Ryan Grant suffers head injury against Browns

A perfect 10-for-10 start from Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been overshadowed by an injury to the man whom the Packers hope will be their workhorse tailback.

Ryan Grant suffered a head injury on his third carry of the night.  He got up woozy and exited the game.

Via the replays available at NFL.com’s Preseason Live, Grant took a helmet-to-helmet hit from Browns cornerback Sheldon Brown on Green Bay’s second drive of the night.  After stumbled to the sidelines, Grant seemed to be paying particular attention to his jaw.

  1. I like Grant, but I would love to see what the rookie James Starks could do. Hope he is healthy enough to get some carries in this game.

  2. Rub some dirt on the jaw, then sit out until the last preseason game. Take two carries and get the heck off the field.

  3. Like the drunken rubes in the stands, Grant has picked up the local Saturday night pastime of leading with his jaw.

    It is preseason.
    __
what the hell does that even mean?

  5. It mite only be preseason but it is still VERY telling that playing at Lambeau, jake delhomne (yes that jake) passes the lowly browns right down the field against that vaulted packer defense…..looked to me like that pass defense is picking up where it left off in arizona. raji keeps doing nothing furthering his BUST reputation. No pass rush, no plays by db’s (woodson didn’t hold thus he couldn’t keep up)…..hey rodgers looked good against that tough brown defense.

  6. “GREEN BAY — If Brett Favre is watching this one, he’s likely texting someone at ESPN right to announce he will indeed return for a 20th season.
    Why?
Cuz the Packers’ pass defense — coverage, rush, you name it — is still AWOL.
When we last saw Green Bay, it was losing 51-45 to the Cardinals in the playoffs. Tonight, the Packers picked up right where they left off by letting Jake Delhomme march the offensively-starved Browns 80 in 11 plays for an easy 7-0 lead. In his only series, Delhomme completed 6 of 7 passes to mostly wide-open receivers and tight ends.
Then Seneca Wallace came in and threw two touchdown passes. Two. Yeah, that Seneca Wallace. One of the touchdowns was to a wide open TE Ben Watson, who was just trotting down the middle of the field basically uncovered by anybody.

  7. this is exactly what i was trying to warn packer fans about for weeks, the packers pass d is just horrific. 8 wins, maybe.

  8. Is Eric Wright odd man out with Sheldon and Joe Haden playing the corners?….And wow, Green Bay’s defense is BAD!

I think you were looking for the words, “might,” “Jake Delhomme,” and “vaunted.”
Use words you can actually spell, then perhaps someone will listen to your inane ramblings….

As we are all unbuttoning our coats of preseason these days, I do believe that the cutting in half of the live should be reserved for those with proper training in the use of a cleaver. Don’t try this in your home coat, kids. No homo.

  12. That Sage Rosenfella is licking his chops……He cannot wait to get a taste of that Super Bowl Bound Packer D…………Oh it looks like its alot like Chistmas…hehehe

  14. vaulted past participle, past tense of vault (Verb)1. Provide (a building or room) with an arched roof or roofs: “a vaulted arcade”.
    2. Make (a roof) in the form of a vault: there was a high ceiling, vaulted with cut slate.
vaunted past participle, past tense of vaunt Verb: Boast about or praise (something), esp. excessively: something has gone awry with the government’s much vaunted fight against crime.
Mr humble, you are dumb as a box of rocks.

  15. Ho Hum.
BigBear said ” coat of preseason…”. You idiots should note that the ” a ” is next to the ” s ” on the keyboard. Substitute ” s ” for ” a ” and ” cost ” magically appears. Now the comment makes sense.
Too hard for you?? You all manage to read Rosenthal’s gibberish with no problem…..

  16. Here’s some numbers for you Mr. Humble (3-1, 2-2, 2-2, 2-2, 2-2) and (1-3, 3-1, 1-3, 1-3, 3-1). The first group of numbers are the preseason records of the last five NFC Super Bowl representatives and the second group represents the records of the last five AFC Super Bowl representatives. Now, you can choose to believe that last year’s No. 2 defense, playing its most basic preseason packages, and missing two starters (technically 3 if you count Bigby) is now among the NFL’s worst, meanwhile Sage Rosenfels has established himself as an elite NFL quarterback or you can choose to believe that preseason numbers don’t mean a thing.

  17. And let’s not forget when the Lions went 0-16 they won 3 games in the pre-season. Thank you SJ Apollo for also pointing out your stat. Oh, and based on Sage’s and Travaris’s performance last nite, the Vikes have told Brett to stay retired. Get real dorks! It is f – ing preseason!!

