Despite meeting with Revis, Jets planning for life without cornerback

HBO representatives have said the Jets have given them better access than any team previously on Hard Knocks, which makes us even more excited for the show’s debut this week.

But there are places the cameras won’t be allowed.

Darrelle Revis’ agents and Jets G.M. Mike Tanenbaum met at a random diner in Roscoe, New York on Friday night — two hours away from training camp.  Revis’ agents made a new proposal, and are awaiting an official response, according to ESPN New York’s Rich Cimini.

The unofficial response isn’t encouraging.

“We’re going to prepare like he’s not going to be here,” coach Rex Ryan
said Monday. “If he comes through the door,
that’s fine. Somebody will kiss him on the lips, probably. But the guys
that are here, those are the guys we’re getting ready for the season.”

This approach is a change-of-pace from Ryan’s previous statements.  Antonio Cromartie is practicing in Revis’ spot.  It just sounds like more hardball.

“HBO representatives have said the Jets have given them better access than any team previously on Hard Knocks”
They said the same thing last year with the Bengals.

or maybe they truely believe that with all the weapons on defense they have in place they just may be able to have a nice season without him. Cromartie has been a disappointment since his rookie season but if the jets coaches can get him pointed in the right direction revis may be forced to crawl back for less money

Rex gives revis a big smooch.

This situation is becoming increasingly humorous to me. “Revis Island” …what a joke

  6. MistrezzRachael says: Aug 9, 2010 3:19 PM

Interesting scenario here..is when new CBA comes out and salary cap comes back..the jets more than ANY team will find themselves in cap hell.
Tannenbaum is playing ‘go for broke right now’…because after this season, look for them to lose MANY stars…or players they hyped as stars.
Raiders right there w/them as 2 teams that better do it now, or theyre dead.

  7. MrHumble says: Aug 9, 2010 3:19 PM

Sounds to me like jets mgmt finally told rex to “zip it chowder head”……too little too late i’m afraid. the fuse has been lit on one hellva implosion for the jets…….blame it on Al. LOL

  8. BigBear123 says: Aug 9, 2010 3:20 PM

Asmoughalala is the better shutdown corner. Revis can’t play tall recievers, maybe he is just scared of Brandon Marshall moving into his division and exposing him for being ubpar against big boys.

It’s that darn Al Davis’ fault.

  10. majorlots says: Aug 9, 2010 3:21 PM

If that’s what they were gonna do, they should have stuck with it from the beginning

  11. 21skinzfan says: Aug 9, 2010 3:22 PM

They can’t pay Revis Island ’cause they bit more than they could chew. Too bad, fans lose again.

It sounds like more non-news. Just another hit stealing strategy on PFT’s part.

I can’t wait to watch this over-hyped, over – the -hill, every other teams rejects, green pile of crap fall flat on it’s face this season.
    Jets suck

  15. EverybodyGotAIDS says: Aug 9, 2010 3:27 PM

Well I think that Revis and the Jets are at something of an impasse. Contractual issues are difficult issues and both sides will likely need to give a little if there is any hope of…..wait, did Rex Ryan say someone was going to kiss Revis on the lips?
Did he at least add “No Homo”?

  16. Cubano says: Aug 9, 2010 3:33 PM

“Somebody will kiss him on the lips, probably.” Yep, we all know who’s chubby, greased up, chinese food tasting lips those are going to be!

Anyone who has been to Roscoe, NY knows that there is no such thing as a random diner.
It’s the world famous Roscoe Diner!

  18. Canned Heat says: Aug 9, 2010 3:34 PM

Good. Screw him and the Jets. Isn’t it funny that he can try to hold a gun to the team’s head, but if the guy lays an egg for a year or two and the team wanted to rescind his contract or take some money back…well.
These kinds of tools are the ones that should twist a knee the day after the teams bend over and renegotiate.

  19. BoltDaddy says: Aug 9, 2010 3:35 PM

    Cro for Revis
    LT Jones
    Etc..
    Is this how you improve?

  20. JaggedMark says: Aug 9, 2010 3:37 PM

Obviously, this means they are close to a deal. I expect one within 48 hours.

  21. GangGreen75 says: Aug 9, 2010 3:38 PM

That’s what any Coach, even Rex would do. HE’s gotta make the guys there feel that they’re important. You guys love making it seem like Revis is going to sit out the entire season.

  22. Pervy *Harvin says: Aug 9, 2010 3:44 PM

I’m sure Ziggy would pay Revis what he wants. He would look good in purple….

  23. NYJALLFINGDAY says: Aug 9, 2010 3:45 PM

This doesn’t really imply anything we don’t already know. Rex is talking about how they’re not going to let the Revis Holdout affect what they do in camp. At least Kyle Wilson is getting plenty of reps.

“the jets more than ANY team will find themselves in cap hell.”
Haha. What team has ever found themselves in cap hell? The Redskins are supposed to be in cap hell every year but it still doesn’t stop them from signing players and recruiting free agents. This isn’t the NBA where it’s impossible to get rid of contracts.

Like those midgets Moss and A. Johnson.

  27. Don says: Aug 9, 2010 3:59 PM

Some definite posturing going on. The very idea of Revis giving them a written proposal means he is wavering. I would think he might be back in camp tomorrow with or without a new deal but I’m not sure how long he will stay there.

  28. mrzazz41387 says: Aug 9, 2010 4:05 PM

He has been saying this for the past 2 weeks. It looks as if Revis will sign this week.

  29. SomeFans says: Aug 9, 2010 4:06 PM

joke jets… earning their bottom position in the AFC EAST once again.
call us all when you break .500 winning %. That should shut your traps for at least another decade…

  30. Ralph says: Aug 9, 2010 4:07 PM

There’s a long list of players that held out and then were either injured or ineffective after they came in late.
It’s not too late, but a couple more weeks will make it tough. Gotta get used to that hitting and the speed of the game all over again.

  31. NYJALLFINGDAY says: Aug 9, 2010 4:18 PM

LMFAO SomeFans. What was the Dolphins win percentage last year?

Bad job by BigBear, but at least better than his first post which sounded like the rantings of a slowly developing 8 year old.
I actually think that Reggie Wayne had the best game against Revis in the regular season game. Wayne only played like half the game and I think i recall him dropping a wide open catch that would have been for serious yardage. Remember Revis getting burned on that one.

    Prick-bride:
Even Gin and Tonic Jr beat revis. He only 5-10″
Revis is nothing but hot air hype- coming out of the wrong hole of a fat a$$ coach . Once rex learns his pie hole is for demonstrating his gluttonous ways at the dinner table, we’ll all have a better idea that the only island in New Jersey (not new york) is Sexy rexy himself.

I guess Revis’ next meeting will be at the “Boars Nest” in NY.
