Roethlisberger continues to get kudos for strong camp

Corey Rawson’s favorite son may have thin skin, but Ben Roethlisberger has shaken off a humiliating offseason with a strong month of August.

“Ben Roethlisberger has had the best first two weeks of training camp in
his career, which makes the first four weeks of the Steelers’ regular
season that much more important,” writes Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.  (Bouchette is not a writer prone to throwing out unearned praise.)

We still don’t know who will start Pittsburgh’s preseason opener, but logic would indicate that Byron Leftwich would get as much work as possible this month. Leftwich is reportedly struggling with a minor thumb problem, but it shouldn’t prevent him from suiting up.

Meanwhile, the Steelers have to be cautiously optimistic that the Roethlisberger who returns to the team in October will be an improved version of an already-effective quarterback.

Didn’t the 49ers say that about Lawrence Philips?

Ed Bouchette has his head so far up Bens backside he can’t get it out. Who gets all the interviews with Ben. ED.
Local reporters are the worst. I was at camp 3 days heard people yelling stuff at Ben but nothing reported. Can’t report nothing negative.

You haters and trolls won’t admit it, but Roethlisberger is one of the top 2 QB’s in the league.
You morons can keep living off of Tom Brady’s last ring that came 6 long years ago, or Peyton Manning’s fancy stats and constant big game chokes, but Roethlisberger and Brees are the two biggest threats in the NFL come playoff time.

    yeah right-
    this means a lot-
maybe Rouchette’s not a writer prone to throwing out unearned praise but he is a sports writer that wants to be able to write about the stealers.
It’s fairly effin obvious the Roonies have brought the hammer back down the last few weeks with regard to anything negative. PigBen is no longer fair game.

So you were at camp for three days huh? Well so was I….you forgot to mention the loud applause that Ben got as well as “ALL” of the support from local fans at camp. No doubt there are people yelling things that to be honest are quite inappropriate with so many young children around. In saying that, he does have a majority of the fans support….
As for who gets interviews with Ben…well they all do. Why don’t you try watching local TV, or better yet….I don’t know say maybe FSN-Pittsburgh….go back to the bar…

Lets go steeler haters…..truth is, he was never accused of rape, charged with rape, or said to be a rapist. Its something dumb haters came up with. I dont hear anyone giving crap to the slut who followed him around, tried to get him to buy her drinks, put herself in a situation she later became embarrased about, and lied to the police. Lets hear what you all have to say about her. OH and if you arent charged with a crime, your not a criminal…..isnt that what Ray Lewis supporters have been saying?

The average PFT poster hates all teams, and players of those teams, except for their own. Then when there’s an article about their team they ask why everyone hates. What a bunch of sensitive pansies. The editors of this site love it. They make money off your insecurities. And now Ed Bouchette is a jerk for reporting that he’s having a good camp? Wow.
The fact of the matter is that the man wasn’t charged with any crime. He wasn’t charged because there wasn’t any evidence. Good grief leave it be already. If he’s a troubled man with issues then he will always be that, regardless of what he’s doing in camp now.

Wa….? Actually, 2/3rds of the above statement is either a lie or just plain wrong. He wasn’t charged, but believe it or not, backwoods Georgia may not have a crack police force capable of putting together a solid case or a top-notch DA capable of beating a high-priced legal team, especially when the criminal bribes the victim.

    Yawn. Really, how boring.
When an employee of a company slacks off or does something really bad, they tend to be warned by a boss or supervisor that they need to starighten up and fly right- or else. Typically, the employee straightens up- starts working harder and faster… for a while, anyway. Then they go back to slacking off and/or the bad behavior that got them in trouble in the first place. 1000% chance that’s exactly what’s happening with Rapistberger right now. OF COURSE the guy is doing well in camp- he’s scared out of his wits that he was nearly traded to some shitty team or was gonna be out and out cut. So, to get the press, front office, and the people off his back- and because he’s so happy he didn’t get run out of town, he’s relieved and turning in a good camp.
But just wait. When he feels the attention has blown over, he’ll go right back to doing the asshole/douchebag type shit that he’s apparently famous for. As soon as he feels his job isn’t threatened anymore, he’ll be right back out in bars with his dick hanging out of his pants, lining up conquests. It’s a matter of time- guaranteed.

  16. Runnin' outta fingers says: Aug 13, 2010 12:35 PM

@ aids – you clearly have no clue what you’re talking about. If you’re charged with a crime, you cannot bribe anyone to get out of it.
The police had plenty of evidence from that evening and found nothing. Perhaps they were swayed in that direction when they asked the victim if she was raped, and she replied ‘no”.

