1. Jesus, you are a toad. Hell, in 1987, the replacement games DID count but fans didn't show up, except in a few games and TV ratings were down significantly. The QUALITY of the players is what the fans look at NOT that they play in the NFL. Fans show up at preseason games that feature REAL players but they then leave in droves when the grocery baggers hit the field.
2. Really? Are we talking MLB or the NFL? Hell, if you're going to go there then why not talk about the Arena League, toad. NO professional league in this country has as few risks as the NFL.

Edgy - the sad part is, from one e-mail to another, you totally lose track of what you are arguing...because you are a total buffoon. There is no point trying to rationally argue with a buffoon....sorry.....
Two facts
1)What does preseason have to do with my statement that any player is replaceable.....you spewing non-relevant facts is NOT arguing a point. People dont go to pre-season games because they DONT COUNT - NOT because the players arent playing. But, even if you were right on this......it doesnt matter, you miss the point entirely.
2)Just ask the MLB owners how owning a professionally franchise is a RISK!!!! LOL
You submissions and conjectures are laughable......you have very little with your points but your ignorance IS entertaining.....Thank you!

golongboyee says:
Edgy, these 5 "points" of yours prove you either cannot read or you are functionally illiterate:
*****************************
Wow, it's like watching the Glenn Beck show when he denies that he ever says something after he says it and they've just shown him 5 different videos showing that he said it.
1 I never said they get "all kinds of money" and I never elluded to the number of players that DO collect a pension
golongboyee: First of all, why dont you go ask how many people in the us would love to be injured to make $350K. It would be a lot. This doesn't even consider the lofty pensions they receive at retirement
Do you deny saying that/ It's also the height of stupidity to say that most people would love to be injured to make $350k. You know what, in order to collect that money, you've got to be DISABLED not just injured and if you think $350k would pay for all the pain and suffering, especially when it would ALL go to pay hospital bills, you're – wait for it – MORON.
2 I never said this either. See above.
3 no, I am NOT wrong, especially in context.
Context? You're wrong – PERIOD. There are PRE-EXISTING condition exclusions for long term disability, whether you want to admit that or not. You're just plain WRONG.
4 Of course you are too stupid to understand the context in which this comment was intended
You're a fool. Why do you think that owners make season ticket owners foot the bill for preseason, moron? It's because if they didn't do it, they wouldn't get half the crowd or get a third of the money if they let fans go to whatever games they want during the preseason. Preseason ratings are down significantly from the regular season because fans aren't buying into hype.
5 doesnt matter if this is the case or not.......there are OTHER risks and every owner is taking a risk.especially when you consider opportunity costs
Guffaw! They get others to build their stadiums and when “they” pay, it's usually though a PSL, which means that others are paying for the stadium and while the team gets the juicy dates and can hold non-football related events (and don't have to share the revenue with the players and the owners), it's the city that built the stadium that ends up having to maintain it and foot the bills and they usually don't get much from the team. You're totally ignorant of the “risks” and if you think that they risk anything, you're a fool.
Not ONCE have you stated a fact or put out a figure. All you've done is say “I'm right and you're wrong” and then call everyone a moron and say that we've got it wrong. You are pathetic. Go away, little boy, you bother me....

