AFC West training camp one-liners

Mike Klis of the Denver Post expects Broncos T Ryan Clady (knee) to return to the team around August 30.

Broncos TE Marquez Branson made a faster-than-expected return from his ankle injury.

It looks like WR Eddie Royal should be a starter for another season.

Newly signed RB Justin Fargas won’t waste any time before getting into preseason action.

Back in the doghouse?  Chiefs LB Derrick Johnson was still playing with the backups’ backups in the fourth quarter Friday.

Chiefs coach Todd Haley wasn’t happy with a particular sack QB Matt Cassel took against the Falcons.

The Kansas City rookies held their own in their first action.

RT Ryan O’Callaghan didn’t do himself any favors against the Falcons.

The Raiders escaped their first preseason game without any major injuries.

Oakland’s defensive line enjoyed a powerful performance against the Cowboys.

Raiders coach Tom Cable defended QB Jason Campbell’s slow start, saying it was a “real step forward” from JaMarcus Russell.  (Although Russell played well last preseason.)

The Raiders continue to struggle with pre-snap penalties.

Chargers coach Norv Turner wants to see how LB Shawne Merriman looks before handing him a starting job.

Merriman’s teammate Stephen Cooper said you can’t get a big contract sitting at home.  (Marcus McNeill and Vincent Jackson disagree.)

Chargers RB Darren Sproles is one of eight San Diego players that will sit out Saturday night’s game.

San Diego’s tight defensive line has a wide open battle for playing time.

They may disagree, but they also don’t have a big contract. In fact, they lost about $3 mil by sitting home.
