Stafon Johnson after latest injury: "Why would I quit now?"

The Titans waived/injured former USC running back Stafon Johnson on Tuesday, but coach Jeff Fisher explained that Johnson will stay with the team and rehab his broken leg and ankle in Tennessee once he clears waivers and reverts to injured reserve.

Johnson made an improbable recovery from a near-fatal weightlighting accident last year and says this setback won’t crush his NFL dreams.

“I’ve made it this far. Everybody counted me out,” Johnson said on Tuesday. “In
three weeks or so, it will make a year that I should have been gone,
deceased and off this earth.”

Johnson says he can still be a dominant NFL running back and his faith will help him during his recover.

“For Him to bring me back and just let me to be eating on my own and
breathing on my own and eating and doing things like that. . . . Why would
I quit now?” Johnson said. “I can’t let down myself or everybody else.”

Running backs suffer ankle injuries all the time, bit more serious than normal but not career threatenting.

This is a story of a strong man. Stafon grew up in Compton, but that didn’t stop him from growing into an admirable young man. I hope that he does prove everybody wrong and makes it in the NFL.

Great words. This, my friends, is what separates winners from losers. Perseverance, determination, hard work, sacrifice. Here’s hoping he lands on a team somewhere and tears the league a new one.
