Torry Holt’s season is over

The speculation regarding whether Torry Holt will make the Patriots roster can end, possibly along with Holt’s career.

The Patriots placed Holt on injured reserve Sunday, ending his season. Holt was absent from practice the last few days, and his agent tells Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com that Holt will undergo knee surgery this week.

We wondered aloud if Holt would even make the team, and his odds didn’t look great with the young players in front of him performing well. Holt is only 34 years old, but it’s worth wondering whether his career will continue. He spent almost two months on the open market as a free agent before the Patriots signed him.

The seven-time Pro Bowler will make an interesting Hall of Fame case one day. The peak of his career was truly brilliant, but his production dropped off a cliff after age 31.

With Holt done for the season, Sam Aiken looks like a better bet to make the Patriots.
