Niners ship Kentwan Balmer to Seattle

Earlier this year, the Eagles made waves among their fans by trading a franchise quarterback in the division. The 49ers decision to ship AWOL defensive tackle Kentwan Balmer within the NFC West likely will be met locally with cheers.

Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee reports that the Niners have sent Balmer, a first-round pick in 2008, to the Seahawks.

Terms aren’t yet known; we suspect that the question is whether Seattle sent a full case of beer to San Fran, or whether a can or two is empty.

It’s unknown whether Balmer will show up in Seattle, but it’s safe to assume that the team secured an indication that Balmer won’t continue to stay away.

If he does, the Seahawks will have the ability to pursue up to $960,000 in bonus money paid by the 49ers.

The Seattle connection makes sense. Former Niners G.M. Scot McCloughan drafted Balmer in round one two years ago, and McCloughan now works in the Seahawks’ front office.
