Bears put down Unga for the season

The Bears picked up BYU running back Harvey Unga in the seventh round of the supplemental draft, hoping that he would fit in as a Mike Martz H-back.

The team can only hope Martz (and coach Lovie Smith) still have jobs when Unga returns.

The Bears placed Unga on injured reserve on Thursday because of a hamstring injury, ending his season. This will go down as a redshirt year for the versatile big back.

Kahlil Bell and Garrett Wolfe are battling for the No. 3 running back job behind Matt Forte and Chester Taylor. Unga was a long shot to have much of a role.
