NFC South training camp one-liners

With Mike Peterson battling a calf injury, Falcons rookie Sean Weatherspoon will start at weakside linebacker on Friday night.

Friday night’s game will also give the Falcons a chance to see if DE Jamaal Anderson’s impressive training camp translates to game situations.

Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez admitted it will be emotional for him to face the Chiefs on Friday night.

In a welcome change from past seasons, the Falcons might actually have too many defensive backs.

Panthers QB Jimmy Clausen played his first game on Thursday night and his 8-for-15, 80 yard performance was indicative of a rough night for all the team’s quarterbacks.

The Panthers let loose a sigh of relief with the news that DL Tyler Brayton’s ankle injury turned out to be a sprain and not a break.

Brayton had two sacks before leaving the game, part of a big night for the Panthers defensive line including strong performances by rookies Greg Hardy and Eric Norwood.

Panthers T Jordan Gross picked up a false start and two holding penalties in the preseason opener.

Saints coach Sean Payton found many sloppy things that need to be corrected during the 27-24 loss to the Patriots on Thursday night.

One of those things will likely be tackling after the Saints allowed lots of yards after catches to Patriots receivers.

QB Patrick Ramsey completed seven passes for 111 yards in his Saints debut.

Two players fighting to make the Saints had strong nights: Larry Beavers returned a kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown and Chris Ivory led the team in rushing with 30 yards and a touchdown.

Buccaneers RB Kareem Huggins is fighting for significant playing time thanks to an impressive camp.

The Buccaneers have been very pleased with the contributions of all their rookies so far this summer.

OL Donovan Raiola’s lack of versatility is going to make it hard for him to make the Buccaneers.

During his retirement press conference, Derrick Brooks asked Buccaneers fans to forgive the franchise for the circumstances surrounding his departure from the team.

In related news, Sean Payton was upset with the officials for not allowing his defense to “send a message to Tom Brady” will late and/or illegal hits.

    “Will late and/or illegal hits”
    Is that English?
Why are you on an NFC South related post anyway?

A little piece of Justin Reis died last night with the horrific QB play of Carolina’s signal callers. Sweet dreams…

Kay Bee…….and you haven’t hit the wrong key when typing before????? In case you haven’t figured it out yet, it should read “with late and/or illegal hits”…….there, is that better??? lol
As for why am I on an NFC South post????? what kind of crazy question is that, does the topic matter of a sports post only belong to fans of that division?????? WOW, someone needs to get a life.

Yeah and that someone is you…get a life already! Instead of obsessing over the Saints all the time…you should worry about why Favre and Harvin aren’t in camp. The Vikings are a mess!
P.S. There’s a HUGE difference between “will” and “with.” You’re just a dummy…no excuse for that.
