New Meadowlands Stadium still ironing out the kinks

Eli Manning’s bloody forehead wasn’t the only mess at the opening of the New Meadowlands Stadium on Monday night.

A false fire alarm went off, forcing the Giants to flash a message to disregard it.  That seemed to affect the P.A. system, which was knocked out for a lengthy period in the first half.

Vinny DiTrani, a longtime Bergen Record writer that the Giants honored back in April at the NFL Draft, was not amused, calling the stadium a “$1.6 billion piece of junk.”  (No more draft picks for you, Vinny!)

That assessment seems a little harsh, although there are still kinks to work out.  Early in the evening, the ESPN cameras showed a Giants fan push Jets superfan Fireman Ed off his spot, temporarily delaying the J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets chant.

We’ve got a feeling there are plenty of Jets fans out there that have always wanted to do the exact same thing anyway.

What the heck, Gregg? If these Jets fans exist, I have yet to meet them. We love our man!

Jets want to take this 50% ownership thing so seriously, they can take half credit for this. Maybe the maintenance crew is Just making sure it works when the real home team comes to play.

Nice to see the field goal kicker.
Looks like a potential division loser

Just wait until the wintertime and huge chunks of ice start start falling from those huge metal fins and kill a few people…….

Watching that drunk ass Giants fan piss off Fireman Freddy or whatever was HILARIOUS!
Gotta give credit where it’s due…jets offense looked pretty good after sanchez forced that pick. They did keep their starters in way too long against the Giants’ backups though, I think they tried that strategy against Indy and Cincy at the end of last year and it worked out pretty well right??
1 QUARTER AWAY FROM SUPER BOWL hahaahahahaha

I have nothing against Fireman Ed. I even support his right to marry, even if the state of NY does not.

I didn’t know Vinny DiTrani was such an expert on the intricacies of fire alarm / public address system coordination.

Rosenthal get a clue huh? Fireman Ed is an icon for the NY Jets and all Jet fans. I was glad that Ed held back and didn’t deck the idiot Giant fan LOSER, but then again if he would have decked him it would have been cool too!
Rosenthal are you really that dumb????? Dumbest comment ever.

Watching Fireman Ed get tossed from his spot was hilarious!! The Jets and their fans all suck. They all suffer from an inferiority complex which is rooted from the fact that the Giants are the more popular and better team in NY. Then there’s the Patriots who with regularity hand the Jets a smackdown. I realize there’s a game here and there where the Jets get lucky but for the most part over the years the Patriots kick their ass. The Jets won’t win the Super Bowl, won’t even make the playoffs, and watching the frustration of it all and the collapse will be GREAT.
I’ll have to say the new Giants’ Stadium did look nice.

WELL DONE! About time to retire that fool. I’m sure many would have liked the opportunity to shut up that stupid moronic chant. Too bad jet fans can’t spell/understand more than 4 letters…

Better hope Revis comes back sooner rather then later. Sanchez is about three years away from a SB.

The NY fans just living up to the stereotype.

  17. Bigbluefan says: Aug 17, 2010 8:24 AM

    Ahh
Now that the game has been played and the jets did do what ever it took to try to win they are once again and forever the stepchild to the GIANTS
What do you say to that REX welcome to the new Giants Stadium

  18. ampats says: Aug 17, 2010 9:05 AM

It was hilarious watching Fire Hydrant Ed essentially get his butt kicked.
He backed down like a little girl to that Giants fan and all the cameras caught the action. He stood there and did nothing as that idiot kept him from making the calling call for the losers.

I was at the game and the place does suck. Plenty of concrete and not enough useful open space. Television screens in the concourse showing adds instead of the game.
I was 3rd on line and waited 15 minutes to find out that they were sold out of BBQ sandwiches (in the 2nd quarter) so I settled for a hot dog only to find that there was no mustard in the container.
Two of my friends also had concession problems as it appeared the staff had been assembled that morning.
The layout of the stadium in general is terrible, but the layout of the bathroom I used was ridiculous. It’s like they never saw the bathrooms at Yankee Stadium.
Lincoln Financial is 1000x better than this place and it seems fitting it was plopped down next to that eyesore Xanadau.

I am a Giants fan and would like to beat the $##$@ out of the little $#@$! who tried to push Fireman Ed out of his spot. Ed is a legend and deserves respect. That kid should be stripped of his Giants uniform and forced to become a Rams or Seahawks fan for 3 years, then he can grovel his way back to Giants fandom.

“Gotta give credit where it’s due…jets offense looked pretty good after sanchez forced that pick.”
How many of the Giants starters were out? One of the talking heads said that 12 players were injured but they didn’t say what positions (other than TE).
I guess 1.6 billion just doesn’t get what it used to.

That would have been funny. Watching him reach up to punch the guy in the nutz.

Hate to tell you, but it’s not ADD. Maybe a shortage of oxygen to the brain from laughing so darn hard last night watching the Keystone Jests. And I don’t do any type of man-made drugs. Sorry.
