Jets, Revis commit to confidentiality

With the first episode of Hard Knocks, during which the team did more than a little grandstanding regarding the contract dispute with cornerback Darrelle Revis, in the books, the Jets and Revis’ agents have finally agreed on something, other than to continue to disagree.

Moving forward, the two sides won’t be talking to the media about the situation.  (Starting . . . . now!)

“Both parties have had conversations to clear the air and will continue
to negotiate with the hopes of reaching an agreement,” the Jets and Revis’ agents said in a joint statement.  “From this point
forward, all discussions regarding these negotiations will remain
confidential
.”

That’s fine.  And it sounds good on paper.  But, if we recall correctly, the NFL and the NFL Players Association once struck a similar deal, which has long since been abandoned by both sides.

Frankly, we’re confused that Revis’ agents would agree to radio silence, on the heels of the Jets essentially presenting a closing argument to the court of public opinion.

Then again, the agreement isn’t worth the paper on which it looks good.  It’s meaningless as a practical matter, and unenforceable as a legal matter.

Our guess?  Regardless of the intention, this deal won’t last long.  “Confidentiality” isn’t in Rex Ryan’s vocabulary; it has way more than four letters.

Revis doesn’t want the world/teammates to know he’s turning down so much money.

  2. Topher says: Aug 12, 2010 1:16 PM

The Jets want it out in the open “bring in the whole team” … Revis wants it confidential. Its a smart ploy by the Jets it makes it seem as if Revis is being unreasonable and puts them on the morale high ground.
Furthermore it sounds as if Revis’ people already know they can’t win a PR war against the Jets.
Time to spend some of that money you are going to get and higher a PR firm, Mr. Island.

Neil Schwartz is in WAY over his head – His whole client list is Hold-Outs…
These litle boys are about to get NFL Blacklisted – mark it down..
NEVER again will a Schwartz client be a Jets draft pick – I’m pretty sure ATL and SD are on board with tht as well.,.

Haha, let me get this straight. rosenthal writes an article flaming the jets for not keeping things behind closed doors. then florio writes an article flaming the jets for attempting to keep things behind closed doors. BRAVO!!

Florio, you admitted yesterday you don’t have HBO, and this morning wrote a post saying you say a 130-second clip of it on youtube.com with Rex Ryan swearing.
So, you haven’t seen it, correct?
But that doesn’t get clicks on your precious website, does it?
So don’t say, “during which the team did more than a little grandstanding regarding the contract dispute with cornerback Darrelle Revis”.
They didn’t. I’m not a fan of any AFC East team, so am unbiased here. But in typical Florio fashion, something out of nothing is the name of the game.
I saw players saying it was his business to attend to, I saw G.M. and owner both trying to resolve the situation. Yes, they were frustrated, as it is a frustrating situation for everyone involved, I’d imagine.
There was even the scene of Revis on the side of a fans’ made poster represtenting a milk carton, and the chant, “we want Revis” by the crowd.
Stick to what you know best, which is next to nothing.

If I had a ranch, Id bet it on the Ravens in week one.

  10. Calir says: Aug 12, 2010 1:29 PM

Let Revis sit out this year and for next years strike year. That should pretty much set the precedent for players with multiple years left on their contract. Sanchez needs another year anyway before they can truely be considered a threat to win the Super Bowl.

  11. jcjets says: Aug 12, 2010 1:29 PM

My guess is Revis wants to join his teammates and a deal happens by the first preseason game!

