While the San Diego Chargers have been playing hardball with key components of a team otherwise poised to contend for a championship, we’ve been wondering whether the franchise’s refusal to make a financial commitment to core players like Shawne Merriman, Vincent Jackson, and Marcus McNeill would prompt the fans to refuse to make a financial commitment to the franchise.
If the first preseason game is any indication, the answer is “yes”.
Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports that more than 8,300 tickets remain for the team’s preseason opener. If the tickets aren’t sold out by Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. PT, Saturday night’s home game against the Bears won’t be televised live in the Chargers’ home market.
Acee’s advice? “Prepare to watch on tape delay.”
