Brett Favre finally makes up his mind

There’s just something about August 17th that Brett Favre must like.  (Either that, or Jared Allen did a great job tying Favre up.)

Exactly one year from the day Brad Childress first chauffeured Favre to the Minnesota Vikings facility, there are multiple indications that Favre has finally decided to return to the team for the 2010 season.

Scott Hanson of NFL Network reports that Favre is on a jet heading north to Minnesota.  We haven’t confirmed that news, but we can repeat an email sent out from Brett Favre’s official website.  The email says:

“Stay tuned for breaking news from the Minnesota Vikings today on Brett Favre’s
possible return. Visit the Vikings.com and Officialbrettfavre.com for more
information.”

Was there ever any doubt?

UPDATE: The Minneapolis Star-Tribune confirms Favre is on a flight to Minnesota.  Although this gives him extra time to change his mind.

UPDATE II: Jay Glazer of FOX reports that Favre told the trio of Vikings who came to persuade him to return that he is “back in” and he’s on a plane to Minnesota now.  Glazer notes Favre hasn’t told the team anything yet and could always change his mind.

You’re doing it wrong. We need tail numbers so we can track the flight from the moment it leaves Hattiesburg! It the whole slow motion drama we want!

Even if he does return, it doesn’t make their attempts any less pathetic or change the fact that the Vikings were forced to beg him to return.

He’s just a kid out there having fun, singing Pants On The Ground, and playing for the love of the game.
I hope he breaks his leg in a fashion where the Joe Theismann injury would look like a paper cut.

No … not until some wackadoodle reporters started claiming he was texting teammates saying, “Thhhat’s all folks.” (Funny how no one ever confirmed receiving one of those messages.) Favre eventually showing up in MN ready to play the 2010 season was fully expected from the minute he threw the INT in the championship game.

  38. FavreBlows says: Aug 17, 2010 3:11 PM

  39. purpleman527 says: Aug 17, 2010 3:12 PM

Given the circumstances from last year, when Favre stated he was retired and then rode in like OJ to play, how does the media have any credibility about saying, “they convinced Favre to return this year”?
Why don’t “reporters” just report the truth. Favre was going to return, but didn’t want to go to training camp.
    That’s it.

Don’t you think he could just say chilly I’m in but I’ll report when I want to, thus ending all this crap. Then again I wouldn’t be suprised if ole bus cook has a sweetheart deal for Brett with ESPN. They tell him to play the will he won’t he act up and then dumb ole brett get’s some % of sportscenter ad revenue from 7/15 till 8/17 since there’s nothing else to report during that time.

I know many Viking fans were hoping he wouldn’t come back. Bad news for them, but at the same time he’s a much better option at QB than Jackson or a rookie wideout.
Favre obviously won’t last the year. He’s 41, and nearly every defender in the league is gunning for him. So, the Vikings chances really depend on how far into the season they get before he goes down.

  79. FidoMcCokefiend says: Aug 17, 2010 3:33 PM

So, to be clear Viking Fan…
You are pinning your hopes and dreams on a QB that has gone 4-7 in the playoffs since SB XXXII. Games that include a 6 INT puke job vs the St Louis Rams. A 4 INT puke job vs Minnesota. A game he single handedly threw away by throwing a horrendous INT against the Eagles in OT. Yet another game he single handedly threw away by throwing a horrendous INT against the Giants in OT in the NFCC. And finally a 3rd playoff game in which he murdered his team with an INT that a 14 year knows not to throw.
Good luck with that Viking fans. I anxiously await the YouTube videos of you goofs freaking out when Favre ruins your season once again.

  80. jrmbadger says: Aug 17, 2010 3:33 PM

  81. murray22 says: Aug 17, 2010 3:33 PM

Sweet. Favre was coming back anyway. The Vikes just sent 3 white players down as escorts to show the world that his teammates love him. (I doubt they all do). I can’t wait for Favre to get gunned down. That’s the way it is for all old gunslingers, whether it’s John Wayne in The Shootist or Dan Marino in his last season as a Dolphin. Favre is done, but he can’t quit. He might play well again this year, but he can’t play any better than last year and he still didn’t get the job done. He will always be the guy that forces the ball into coverage at the wrong time. It’s just a matter of time. Tick tock, Vikings fans. Tick tock.

