Good signing. I think @ the end of the yr they might be kicking themselves for not grabbing another former Eagle that plays QB. Alex Smith sucks and with that dee, and the other weapons Donovan could have gotten them far into the playoffs. Alex Smith not so much

Any Eagles fans that say Westbrook is done are idiots he played great when he wasnt hurt last year and for the concussions he only had 2 that I can remember and I think him being held out had more to do with congress then his ability to recover or play. Before congress got involved there were 100′s of players who had more concussions then Westbrook and have lived normal lives since.
Great signing by the 49ers he will be a top 5 number 2 running back this year and is better right now the a 1/3 of the starters in this league.

It’s a better choice for Westbrook. If he still has anything in the tank, he has just upgraded the 49ers backfield. He’ll have to be used sparingly to keep him fresh through the season. Still he could be used late in a game to get a score that could decide the outcome of a game. Good Luck to Brian Westbrook!

They are going to depend heavly on the run and if Gore starts to show signs of aging or gets injured this team is really going to struggle to move the chains.
Yes Westbrook is old too but they wouldnt need him to start a full season. All he would need to do is take 5-10 snaps a game and be an insurance policy for Gore. I dont see a better optition for the 49ers right now.

I love Westbrook but a one year 1.25 mil contract when your knees are bad, you have bad ankles, multiple concussions, and well over 30.
I don’t know I respect him as a player he was great for the Eagles he played with class and style. I really hope he doesn’t get seriously hurt this year!
I would have preferred to see him retire and go on to the next chapter in his life, the guy is actually very smart has an advanced degree and probably can make more doing other things.

I will always root for B-West, i hope he doesn’t take another blow to the head and suffers any permanent damage. For a 3rd round pick from a division I-AA school, to an NFL all pro, he certainly made a name for himself. And he was electrifying….

Westbrook will always be an Eagle first.
having said that, I would have like to see him retire.
but i guess if he’s not, i’m just glad he didn’t go the Rams.or the skins, the 49ers seem like a safer place for him..

As an Eagles fan, I’m happy he got what he wanted. I’ve been a big fan of his over the years, and my kids both have his jersey. I wish he would have just retired, though. A couple more head blows and the guy’s not gonna be able to remember his own name.
At least he’ll be playing on real grass most of the season, turf would have shredded his already bad knee.

I think even though b.w. might not last all season, i think all the niners want to do is buy some time for dixon to be ready to be a every down back. Is a good pick and if westbook stays healthy and gets his speed back its a greatttt pick for the niners.

This is a huge move. At first I was totally against it, but that was only looking at it from an on the field point of view. The Niners don’t have any offensive veterans of substance. You look at the last few Super Bowl teams, they all have a solid veteran skill player. Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, Hines Ward, Kurt Warner, even all the way back to Jerome Bettis. A veteran skill guy like Westbrook can really help this team with the little things. I don’t think he will help much in the offense its self though.

Makes sense. He was in talks with the Rams, but now that SF is short an RB because of Coffee quitting, he’s heading west. SF is closer to bigger things than the Rams are.

I think its a shame Westbrook isn’t hanging it up. Another bad concussion and he’ll have trouble remembering his own name or what he had for breakfast. So much for the league having an increased emphasis on the effects of concussions.
He should take the millions he’s already made and enjoy life, not destroy what’s left of his brain.
