Emmitt Smith apologizes to Florida for Hall of Fame speech snub

Emmitt Smith’s Hall of Fame speech has generally drawn rave reviews, but some have questioned whether his failure to mention Florida was an intentional snub because of hard feelings toward his alma mater.

But Smith says that’s not the case at all. Instead, Smith is pulling a Steve Martin and saying, “I forgot.”

Sports by Brooks points out that Smith offered up an apology on his verified Twitter account.

“thx to all for da good wishes about the hall of fame…need to say a special hello to my GATOR Nation,” Smith tweeted. “I sincerely sincerely apologize for not mentioning u last night in my hof speech Gator Nation. I jus got caught up in everything plz charge it to my mind not my heart!! once a GATOR always a GATOR I loved everything the U of florida gave me.”

Smith’s explanation squares with what our own Mike Florio heard: Even though Smith’s speech was the longest of the night, he had originally intended to go even longer, and when he was asked to cut things short, he simply wasn’t able to mention everyone and everything he wanted to mention.

Emmitt was mad becuz he didn’t think any of the other inductees should’ve been allowed to give a speech……he thought it was all about HIM (cowboy mentality).

If Walter Payton had Emmitt’s O-line he would have rushed for 25,000 yards easily.

moolah954 you must be living in the 90′s still because last time I checked, Florida ran the state in college football. I do remember the past, but we’re living in the present and we are the “New U” kid. Get it right, or you don’t get it at all!