Edgy, these 5 "points" of yours prove you either cannot read or you are functionally illiterate:
1. You say that players get all kind of money for pensions when MOST don't even collect a pension. - I never said they get "all kinds of money" and I never elluded to the number of players that DO collect a pension
2. You say that they have generous injury coverage when they don't. - I never said this either.
3. You say that pre-existing conditions apply to health insurance, not disability but you're wrong there as well. - no, I am NOT wrong, especially in context.
4. You say that the players don't matter when you're an IDIOT to say that. Seriously, of all the things that you've said, this is CLEARLY the stupidest thing that you've said. - Of course you are too stupid to understand the context in which this comment was intended. I never said nor inferred that a scrub QB could replace Manning, to the fans or to the performance of the team. THAT IS NOT THE ISSUE HERE IDIOT. I meant this from a perspective of earnings and fan support. If Manning was taken out of the lineup today and replaced with Joe Schmo and the team continued to win. Than, NO, it would not make a difference. Even if the QB wasnt as good, even if he handed the ball off EVERY TIME to some great new RB they might have gotten, fans would still pack the stadium because they would still be winning. From this perspective moron, Manning is replaceable. Sorry, EVERY player IS replaceable from this standpoint...........PERIOD.
5. You talk about owner risk when they don't take it. They risked MORE in the businesses that got them the money to buy an NFL franchise. If you think that they take risk then you're an idiot. What business starts with 80-90% of their employees' salary paid before their fiscal year even starts? - doesnt matter if this is the case or not.......there are OTHER risks and every owner is taking a risk.especially when you consider opportunity costs....(i.e. the lost opportunity of an investment made one place which COULD have been made somewhere else) Whether you refuse to believe it or not........THERE ARE RISKS.....IN ANY BUSINESS...I DONT CARE WHAT BUSINESS THAT IS....IDIOT
But thanks for these five points. They clearly prove you are either a fifth grader, a barely functional retard, or a loser nobody stuck in the basement of your mother's home. Either way you have no idea what you are talking about on ANY of these points and worst than that, you have no ability to create rational thought nor provide a cohesive thought to any of your arguements...........LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!

golongboyee says:
****************
You've proven two things, here: you can call everyone a moron and you won't provide evidence of your points.
1. You say that players get all kind of money for pensions when MOST don't even collect a pension.
2. You say that they have generous injury coverage when they don't.
3. You say that pre-existing conditions apply to health insurance, not disability but you're wrong there as well.

Finally, you've called everyone here morons but it seems that the only moron here is YOU. You haven't produced ONE REAL FACT and when I've pressed you for actual numbers, you've said that I have to produce them and when I have, all you can do is call me a moron. You've produced NO tangible numbers because you're TOO STUPID to actually look them up. As I said before, I doubt that you've EVER looked at the CBA. Hell, I doubt that you've ever looked at the players' retirement package to know a damn thing about what you're talking about. All you can do is go on and on and on and on about the players without producing ONE FACT. I wouldn't be surprised to see you call every person here a moron because you've done that with everyone here in this ONE topic.
Your contention about all players being replaceable is the SINGLE STUPIDEST statement that I've ever seen: here or anywhere else. If you think that Peyton Manning is replaceable then you're too stupid for words. Ask the fans of the Colts if they can just plug in any of their backups and replace Manning. Ask any of the fans of the NFL if they can pull some practice squad player and put him into the starting lineup and expect him to do as well as the starter or do you not understand the concept of a practice squad.
Finally, Adam-Chris Schefterson said NOTHING to you that should have elicited a response for you to call him a moron. You got pissed at me and complained about what I said to you but then you turn around and without provocation, call him a moron. Hell, you called ME a moron for making a statement that wasn't even provocative and then you got pissed at me for responding to you negatively when you're the one that started all this shit. Why don't you look at the fact that you've called EVERYONE a moron and then started using the word individually and then turned around and cried when others took umbrage for your insults - HYPOCRITE.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see you call every person here a moron because you’ve done that with everyone here in this ONE topic.
Your contention about all players being replaceable is the SINGLE STUPIDEST statement that I’ve ever seen: here or anywhere else. If you think that Peyton Manning is replaceable then you’re too stupid for words.
Hell, you called ME a moron for making a statement that wasn’t even provocative and then you got pissed at me for responding to you negatively when you’re the one that started all this shit. Why don’t you look at the fact that you’ve called EVERYONE a moron and then started using the word individually and then turned around and cried when others took umbrage for your insults – HYPOCRITE.

"What risk did Jones take? He bought a team with a high value for less than market value because the previous owner wanted out."
..are you kidding me, are you really this stupid? Anyone that purchases ANY business for the price he paid is taking a risk, even if it is a "lower risk" proposition like owning an NFL team.
He could have purchased it, highered a terrible coach and GM who drove the team into the ground for years and decreased the value of the franchise..........if you cannot see this you know NOTHING about business!