Really idiot? You’re probably right, Favre has a history of getting injured and missing games, right? And we all saw how he broke down and missed games last year at 40.

    Just a wee bit ironic…

Farve is a self-centered egotistical person. He has been playing with the careers and lives of people for years now with this sort of display. While other people are busting thier butts in training camp he is sitting home being a drama queen and then shows up at the last minute. There is a great deal of attention paid to rookie salaries as there should be but I also believe that Favre represents the entitlement behavior that spawns rookie arrogance as well as people like Albert Haynesworth. Farve has done a lot of great things in his career on the field however his attitude and the way he handles things shows that in the NFL working hard and paying your dues means nothing because after all that a veteran can hold out come in take your spot and your work mean nothing. The only other possible reason for this is that Brett’s wife is just as sick of him as most of the world and everytime he retires she does whatever it takes to get him gone for at least 16 weeks.

  104. justinluey says: Aug 17, 2010 3:51 PM

Wow. All you closeted Packers fans still have it bad.
I can see why Favre’s off-field antics rub people the wrong way, but these predictions of on field failure are hilarious. You clowns said the same thing last year and he was great.
It’s easy to blame the whole season on Favre because of the interception, but in reality, he’s the reason they were in control of that game.
You want someone to blame? How about Peterson for fumbling the ball all game long, or the coachin staff for taking them out of field goal range. Favre had to get them some yards to even attempt a game winning field goal.

All the haters are just worried, because Favre makes the Vikings the best team in the league. Katrina was the reason they didn’t beat the Saints – check the OT officiating and late hits, etc. That’s obvious. What I can’t understand is all the hate…a jerk like LeBron deserves hate, but Favre is 41 and has earned his respect. He wasn’t a spoiled brat as a teenager like LeBron and so many others. All you haters, especially anti-Favre Packer fans, can do now is PRAY again (while your team is sitting at home finished) that a fluke happens to keep the Vikings out of the Super Bowl

Brett Favre is one of the few athletes that could act like this and I would NOT call it ego. I’m sorry, but the same reason fans love Brett Favre (his passion and love of the game) are the same things that keep him doing this every year. He knows physically he should retire but, he loves the game so much he just can’t bear the thought of quitting. I respect that and if you want to be mad and blame someone’s ego, blame the news. They are the one’s that blow it up. Brett’s chilling on a farm in the middle of freaking nowhere. He’s not holding personal press conferences (Lebron), he’s living life trying to make a decision.
I can see how people call it an “ego” thing but in his case I completely disagree.

Cheese Soup is right…..the guy is 41….and has more meltdowns the past ten years than anyone can remember. He will not be nearly as fortunate this year.

Amen Brother. I feel the same. I love Favre, as a Packer fan he is my favorite athlete of all time. But I have said my goodbyes as of two years ago. I hope he gets crushed by either Barnett or Raji this year. And it will more than justify a Packer’s division win with him at the helm again for the Vikes. BF haters can say what they want but listen to any of the experts and they are unanimous in their agreement that if healthy, BF is great for the NFL. He will arguably go down as one of the greatest QB’s to ever play the game and his ironman record of consecutive games is the most important in my opinion. The NFL doesn’t have enough BF’s. All the players are greedy and want the money, BF is no different in that regard but his record of consecutive games is proof that he doesn’t take the money and then sit out 4wks with a hangnail like so many others.

Cheese Soup is right…..the guy is 41….and has more meltdowns the past ten years than anyone can remember. He will not be nearly as fortunate this year.
TT looks like the genius now and the Packers organization looks like a classy outfit…..while the Vikings look like a bunch of a$$-kissers who sold their souls to the devil.
    _____________
Really? Could you even finish posting that with a straight face? Classy outfit. The team that was voted 3rd worst team to play for, by players, in the NFL. The team whose starting defensive end is suspended for the year? The team letting statutory rapists into their HOF? Yeah, classy.
You’re right though, TT sure looks like a genius. His team is 17-15 since he booted Favre, and hasn’t won a playoff game.
As for Favre “melting down” or not being as fortunate this year, that’s the same thing you same idiots said last year, right before he torched your boys for 7 TD’s and 2 W’s. Don’t you ever get tired of throwing shit against the wall in hopes that just some of it sticks? What a sad existence.

