Eli Manning’s bloody forehead wasn’t the only mess at the opening of the New Meadowlands Stadium on Monday night.
A false fire alarm went off, forcing the Giants to flash a message to disregard it. That seemed to affect the P.A. system, which was knocked out for a lengthy period in the first half.
Vinny DiTrani, a longtime Bergen Record writer that the Giants honored back in April at the NFL Draft, was not amused, calling the stadium a “$1.6 billion piece of junk.” (No more draft picks for you, Vinny!)
That assessment seems a little harsh, although there are still kinks to work out. Early in the evening, the ESPN cameras showed a Giants fan push Jets superfan Fireman Ed off his spot, temporarily delaying the J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets chant.
We’ve got a feeling there are plenty of Jets fans out there that have always wanted to do the exact same thing anyway.
