Vikings stars continue to miss practice

The Minnesota Vikings B-team continues to get a work out.

We know Brett Favre won’t show his face anytime soon, but the absences of Sidney Rice (PUP/hip) and Adrian Peterson have to be more frustrating.

Peterson missed his third consecutive practice Thursday with tightness in his leg. Even when he’s practiced, Peterson has often been limited. Rice’s return is “probably a ways away yet” according to coach Brad Childress.

“I worry for those guys because you don’t get another time at missed snaps,” coach Brad Childress said on Thursday. “You don’t change everything you are doing to accommodate those guys. There will be a point in time when those guys get back in. While some of these guys will be going through their second or third time they are going to be doing some of these things for their first time.”

Rice remains the primary concern other than the absent quarterback. Can he be healthy enough to be a true No. 1 receiver again? Peterson could use more work on his pass protection and receiving skills, but missing a few days of training camp shouldn’t be a big deal.

Albert Young worked with the first team offense at running back in Peterson’s absence while second round pick Toby Gerhart ran with the backups.
