Brandon Stokley fighting to make the Broncos

The Broncos don’t really have a number one receiver. They’ve got roughly seven number three receivers, and that could be a problem for one of the most well known slot guys of the last decade.

Brandon Stokley looks squarely on the roster bubble in Denver, just a year after his deflected game-winning touchdown catch against the Bengals proved to be one of the NFL highlights of the year. (And one of the best calls: “CAN YOU CATCH HIM? . . . STOKLEY . . . WOW!”)

The former Colt knows that Eddie Royal, Jabar Gaffney, and rookies Eric Decker and Demaryius Thomas are locks to make the Broncos roster. That’s four spots. Matt Willis has enjoyed a strong camp and his play on special teams should help him make the team.

That leaves Stokley and former 49er Brandon Lloyd for the sixth and final spot if the Broncos keep the same number of wideouts as they did last year. Lloyd has impressed in camp and received a lot of praise from Josh McDaniels.

As Jeff Legwold of the Denver Post points out, Stokley may need to grab the attention of McDaniels during the preseason or Stokley will run right out of Denver.