  12. ampats says: Aug 12, 2010 1:31 PM

    What ??
The practice is already cancelled and the entire Newark team is ready to negotiate.
Guess when Rex has an idea it depends on which way the wind is blowing.
Tannenbaum came off as a real asshole last night, patting himself on the back for the Holmes trade which I remember the Jets offered more than what any other team offered for a player one step away from a year long suspension.

es, you did read the title correctly. Chris Chambers’ stalker was so awesome at stalking that Chambers decided he wanted to marry her. That’s right on July 24, 2010 entered wedding bliss with Stacey Bernice Saunders in Las Vegas, NV.
Saunders was Chambers’ mistress while married. Chambers’ wife found out about Saunders and Chambers’ broke it off, which any husband in their right mind should do. But that did not deter Saunders, it lead her to a stalking campaign that culminated in 11 counts of stalking. The San-Diego Union Times had the account:
A 27-year-old San Diego woman who had an affair with former Charger Chris Chambers has been charged with 11 misdemeanor counts for allegedly stalking and harassing the wide receiver’s family.
Stacey Bernice Saunders is due in court Jan. 19 for arraignment, said Paul Levikow, a spokesman for the District Attorney’s Office.
Chambers’ wife, Christina, told San Diego police in April that Saunders was harassing her with phone calls. Two months later, Chambers requested a temporary restraining order against Saunders, saying she has “launched an incessant attack verbally on me, and now my wife, her mother and sister.”
Saunders even contended that she had Chambers’ child and the child died at two months of age. Private investigators couldn’t find a birth or death record or any child. I’m quite sure she will cash in on the ‘baby ticket’ very soon. Hopefully, she won’t imagine the next baby.
Chambers’ married Saunders two days after his divorce.

If the Revis camp is pushing for this confidentiality then that tells you they themselves think the demands are unreasonable and don’t want others to know. Ryan probably wants to threaten open forum because the Jets have probably already offered him a massively lucrative deal and most outsiders and team mates might be angry to find out he wants more.
If I were the Jets I’d offer the kid a lot of money because he’s worth a lot. I’d make the offer public. And if they don’t accept it then let the kid sit on the couch all season. You can only do so much.

I think NBC is going after the under 25 y/o male niche with this PFT site. Immature and crude comments rule the roost on this site, so posters are either pretending they are adolescents, or they actually are. There is a strong impression that many posters are at work in some boring entry level job. So NBC is after the ‘wannabe somebody’ crowd with this site.

1998: Miami had a solid 10–6 season in 1998 with a career season for receiver O.J. McDuffie, but it was not enough to get past the 12-4 New York Jets into first place in the division. The Dolphins beat the Bills in the wild card round, but lost in the next round to the eventual champion Denver Broncos.
1999: Miami suffered the second worst playoff loss in NFL history against the Jacksonville Jaguars: 62–7. After the season, Jimmy Johnson left the team and Marino retired.
2001: The Dolphins lost in the first round of the playoffs 20–3 to the Baltimore Ravens.
2002: Miami pulled off an impressive win over the Oakland Raiders and sat at 9–5 with two weeks left in the season, in prime position to steal the AFC East. However, despite dominating the New England Patriots for most of the game in week 17, the Dolphins blew an 11-point lead with mere minutes remaining in the game that led to a heartbreaking loss. Due to a tiebreaker, both the Dolphins and Patriots lost out on the playoffs as the Jets took the AFC East title.
2007: The Dolphins hit rock bottom in 2007, losing eight games in a row before the bye week, five of which were by three points or less. A loss to Philadelphia in Week 11 sealed their fate for the season, and the next game was a rare 3-0 defeat in Pittsburgh. A win in Week 15 over the Baltimore Ravens ensured that the Dolphins would not have a winless season, but the last two matches were lost, ending Miami’s 2007 campaign at 1-15.
2008: In 2008, the Dolphins performed a 180-degree turnaround, aided by new coach Tony Sparano. The team ended at 11-5 and won the division title, making for the greatest single-season turnaround in NFL history. However, they were routed out of their own building and the playoffs by Baltimore, 27-9.

Whats the point of posting historical stats about the Dolphins in random articles that have nothing to do with them? It’s getting old and it makes you look pretty dumb most of the time…just fyi
Rome just had a pretty good burn on Rex Ryan and the Revis situation. He pointed out that Ryan is always saying no one player is above the team but he wants to cancel practice so that EVERY player has to drop what they’re doing to focus on one guy?? Also, he ended with “Stick to dropping F-bombs in hard knocks, lapbanding and (forgot the last one, but all in all it was pretty funny)”
