Breakfast with Albert, day eight

Despite an MRI that found no structural damage in his knee, Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth did not attempt the Redskins conditioning test Friday morning.

This marks the eighth straight day he didn’t pass the test, and the sixth straight day in which he did not attempt to pass the test at all.

Basically, you are totally screwed if you drafted Haynesworth in your fantasy conditioning test league.

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan plans to discuss Haynesworth’s MRI after practice Friday.

    Any sympathy I had for Haynesworth ended when the Lions rookie Dlineman had to take and pass the same test which he did. That put to rest all the notions by some that it was unreasonable to ask Haynesworth to take the test as it appears to be standard protocol around the league.

    So, here’s my question. You are not happy with your contract or playing situation. However – if you hold out – you are subject to fines, etc.
    However if your d-bag head coach is punative, he will require you to pass a conditioning test in order to practice.
    So, what does Albert gain by passing the test. Early camp is the home of the two a day workouts in the heat. By repeatedly failing the conditioning test, he is not allowed to participate.
    Who is the dumb one here?

    If you just committed $100M to a 4-3 DE, don’t you make sure the next coach will commit to running a 4-3? It’s like signing Peyton Manning and hiring a coach who runs the option. Just stupid.

    @seatofmypants
    Some teams require all players to pass the conditioning test upon reporting to camp. The Pats do that and other teams as well.
    Just because Shanny didn’t make his whole team take it doesn’t mean there is anything unusual about being forced to pass this test.
    But keep defending this walking piece of human fecal matter. I’m sure Fat Albert really appreciates it.

  29. gr8fully says: Aug 6, 2010 9:46 AM

    it won’t be an issue when he sacks Romo in week 1, sack him twice and he’ll be the most loved guy on the team…..

    LenDale White is not on the market anymore. So get yours facts straight. You really have no room to talk, but atleast you know that your team can’t win.

  34. PhillyFansSuck says: Aug 6, 2010 10:10 AM

    To all of the People who think Shanny is an idiot, you’re probably the same ones who acted the same way fat Albert has. The money Vinny gave to him is gone, regardless if Albert plays or not. So why not make him the goat by publicly shaming him? Its the necessary step to letting the players know that the patients no longer run the asylum. It may look ridiculous now, but in the long run, the team only benefits by having players who actually want to be here, instead of only for the paycheck. If it weren’t for the stupid contract Vinny threw at Fat Al in the first place, he would have been traded or released by now anyway. Shanny has to play the hand he was dealt.

  37. PhillyFansSuck says: Aug 6, 2010 11:08 AM

    @Jeff
    As I said, if it weren’t for the guaranteed money that Vinny/Snyder gave him, they would have folded by now. But you’ve already paid him, so there is no benefit to getting rid of him, unless they can file for some type of arbitration since he refuses to take the test, but since the CBA sucks, they probably can’t recover any of that money. Perhaps they can deactivate him and give that roster spot to someone else while making Albert practice with the practice squad.

    In the short term this is crazy for the ‘skins.
    In the long term Shanny is molding his team in his image. No special treatment for divas. You make mega $$$ so it’s a full time job. Come to work, get ready fro the season. You need to be in shape to practice and you need to practice hard to win.
    Shanny won’t fold his cards because he has a long term game plan in mind.

  42. JDUBZALWAYSRIGHT says: Aug 6, 2010 11:44 AM

    When will the Redskins figure out that the problem is your owner. Dan synder is not only the worst owner in the nfl but probably in pro sports. From his coaching selection to picking players on the back 9 of there career. Ever since he bough the team he has done the same thing every couple of years try to buy a team and as its be proven time and time again THAT DOESNT WORK!!!! Also Im calling it right now in August the Raiders will have a better record this year and will make the playoff before the Redskins ever will. As a Cowboy fan all I can say is have fun watching us win the NFC East…again

  43. PhillyFansSuck says: Aug 6, 2010 11:58 AM

    @JDUBZALWAYSRIGHT
    Question: the cowboys are one of the most talented teams in the NFL, they have been together longer than most teams. Why Do they Suck in the post season? Division titles don’t mean anything if you can’t win in the playoffs. The cowboys might win the division, but we’ll have fun watching them get bounced out of the playoffs early…again

  44. seatofmypants says: Aug 6, 2010 12:01 PM

    @HarrisonHits
    I think you need to be consistent. If everyone had to pass this test – then i see no issues with it.
    He is making an example out of Haynesworth, which is his right as headcoach. But what is the cost of it?
    If they didn’t want him, they should have cut him before paying the $20 mill guarantee. I am sure no one would have paid him anywhere near that money.
    By doing this, he is giving an excuse to Haynesworth not to practice. How does this hurt Haynesworth? They are, in actuality playing into his hand.
    I am not supporting Haynesworth – just calling it as i see it.
    Shanahan is fighting a Pyrrhic War here.

  45. Hovenaut says: Aug 6, 2010 12:12 PM

    Since it’s clear he’s looking out for his well-being, maybe Fat Al could do something positive for others and contribute a portion of his earnings towards the benefit of NFL vets who have struggled w/ physical issues in retirement. But again, what’s portion mean to this guy?
    Look up Wilbur Marshall, the guy is in horrible shape. And there’s many others out there as well. Reading their stories, and then having to listen about this shitbag is a disgrace.

  46. runningamuck says: Aug 6, 2010 1:34 PM

    @ Hovenaut:
    So true !
    Players today have no appreciation for the game.
    It is a ‘ ME ME ‘ attitude. Give me the money, then I will do nothing for it.
    Owners need to wake up !
    As a Chicago Bear fan, watching Wilbur Marshall play the game, was a treat. They don’t play like that anymore. At least I was around to see the great players of yester year.

    @PHILLYFANSUCK
    we’ve been together longer than most the teams in the NFL? what about the pats, colts, saints, titans I could go on. It may seem like that to a redskins fans cuz yall have a new team and coach every other year, but we are going into year two with out T.O and in year one we won a playoff game something we havn’t done in 13 years and yes I’ll be the 1st to admitt we looked horrible in our last game, but the comment wasnt about the cowboys winning a superbowl (though we do have way more than than anyone else in the NFC East as well as confrence championship and overall win loss record against the other teams in the divison) the comment was about how its been the same song and dance ever since Dan Synder bought the team and has it ever worked for yall?? Didn’t think so!! The Skins should be part of the UFL maybe then they’ll be competitive….MAYBE!!!

  48. Nard100 says: Aug 6, 2010 3:20 PM

    I hate to beat a dead horse, but he didn’t have sign to get his 21 mil bonus this spring if he had such a “philosophical” difference. He did because he wanted the money. He got it and now starts acting like he just couldn’t show for OTA’s because he just didn’t know how they were goning to use him? The time for that nonsense passed when you got your 21 million dollar check. I understand how his teammates are restless for him to get on the field, but at some level they have to feel betrayed by a guy who took the money, but doesn’t want to play by the rules. It will be interesting to see if Snyder has the intestinal fortitude to let this play out or if he tells Shanny to let him play.