Edge - you are a flat out moron....all players are replaceable. If you dont think so, you are a fool. Also, disability refers to compensating someone for NOT being able to complete their job activities becasue of the injury. If an NFL player is injured on the job, so be it. Yes, he should receive SOME compensation. But, given the average length of a career, he shouldn't be paid for 20 years.
Adam-Chris Schefterson - you fail to see the point because you are absolute moron. Yes, many people will go see a movie w/Cruise even if it is a dud, mainy because many will:
1) go see it even if they know it is a dud becasue they would see ANYTHING with him in it.
2) go see it even if it labelled a dud by reviewers because reviewers dont always have it right.
So, your point about people not seeing is moronic, yes many may NOT go see if they hear it is a dud but more will STILL go see it if Cruise is in it.
Sorry if you are too stupid to comprehend this!!!

Edgy - oh, and another point. The owners are that ones that SHOULD make a lot of money. It is their business and it was their financing that got things to where they are today. They took the risks and now, some second string CB out of Tulsa expects to come in and make bank because what the team might make. RIDICULOUS. People go to see movies (in a large percentage) to whom is IN the movie.........Tom Cruise can argue his value, players, in the majority cannot.
If a team goes undefeated, do you think people are NOT going to show up becasue it might have zero stars.......NEVER. If Peyton Manning had no team around him and the Colts were 0-16, would fans show up????NO
---------------
And in that same vein, if Tom Cruise makes an absolute dud of a movie are you arguing people will go see it anyway? Generally speaking, people will not pay $9 to see a flaming piece of trash from a star actor. So I fail to see your "point". And I really have no idea what you were trying to prove in the first place.

WRONG but thanks for playing our game. I tell you what, you can continue to live your life of fantasy here and tell everyone how YOU know how life works when anyone that's got half a brain knows that you don't have a clue.
Oh and you're just plain stupid to say crap like that. Are you saying that the CEO or a company the NFL owners and coaches shouldn't be part of pension plans just because they're making so much more money than you? How about congressmen and actors and others who make more than you? You're just plain stupid to even say that. MOST of the players DON'T make $1 mil and MOST of them NEVER get an NFL pension - PERIOD. Most NFL players will either collect Social Security OR they will collect what ever they get for the retirement plans that they get where they work after the NFL.
Finally, WITHOUT those players, the owners wouldn't have jack. Jerry Jones thinks he's a marketing genius but he was a TOTAL failure with the AFL and he was THE WORST owner in the league. He got a ton of things for the Cowboys because they're "the Cowboys" but his Desperadoes team was the joke of the "NFL" AFL franchises. Why is the "marketing genius" such a failure in the AFL -- he didn't have the Dallas Cowboys playing for him. What risk did Jones take? He bought a team with a high value for less than market value because the previous owner wanted out. His deal for Cowboys Stadium was financed by the city of Arlington, the NFL and FANS and he made $200+ mil to boot on his PSL and the previous stadium was built 18 years before he even bought the team. He and the other owners suckle from a $3 bil TV teat that is attractive because of the PLAYERS and NOT the owners. He gets revenue from licensing because of the PLAYERS and NOT the owners. He gets ticket revenue because of the PLAYERS and not the owners. You don't think that the players don't meaning anything? Ask every season ticket owner who is forced to pay for exhibition games that feature guys who will be bagging groceries at the end of the preseason whether they'd bitch as much if they were watching the REAL players for 4 quarters and I think that you'd that they would because they feel cheated about paying for less than NFL talent NOW. Face it, preseason games feature ALL the NFL TEAMS but the stands are usually empty by the middle of the third quarter when the grocery baggers are playing. You'd think that if the players didn't matter that the fans would stick around longer.

Edgy - if you would actual try and converse like a human being and stop using your ridiculous slang!......your points might make more sense.
1) You obviouslyknow nothing about insurance because your accusations are totally false. Pre-existing conditions apply to HEALTH insurance, NOT disability idiot.
2) I am aware of how the NFL pension plan works moron......but, one could say that it is ridiculous anyway that an individual making $1M a year or more should get a % of that as a pension. Bottom line, they shouldn't, These arent electricians we are talking about....and rock stars do not have union or a pension. There is a thing called SAVING your money. And if you are making big bucks and your future health is at stake, one should SAVE their earnings based on this fact. THAT is the way it should work.
3) In every system there is probably somebody who is going to get screwed..it happens.
4) It is ridiculous that ANY sports have pensions. Absurd. SAVE YOUR MONEY, ACT LIKE YOU ARE MAKING $100K like even the most blessed of NORMAL society. These athletes are prima donna cry-babies who expect to be pampered their entire life They need to get a grip and get real. Playing in the nFL is a fantasy land and they need to treat it as such. Do we want to argue what the ARENA league players get???????

