Gregg Williams lays verbal smackdown on Patrick Robinson

We get a lot of press conference transcripts sent to PFT from teams around the NFL, which we appreciate. It’s a good way to keep track of what coaches and players are saying, even if it doesn’t directly lead to a lot of posts.

Then again, Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams is a lot more quotable than your average coaching drone. Here are his thoughts on first-round rookie cornerback Patrick Robinson’s play in New Orleans’ preseason opener.

“Patrick has a lot of skill but right now he doesn’t know how to play,” Williams said. “Right now I don’t have any trust in him. He has to take the next step up in pro football. He’s had too much down time and he doesn’t know how to take care of his body. Right now, he’s my whipping boy.”

We don’t have much we can add to that, but here’s a great picture from the New Orleans Times-Picayune of Patriots wideout Julian Edelman also making Robinson his whipping boy.
