NBC/PFT relationship keeps chugging along

It’s the 14th month of our partnership with NBC, and so far it has been better than great for us.

The best part is that it’s been good for NBC, too, which hopefully means we won’t soon be taking a peacock beak to the buttocks.

Eric Fisher of SportsBusiness Journal explains that NBCSports.com will soon be relaunching, with each major sport’s coverage originating from a PFT-style storm of news, rumors, and analysis.

Buttons for each of the various properties appear above.  So if you must follow sports other than pro football, we ask that you do so via the collection of sites under the NBC umbrella.

    There. I fixed it.

So… PFT is going to close?

Nice business model: 95 percent regurgitating of others’ reporting (with “analysis” thrown in), and 5 percent original reporting from unnamed sources.

lil flo…don’t pull one of your few muscles patting yourself on the back

Hey Drudge is probably the biggest conservative news site with a similar business model. Eaching making the big time

Hey at least you pulled NBC down to your level. But their political reporting is already based on your model. Well other than the fact that some of the stuff on PFT is true.

I’m not sure why everyone hates on this site. This site is what it is. If you are looking for in-depth analysis, go to the local newspaper(s) of each team. If you are looking for a convenient, one stop shop that pulls news for all 32 teams, this place is great. Your complaining of this website is the equivalent of some tool bag complaining that their McDonald’s hamburger is made of poor quality. No crap. McDonald’s is known for convenience, not quality. It’s not like Florio and Co. falsely advertised this website and changed its style in the middle of the night. This website has dished out the same news variety since its establishment.
    Translation: stop whining.

I hope this doesn’t lead to a Football Night in America segment just for Florio. How sickening.

  10. LuvThatDirtyWatah says: Aug 16, 2010 3:44 PM

Congrats Mike. I hope you cashed in big time.

95 percent regurgitating and attempting to be witty, 5 percent speculating wildly

The real question is: Is Taco Bill going to be involved?

I, for one, welcome our new Florioverlords.

    next up:
    out-sourcing/off-shoring.
I bet we’ll love those articles written by Sri Lankans or Malaysians…
(perhaps they will have the discipline to *read* their complete work — to see if it has mistakes that are not caught by spell check)

Florio how many flavors do you come in?

  17. Sociofan says: Aug 16, 2010 4:01 PM

    Oh dear god…
Here is a sampling from the new ProHockeyTalk.com:
–Sidney Crosby has secret love child with Courtney Love. Fans accept and embrace toddler with IQ of 432
–Evgeni Malkin’s Man Crush on Alexander Ovechkin
–Marc-Andre Fleury’s 51 Losses this Season Not Really His Fault
–Oh Yeah, There Are 29 Other Teams in the NHL…Here are a Few Bones

Now baseball fans can read terrible opinions, false rumors and awful writing.

  19. dunkingonuts says: Aug 16, 2010 4:18 PM

I think the best part of this site ended with the dissapearence of Taco Bill…!

  20. TFormation says: Aug 16, 2010 4:21 PM

I’ll tell you the worst that PFT gets out of this deal. It has to use MSNBC’s video player. The thing is a clunky abortion.
If you’re going to do video, do it right. Jump to some other video player that doesn’t suck.

  21. 23 says: Aug 16, 2010 4:30 PM

It really IS better to be lucky than good …
Don’t let it go to your (already oversized) head.
Here’s something that might never be said again: “Local West Virginia attorney that DOESN’T go by 2 first names” … well, I guess we could stop right there, couldn’t we ?

  22. BenRapistberger says: Aug 16, 2010 4:40 PM

I still check this site hourly, but it really has gone down hill drastically.
Too many useless stories designed to generate hits instead of useful information.

  23. JSpicoli says: Aug 16, 2010 4:45 PM

PBBTalk said you don’t know what you are talking about Florio and that baseball is America’s pastime.

Hell yeah! BRING BACK TACO BILL!

    Mr. Florio,
Congratulations on the amazing success your site has enjoyed. I am here several times a day and really enjoy your style of writing.

this best part about this site are the comments
its a love/hate relationship with Florio

  27. TryTheVeal says: Aug 16, 2010 6:49 PM

Taco Bill was a big part of this site, and that stuff was funny as hell, but then Florio sold out to NBC, which airs NFL games, and no way the suits at Rockafeller Center were going to let an image of say, Ricky Williams with a can of Weed Be Gone be on one of their information vessels. Don’t get your hopes up, Taco Bill is gone from PFT forever.

  28. comment_submission_error says: Aug 16, 2010 9:46 PM

Did NBC tell you to lay off the Seinfeld references in addition to Quarterback of the Future? Haven’t seen a reference to either in 14 months or so.

  29. runtheball says: Aug 17, 2010 1:47 PM

Kudos to the delivery platform that you developed, but most of your analysis is moronic at best. You should have a behind the scenes role managing qualified writers who follow the game closer and know what they are talking about.