Edgy -
1) First of all, why dont you go ask how many people in the us would love to be injured to make $350K. It would be a lot. This doesn't even consider the lofty pensions they receive at retirement.
********************************
More fishes and loaves talk. Buckwheat, they are DAMAGED GOODS and they can't get many of the things that you can, like long term disability insurance because they go in with a pre-existing condition.
Now, as for the $350k, first, that's in 2012 but that's SIGNIFICANTLY less than the maximum lifetime benefits that most people get with their health insurance or did you not know that? Don't say that it isn't because I've never had a policy that's been less than $4 million. In Hennings' case, it was $225,000 and his fusion surgery and rehab ate that up.
Boobarella, they have to be VESTED into a pension plan and their retirement pay depends on how long they play and it doesn't kick in after they retire from the game but 55 and the payments get bigger like they do with Social Security if they hold off taking retirement right away. There IS an early retirement age BUT it's only available to those whose careers started before 1993. A player that takes early retirement at age 45, for example, only gets 45% of his normal retirement AND his retirement package also depends on when he played. For example, if you played from 1983 to 1986 and took your retirement at age 45, you'd get $461.04 a month or $5532.48 a year while if you played from 1992-1995, you'd get $497.20 or $5966.40. Does this seem like the fishes and the loaves to you?
The average career is 3 1/2 years, which means that most don't get the fishes and loaves because it takes 4 years of CREDITED service to be vested. Oh gee, you continue to look like an ignorant stooge.
In 2006, Todd Christensen points out that most of you F&L crowd seem to think that their pension is as good as MLB. A 10-year MLB player who takes his pension at age 62, would get $175,000 while that same person would get $32,000 for playing in the NFL.
Have you even read the CBA, dipshit? Did you know that while they're paying for the retirees so they won't lose the PR wars, they are NOT paying for any benefits for active players this year? No pension, no 401k contributions and they've saved more than $10 million per team AND they could lower ticket prices for all the money that they've saved by not bidding up salaries and not paying for benefits BUT THEY DIDN'T.

This doesn't even consider the lofty pensions they receive at retirement. You keep talking about all these "severely injured" players out there. Sorry, that is just not the case. And, by your comments, you obviously have no idea or clue how the NFL retired player programs work.
2) Hate to break the news to you, players are replaceable....and you can find horror stories about EVERY profession. Doesn't mean it is a frequent and recurring problem. Do you expect these players to get the world. Give me a break.
You are as clueless as you are flat out dumb!

edgy - you are the idiot that made the moronic comment, it is up to YOU to prove your point. Of course, you dont get that EITHER!
******************
Ok, here we go. Another ignorant fool ranting on about how the players have got it made but he won't prove that he has no idea about how much F&L that the players get because he's either too stupid or too ignorant.
FYI, you retard, NFL players can get $325,000 for 2010 and 2011 and $350,000 for 2012. If you think that's going to go a long ways for guys that have been severely injured, you're frigging stupid.
The owners have worked hard to get workman's comp laws in their states to deny coverage or cap coverage. Chad Hennings, when he retired, got $225,000 but that ran out quickly and he sued to try to get WC and the lovely, caring and cuddly, wuddly, Jerry Jones fought him tooth and nail for 7 years until Texas' 10th Court of Appeals finally gave him benefits (BTW, Jerry loves to go after former Cowboys, even going so far to fight a Cowboy that played before he bought the team over the fact that he needed money for artificial hip replacement).
Oh and because this is an uncapped year, the teams are saving about $10+ mil each in benefits that they won't be paying for the players this year -- HAPPY BIRTHDAY.