Exhibit A: Why PFT is a great place to go for quality football chat. It’s basically one step away from getting to talk to the players themselves. Pure objectivity, to the max.
At any rate – for anyone who’s made it out to Latrobe, how has Leftwich looked vis-à-vis Dixon? Is there really that much of a difference to merit Dixon basically being written off back in April? I’m a few states away, so I’m outta the loop.
On an unrelated note, how’s Redman looked?

Good for him. He’ll be better, the Steelers will be better and the league will be better.
I can’t wait until he gets hold of that crappy Ravens defense, and that woeful secondary. Too bad he has only one shot at them this year. That’s one guaranteed win instead of two.
I don’t know about Ben being a top 2 QB….but he’s definitley on the list of top 5. No doubt.

Ben is a historic average qb. And all this he is better than Peyton and Brady crap needs to stop. But Ben in Indy and New England and Ben is on the bench. Put Brady or Peyton in pittsburgh and Ben is on the bench. FACT

Ben is an average quarterback, at best. And all of his weaknesses will be exposed in his first game back. Lord, I hope it’s against the Browns…
I feel another Joe “Turkey” Jones/Terry Bradshaw moment in his future.
And, for all of you Ben fans out there, happily wallowing around in his man-goo, you had better pray that Tomlin finds an effective offensive line. Right now, it’s swiss cheese.

    @LvSteelersH8Ben
Ben is historically an average qb?
He has incredible numbers in a system that has favored the running game in past years. And when Arians finally put the team in his hands, what does he do? Throws for the most yards in a single season for a Steelers qb.
I absolutely agree that Ben is in the top 3 elite QBs in the NFL. All he does is win. And I for one can not wait for him to return from his suspension and gives hope to the Steelers…as long as the team can manage at least a .500 record during that time.
Time for the beloved Steelers defense to return to Super Bowl winning form…at least for 4 games…

  35. Ravenmaniac says: Aug 13, 2010 2:29 PM

Ed Bouchette may get most of the interviews from Ben but that does not mean that Ed gets all of the accurate information from Ben.
Ben recently implied that he had a new girlfriend in his interview with Ed. However, I heard from a reliable source that on the Steelers Family Day the only people there to represent Ben was his father Ken and Step-Mother Brenda and so where it the girlfriend?
Maybe this was just PR/BS coming from Ben to satisfy the Carma-Fans that think because Ben has been accused twice of rape in the past couple of years should be in a hurry to get married and have children, as Ben said in his interview with Bob Pomerani a couple of months ago that Ben had received Fan Mail advising him he should get married and have children NOW and Ben said that cannot be forced.
However, that doesn’t mean that Ben might not use a PR Gig to satisfy the Carma-Fans. JMO!

Ben is obviously an arrogant douche bag who believes he is head and shoulders better than everybody else. Good for him – it still isn’t illegal, it just makes him and arrogant douche bag. A pro athletic should be nailing chicks in the bathroom of bars – it is thoroughly expected. Having said that, given the shit storm he is in, I may suggest he stay sober and out of these types of situations for a bit!

  39. Blackn'Gold says: Aug 13, 2010 7:10 PM

I have no idea what Ben thinks of himself relative to the world around and neither does anyone else on this board. Ben having a good camp suggests that he is taking his life and his responsibilities seriously.
Unlike the haters, Steeler fans, Steeler players and the Steeler organization are moving forward. The less Ben is in the news the better. I hope the public forgets about him until he starts playing in regular season.

I’m a Steeler fan who cares about the STEELERS. The STEELERS are a laughingstock because of ONE PLAYER. You guys forgive Ben for that but I do not. Save the sorry banter “He wasnt charged with anything”. How many times have you went over the speed limit without getting stopped? Does that mean that you havent broken the law? Ben is a pervert and once he acts up again (and he will) I will joy in watching all you guy cry. And spare me with the “we didnt win until Ben came along” crap. Because we were winning BOTH super bowls than ben participated in WITHOUT any help from him. We should have blew the cards and seahawks out but our lethargic qb has a efficiency problem. We were up 20-7 vs the Cards with little or no contribution from Roethlisberger.
Again, our team is a laughingstock because of this THUG. Any Steeler fan that applaudes this guy is not a fan of the Steelers, you are a fan of Ben.
