Niners ship Kentwan Balmer to Seattle

Earlier this year, the Eagles made waves among their fans by trading a franchise quarterback in the division.  The 49ers decision to ship AWOL defensive tackle Kentwan Balmer within the NFC West likely will be met locally with cheers.

Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee reports that the Niners have sent Balmer, a first-round pick in 2008, to the Seahawks

Terms aren’t yet known; we suspect that the question is whether Seattle sent a full case of beer to San Fran, or whether a can or two is empty.

It’s unknown whether Balmer will show up in Seattle, but it’s safe to assume that the team secured an indication that Balmer won’t continue to stay away.

If he does, the Seahawks will have the ability to pursue up to $960,000 in bonus money paid by the 49ers.

The Seattle connection makes sense.  Former Niners G.M. Scot McCloughan drafted Balmer in round one two years ago, and McCloughan now works in the Seahawks’ front office.

I have to wonder if this whole thing wasn’t orchestrated by Mr. Drunkie, McCloughan, in order to get Balmer to Seattle… I wouldn’t put it past his alcohol addled brain…

Yeah but you still have not been able to report to us WTF happenned.

With the current tide and wind conditions, the barge carrying Balmer should dock in Seattle sometime around 6PM Pacific time.

Seriously, I can’t believe any team would give up anything at all for this guy.

well singletary, has been an inconsistent coach.
    A. He promised them play-offs, couldn’t come thru
    B. Drafted Balmer, now he is no longer on the team, and wasnt’ he suppose to be a guy who gets “everything out of playerss” sounds liek BS.
    C. OOH my favorite he drops pants in locker rooms.
    D. Players are leaving the 9ers, like the fish are leaving the waters of the gulf.
Another 7-9 season.. here we come.

    LOL, nice.
The real question should be if the ‘hawks sent the Niners MGD’s or O’Douls. I’m guessing the latter.

  7. Jack Acid says: Aug 16, 2010 12:11 PM

    Good riddance.
Balmer might end up being an OK DE for a 4-3, but he never cracked the Niners starting lineup and never had an impact when he played.
Then heap on him complaining about his position on the depth chart and it’s no wonder Singletary said “screw it” and shipped him while the getting was good.

  8. FinFan68 says: Aug 16, 2010 12:25 PM

Seattle could actually recoup money that was given to him by the 49′ers? Maybe that’s the plan because it sounds like this guy has some issues

  9. raiderrob21 says: Aug 16, 2010 12:28 PM

Another wasted 1st round pick for the 49ers! Alex Smith will be the next to crawl outta Candlecrap!

  10. Jack Acid says: Aug 16, 2010 12:28 PM

    @sergep
Singletary didn’t draft Balmer, Nolan did. And you’ll hard pressed to find a any Niner fan who was happy about it at the time.
He’s never performed up to standards of a first round pick, yet complained he should be higher on the depth chart. I guess the term “proving it on the field” escaped him.
The only person responsible for Balmer not being there anymore is Kentwan Balmer.

  11. Tinbender says: Aug 16, 2010 12:31 PM

Singletary did say he wants players who can play. You can’t play if you don’t even bother to show up. What’s up with the rash of players who sign contracts for big money (it’s all big money to me), then are too lazy to earn it? Seems like an epidemic.

Not even…PBR (Pabst Blue Ribbon) or Old Milwaukee…whichever is on sale at $9.99 for a two-four. MGD/O’Douls is WAAAAAAAAYYYYYYY too good for him…

  13. timothy says: Aug 16, 2010 12:35 PM

It seems that when they sign these contracts that pay them more than the GNP of some countries they suddenly decide it was they who offered a contract to the owners not the other way around. I would love to see them terminated for violation of contract and not allowed to burden any other owners with their immaturity. SIGN A CONTRACT, HONOR IT!