And yet, if they had held the Browns to 30 yards passing and forced 7 turnovers, you’d be reminding us this is still the preseason and it still means dick. They played a vanilla defense without several starters and looked bad doing it. But it’s preseason, so it doesn’t much matter.

  20. Ambrose – I know, but I feel a duty to try to educate his dumb ass. Like I’m paying a debt to society or something.

  21. ambrose, these days you sound like an emotionally fragile old man alternating between fits of trembling rage and bursting into tears when you read something you don’t like. it’s only a message board, sir, we talk smack here on both sides but most of us do it for fun and we don’t get all hysterical about it.
why even read it or comment if you take everything so seriously and it makes you so upset? try to have fun with it or just go to the senior center for a nice relaxing game of cards instead.

  22. and adam-chris schefterson, i just don’t think tt has given dom capers the players he needs to make the 34 work. that scheme is all about lb’s and you don’t have any legit pass rusher besides cm, you just don’t get enough pressure on the qb especially in base. also your ilb’s don’t cover well over the middle and also if you’re counting on a rookie safety being assignment ready that’s trouble.
also your special teams don’t show any signs of being better and bad special teams kill you. you’ll score alot of points as long as rodgers stays healthy and your o-line stays intact but you’ll need them with that d and st.
i think capers is a good d-coordinator i just think tt hasn’t given him the players he needs to make it work or enough depth either.

You watch a lot of Packers games, Mr. Humble

If you go back and check Viking threads, none of these clowns has anything to say about the Vikings team, until a Packer fan comments. Otherwise they spend all their time here on Packer stories. They aren’t Viking fans, they’re not even football fans. Haven’t you noticed when one of these dbags like Mr.Stumble tries to make a football related post they are so far out of their depth they make fools of themselves.
They should all meet up at Pervy Harvin’s basement apartment and play bathtub turds together.
That would be nice, and a better application of their collective intellects.

Yes I bet they do. Lets just be reminded, we didn’t lose to you because of our offense, it was the down right terrible defense that lost those games!!

  26. GBPackers, i was just curious, where do you take the sheep you hook up with? to a motel??? do they ever smoke a cigarette afterwards? is there any 4play involved? do you ever give them a coconut oil massage beforehand just to set the mood or would that be too messy with all that wool? do they already have names like flossie or do you give some of them nicknames like “my little lambchop”?? do you use protection or is that not necessary with a sheep? do you ever give them something to drink first just to loosen them up? have any of the sheep ever gone all fatal attraction on you and terrorized you after you moved on to the next sheep????

Bravo. Well done. This is probably the best post you’ve ever fingered. And I think there’s a lot of truth to it. I’d welcome more thoughtful posts like this from you.
I think you’re right with Matthews being the only legit pass rusher. We’ll see if there’s any improvement from Jones this season, or if they switch to Chillar.. But I don’t know if they’re going to get consistent pressure from those guys. We’ll have to see how offenses adjust when Matthews is back on the field.
Having said that, they were a damn good passing defense last season WITHOUT a lot of pressure. More INTs than anyone, DPOY, etc, etc. But I agree, they need more pressure. Favre, Roethlisberger and Warner showed what you can do to them with a good QB and time to operate.
And I agree whole-heartedly on the ILBs in pass coverage. Hawk’s terrible in space. Nice run-stuffer, usually knows where to be and good tackler.. Terrible in coverage. I want to see more Desmond Bishop.
As far as the special teams are concerned, I think you’re fooling yourself if you don’t see any improvement. Either of the punters they have now are an improvement over last season. That’s big. They both averaged 47 yards and we saw hang times up to 5.1 seconds on Saturday night. Obviously, they need to do it in a real game, but they’re light years ahead of the punting situation a year ago.
And if they can teach Shields to catch a ball, he could challenge Blackmon for the return job. He’s definitely got the speed.

  28. GBPackers, i would like to stick to my promise but you didn’t follow the rules. i said, and i quote, “you have to post that phrase exactly as i wrote” but what i wrote was just 3 words. did i tell you that you were allowed to add “Their.” no i didn’t. did i tell you that you were allowed to add “Done.” no i didn’t. did i tell you that you were allowed to add “Good riddance!!” no i definitely didn’t.
you just have to write the 3 words i told you to write, nothing more and nothing less, and then i swear to god and i vow that i will never come on a packer thread again unless you specifically say that you miss me and you want me to come back.
adam-chris schefterson, thanks for complimenting my post. i can’t disagree, it was a very, very strong post, i thought you’d like it. it definitely wasn’t the FUNNIEST post i’ve ever written but maybe i could write some posts that are amusing to me and some posts that are just football related but since you liked that one i’ll try to write more of them.
