Patriots claim injured player from Broncos

It was about a year ago that we learned the name Don Carey, a rookie cornerback of the Browns that was claimed by Jacksonville when the Browns tried to “waive/injure” Carey during training camp.

The Browns thought the Jaguars did them dirty; others believed it was just business and the Browns shouldn’t have taken the risk.

A very similar case just occurred on Friday. Lindsay Jones of the Denver Post reports that the Patriots claimed safety Josh Barrett off waivers from Denver.

Barrett, a third-year player, was scheduled to undergo shoulder surgery that was supposed to knock him out for the season. Perhaps the Patriots have other ideas or perhaps they will just keep Barrett on the roster until they can safely move him straight to injured reserve.

Either way, we’ll be curious to hear the reaction from Bill Belichick and especially his protege Josh McDaniels following the transaction.