  14. deemak says: Aug 16, 2010 12:40 PM

Sergep Singletary must have stuffed you into a trash can in high school or something. I can’t figure out any other explanation for your idiotic statements!!

    Two observations:
    1) How bad is Seattle’s defensive line?
    2) McCloughan has a great track record with Seattle/SF trades. See Darrell Jackson. This is payback

what up with the niners,,,,coffee retires, and now this guy does not want to play in sf either….gotta wonder if singletary is a bit to intense for some players.

    –>He coached one year

–> He did not draft Balmer he was not even Head Coach when he was picked.
    C. OOH my favorite he drops pants in locker rooms.
    –> really?
    D. Players are leaving the 9ers, like the fish are leaving the waters of the gulf.
    –> Stop talking please

Wow…..Nolan and mcloughlan drafted balmer….not sing. in fact sing’s/baalke’s first draft class looks very promising.

  19. BigBear123 says: Aug 16, 2010 12:52 PM

No mention of possible tampering charges?
Is your East Coast bias so bad West Coast teams do not deserve your scrutiny?
    Seems pretty fishy.

Idk about Balmer. Never liked him coming out of college anyway, but Singletary IS NOT a good coach. Idk why the media loves the guy.

  21. StevieMo says: Aug 16, 2010 1:52 PM

Another great #1 draft pick by SF….

  22. TFormation says: Aug 16, 2010 1:59 PM

LDIC, the media loves him for the same reason they love Rex Ryan- HE’S LIKEABLE. Also, passionate. He makes for great copy & great TV. Samurai Mike is still doing radio commercials in the Chicago area. Think about that: a head coach from another team is still popular enough to do endorsements in a town he played for 20+ years ago. We love him here.
Having said that, Rex has a couple playoff wins to back up that likeability/passion, of course…

    1. Coffee said he/god are tight. After Dixon’s performance v. Colts, tend to believe god told Coffee “He’s better than you. Give it up.”
    2. Balmer liked R1 pick, liked new team, didn’t like competing, couldn’t crack the lineup.
    3. If Sing were any more in-tense, he’d be pluperfect.

  24. RickS4o8 says: Aug 16, 2010 2:18 PM

Thank goodness that waste of time gets shipped up north to the graveyard of Seattle. We drafted this shmuck instead of drafting DeSean Jackson!!! Its going to be fun to watch Seattle get hammered by Gore again this year and again next year and then again by Anthony Dixon when its his time to shine.

  25. Marvin49 says: Aug 16, 2010 3:46 PM

    @raiderrob21
Really? A Raider fan criticizing ANY teams first round picks? Really?
Um….Patrick Willis, Vernon Davis, Michael Crabtree, Joe Staley…..
….can you name ANY Raider 1st round picks over that same time frame that are as good as ANY of those 4?

  26. granadafan says: Aug 16, 2010 4:25 PM

LOL at the Raider fans attempting to bash the Niners for THEIR draft picks. No one can touch the ineptitude of Al’s picks. Oops, sorry for the multi-syllable words for you Raider fans. My bad. I’ll dumb it down for you, so even you can understand it: You Raiders are bad- Jamarcus. 49ers are not as bad – Balmer?

  27. 1nationraidernation says: Aug 16, 2010 9:20 PM

    Hey Marvin49
how about Balmer, Smith Woods, and Rump. I could add Andre Carter, and Julian Petersen who took the first bus they could, but nothing as bad as coffee, and balmer….

TERRIBLE! – Holmgren ignored it as long as I can remember. This is why we CANNOT stop the run.
    2) McCloughan has a great track record with Seattle/SF trades. See Darrell Jackson. This is payback.
LOL! I actually forgot about this. It even was scrutinized by a lot of Seahawk fans. We ended up stocking up like 11 WRs a year after that.
@ all 9er and Card fans: You shouldn’t have much to worry about the next 3-4 years. It’ll be a 50-50 shot to win the Division.
Paul Allen must be dazzled by salesmen and flashy lights!