So many bitter fans. You can just tell everyone is afraid now of the Vikes. This is a 12-4 team returning almost every starter from last years NFCC and you all are calling them a 10-6 / 9-7 team? What did the Vikes do to Romo and the Cowboys in the playoffs? What were NO’s offensive stats of their game? Some of you need to quit posting your hatred as fact. We get it, you all love commenting on the Vikings stories that’s why they are always in top 10 commented. Keep reading, keep hating, keep commenting. Won’t change the fact that the Vikes are arguably the top team in the NFC. Keep on hating cause come playoffs you’ll all be watching the Vikes while your teams are working on their handicap.

They are content to let him walk all over them. Chilly has zero respect in his locker room because all the players know this is Favre’s team.

An indication of how pathetic of a team and organization they have been since joining the league and their Crown Jewel on their Ring of Honor is a Packer cast-off.

It’s a terrible shame that he thinks he can still compete in a young mans game and his mind says “GO” but his body says “NO”. Brett Favre and the Packers won the Super Bowl in 96 (btw whens the last time the Vikings won….o shit my bad). Since then, he threw an interception against the Eagles in the divisional playoffs which is one of the worst throws i’ve ever seen, six int’s against the rams, played horribly in the 02 game vs the Falcons, 04 against the Vikings he threw 4 INT’s, 07 vs the Giants threw an INT which set up the game winning FG, and of course, your favorite, the NFCC from last year.
96 was fourteen years ago, since then, yes he chokes.

Some people clearly see only what they want to see. They are totally divorced from reality. Like those who hate Favre so much, and keep repeating over-and-over how Favre lost the Saints game. No, he didn’t. He played a good game, much better than Brees. He had 310 yards, and 2 int’s. But the first int was CLEARLY an illegal hit as Favre was throwing. How was his ankle the size of a grapefruit if the hit wasn’t low? Even Gregg Williams admitted it was an illegal cheap-shot. The Vikings should have had a 1st down at the Saints 20. The 2nd pick should NOT have been the Vikings last possession. The refs made 5 bad calls, 4 of which were absolutely terrible calls (1 non-call), all in the overtime period. THE REFS MADE SURE Favre didn’t get the ball again. If not for Katrina Payback, then what? Watch the overtime again if you don’t believe me. Of course the Favre haters won’t do that, I guarantee it.

Haha it’s funny how Puker fans are so upset about Favre returning and think that they will destroy Favre this year. It didn’t happen last year so why would it happen this year? Can you possibly name one player that you added that wasn’t on your roster last year that will make that big of an impact this year? NO. Puker fans say this every year, “We’re going to win the division this year,” but you get humiliated every year and it hasn’t happened the last 3 years. Honestly, stop getting your hopes up because your whole team isn’t as good as you think it is. Most of you Puker fans would get on your knees for Rodgers, but in reality, he can’t get a result in big games. 2 games against the Vikings last year- lost both, playoff game- lost off fumble. Oh what do you know, holding on to the ball too long. Oh yeah and your offensive line just gets older and older every year and you haven’t made any improvements to it. No Bulaga isn’t a huge upgrade.

I thought the 2nd year as a starter wouldn’t have to be stated, but just to clarify, HIS SECOND YEAR PLAYING.
    And statistically,
Aaron Rodgers – 350/541 (64.7%), 4,434 Yards (277avg), 30 TD’s, 7 Ints. Not to mention 5 rushing touchdowns, 316 yards, and a rating of 103.2. (Again, his fifth year in the league, second year playing, and he got sacked 50 times).
    Brett Favre – 363/531 (68.4%), 4202 Yards (262.6avg), 33 TD’s, 7 Int’s. 7 rushing yards, 0 touchdowns, and a rating of 107.2.
Favre brings drama, schisms, and distractions. Rodgers gets the job done. And the whole “Favre made it to the NFC Championship Game.” Rodgers threw for 423 yards, 4 TD’s, 1 INT, 66.7% and a rating of 121.4. It’s not his fault the defense gave up 51 points.
So, in closing, Rodgers, a 26 year old qb who is already one of the best in the league, had a season very statistically similar to the 40 year old who maybe has this year left.
Yea, i’d rather take Rodgers any day.

