”
Seems like a lot of people hold the “greedy” players and their agents responsible but…

i’m sure they moved up some money to placate him but he’ll be angry with this contract again in a year or so and now they own his rights for basically the remainder of his career.
the NFL & the NFLPA really need to take a realistic look at how they write these contracts while they’ve got the chance, because this stuff is going to get uglier and more ridiculous each year.

It all depends on how the structure the deal. He might get paid 15 mil year 1 16 mil year 2 17 mil year 3 then work its way down from there. Who knows how they did the deal. I am sure it will come out soon
