Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker said Monday that he wasn’t sure if he was traveling with the team to Atlanta, but coach Bill Belichick confirmed Tuesday morning that Welker did make the trip.
“Wes is here,” Belichick said while talking to reporters at the Falcons’ facilities.
The Patriots haven’t said whether Welker will play in Thursday night’s game against the Falcons, but the Patriots have been taking a cautious approach to his recovery from ACL surgery early this year, which would seem to suggest that Welker won’t play.
Welker will, however, participate in joint practices with the Falcons today and tomorrow, in another sign that he’s making progress in his recovery.
Belichick also commented on another veteran wide receiver, Torry Holt, who was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury. Asked if Holt would stick around with the team in any capacity, such as mentoring younger receivers, Belichick answered, “I don’t think so.”

Belechik was asked if Holt would stick around in some capacity, such as shuffling on the sidelines with his hands in the pockets of a hoodie, stifling yawns.
The Falcons will easily win more game than the Pats this year.
Holt won’t stick around with the team but he’ll gladly take his paycheck anyway.
The young players have performed and made this great veteran expendable. Once he was injured it was the end of the year in Foxboro for him.
Holt was a class act. He had a great career.
If they were going to bring in a former player to help coach up the young ones, Troy Brown would be the choice, not Holt who only had a few weeks in the Pat’s system.
If Edelman is healthy then there is no need to bother with Welker.