PFT, CNNSI, ESPN, and FOX SPORTS should all be thanking Favre! Did anyone else watch the coverage on ESPN, listen to sports radio, or go to any of the above websites today? Favre is the reason. NFL Live’s tape got thrown out and they actually had to go live. Favre coming back ruined ESPN’s day of television and they probably got the highest ratings since 2 weeks ago when Favre “sent” the text message. One thing the NFL is about above anything else is money! Favre is money. Pure and Simple. He does what he does without really caring about what anyone else thinks and everyone bites on every word. Personally I think it’s awesome!
Now he comes back and does what he does best. Did anyone think the NFC Championship game last year was better than the Super Bowl? I sure did. Even though I love the Vikings and I know the heartbreak I had when they lost, I still watched NFL replay. The Packers/Vikings games were both great!
Regardless of anyone’s opinion of Favre, everyone will watch him play whenever they get the chance and why not? You never know what you are going to get. A 49ers game last season that in usual cases I would’ve switched off, I kept watching because of Favre.
I am excited to have him playing for the Vikings for one more season. 10-6, 16-0, it doesn’t matter. He tore us up for years and every time we played the Packers with Favre as QB I would automatically check it as a loss. A-Rod, Cutler, Stafford, Manning, and Brady don’t put that fear in Vikings fans. If he would play for the Vikings until he’s 50, I wouldn’t care. You take the good with the bad and if he does eventually retire, he gave us one phenominal season. So while I don’t speak for every Vikings fan, I do speak for a lot of us. We are glad to have Favre back under center!

Let’s not forget he’s also the leader in these fine categories:
    Interceptions…(317)
    Career Playoff INT’s…(30)
    Career Playoff losses…(11)
He’s second in Career passing TD’s by one to Joe Montana….I’m going out on a limb and saying he doesn’t beat that one.
And this little tidbit. Favre is the only known player to be a grandfather while active in the NFL.
Good luck with this old bag, Twinkies. Which 3 players are going to take turns giving the old fart a spongebath…?

How many games did Favre play for the Pack when he was INJURED. How many games did the Pack lose because he played INJURED. Remember his damn thumb injury which the TV highlighted more than the game the Pack were losing. He really got pissed when they drafted Rogers. O

Packer fans run-their-mouths like no other fans, even before Favre went to the Vikings. Now it’s unbelievable! They are delusional. Most predicted 2 wins over the Vikings last year. Not a single one predicted 2 losses to Favre. NOT A SINGLE ONE. And this year it’s the exact same thing. Listen to them – they’re delusional. 2 more wins for Favre over the Packers is VERY likely this year.

    Whig,
Again, I didn’t fall off the boat yesterday. You have made up stories about your life and who you know and websites that are going to be funded for you. You wish you were black. All of this, all of the lies, made up personal things reeks of a man (sorta) that lives in fantasy land. One that wishes he was someone else. We have a guy here locally that lies about his life so much he believes himself. he claims to have been on National Championship NCAA teams, to have 4 million in the bank (yet works as a laborer) Try the game 2nd life. You would enjoy it. And you can have another regular season sweep because we all know what will happen in the playoffs. Super Bowl for GB within 2 years.

What happened, losing hope already. You had them in the Super Bowl last year, then predicted it for them this year. Now you’re saying within 2 years? You really starting to but into TT’s 30 year plan, aren’t you?

never had them in the Super Bowl and have said all summer they will win it all this year or next. Most likely next after a deep run this year. If they get the breaks????? Then who knows it could be this year.

    Super
You said last year you believed the Pack would win the NFC, and they went on to lose in the wild card round. You then backtracked, and said you meant that this would be their year. Now you’re putting it out possibly another year. I can’t wait for the inevitable Packer 8-8 finish, so we can hear you next year putting the Super Bowl another 2 years out.
