Tim Tebow misses practice with apparent rib injury

Former Packers third-round pick Abdul Hodge has finally achieved a measure of fame after four nondescript years in the NFL.

It appears Hodge, now with the Bengals, gave Tim Tebow his first NFL injury.

Tebow skipped sprints before both Broncos practice sessions on Wednesday.  After consulting with the team trainer before the afternoon practice, Tebow left for the locker room and didn’t return.  (Maybe he was busy signing autographs for Cincinnati media members.)

The Denver Post notes that Tebow has worn a flak jacket at practice this week, and they believe they pin-pointed the play in which Tebow was hurt.  (Hodge slammed Tebow, who bounced off Bengals safety Kyries Hebert.)

The injury doesn’t appear too serious, but Tebow only has until Saturday to recover before the next Broncos preseason game.  Commence magical healing powers jokes . . . now!

First “dive” play in the NFL, and he gets hurt. 20 “dive” plays a game at UF, and he doesn’t get hurt.
    Any questions?

Umm, does he normally NOT wear a flak jacket? If not, he’s an idiot. You can’t play QB in the NFL (or really any other serious level) and not wear one. They will target you and you’ll have broken ribs faster than you can say “hit me please”.

Wow. I don’t feel as bad about the Texans talent at safety any more.

I always liked Abdul Hodge when he was with the Packers.
Played his college ball at Iowa.
    Had injury problems.
Glad to see he is still in the league.

You People are all fools, why hate on tebow what has he done to you, if you don’t like him don’t watch him that simple. But to hate on a winner you must be loosers. He good selfesteam and all he has done is win..

  19. PirateFreedom says: Aug 18, 2010 9:09 PM

Only through the Rib of Tebow can a woman be fashioned fine enough for the anointed one.
The minor irritation of a removed rib will be more than made up for by the creation of Shebow.
Shebow won’t be a rush job like Eve was, she will Teworthy*.
    * be good enough for the man who made himself a successful underwear model for male virgins.

  20. Stone says: Aug 18, 2010 9:18 PM

So he can’t throw and his only other ability is rendered moot by secondary players smaller than he is injuring him? Yeah, good first round pick. Maybe they will make back the money in jersey sales.

  21. steveinohio says: Aug 18, 2010 9:27 PM

Tebow didn’t wear the flax jacket because of the rib, he just heard Kyle Orton owns a sniper rifle.

Hodge was a tackling machine in his first camp for about a week. He’s been hurt or playing with pain ever since. Played with Chad Greenway at Iowa. Some scouts thought he was as good.

Isn’t it funny how Tim Tebow has never said or done anything that should cause people to hate him. In fact, he’s been a model collegiate athlete (religious beliefs aside) and given only 100% at everything on and off the field. He invests his time in people other than himself, kids, prisons, etc etc. Yet somehow when he charges money for his autograph or hurts a rib he gets bashed by everyone. You and I may not believe everything that Tebow does, but to hear the bitterness you folks have for this guy makes me laugh.

It’s truly hard to believe after Jamarcus Russell, any fan from the Raiders would have ANYTHING to sat about another team’s QB.
Leaf & Russell are the 2 biggest NFL busts of all time. And I have any amount of money to wager that Tebow ends up a much better QB than what just got cut from the Raiders. Wow…you Raider fans have no shame…now you act as if Russell never existed…been gone like 3 month’s…what a joke!!!

Bo Jackson, Herschel Walker, Jack Youngblood, Reggie White, Steve Atwater, Emmitt Smith, Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, Ozzie Newsome, Kenny Stabler, Doug Atkins, John Henderson, Trace Armstrong, Joe Namath, Dan Reeves, Archie Manning, Y.A. Most of those are from the top of my head, I’m sure I’m forgetting others. You can debate which ones are better than the others, but none of them could really be called soft. I’m not including younger guys who haven’t proven to be one way or the other yet (i.e. Rolando McClain, M. Pouncey, Eric Berry, etc).

You do realize that Maurkice Pouncey is the favorite to start at center for the Steelers as a rookie, and he went to UF right?
And did you realize Mike Wallace went to an SEC school too?
Not to mention the 2009 offensive ROY was an SEC player…
    & the 2008 defensive ROY…
    & the 2007 defensive ROY…
    & the 2006 defensive ROY…

let’s not and say we did, i think all the jokes about him being the 2nd coming are stupid.
(“Isn’t it funny how Tim Tebow has never said or done anything that should cause people to hate him.”)
Agreed, hey, i will be the first to say that Tebow is overhyped, BUT at least he’s not a bad guy. i WANT Tebow to do well, however, i know he’s got ALOT of work to do.
(“It’s truly hard to believe after Jamarcus Russell, any fan from the Raiders would have ANYTHING to sat about another team’s QB.”)
agreed, Raiders fans need to not bash Tebow when they had a bigger bust, i dont care if Tebow does bust, he’s NEVER going to be as bad as Russell was. Number one pick, paid VERY well, sucked on the field, big bust. Tebow will at least try and work VERY hard, unlike JaMarcus.

  42. alan69 says: Aug 19, 2010 12:57 AM

    Welcome to the NFL Tebow!
With three seconds left in a stupid exhibition game, that was a stupid thing to do on Tebow’s part. He’s going to have to start thinking or he isn’t going to be a pro for long. He should have practiced his slide and avoid getting hit. To hell with the touchdown. He was acting like they were five points down in a playoff game at the end of the season. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Looks like shebow ain’t been praying to his lord enuff lately. His first ever preseason football game and he’s already injured. Ha Ha, i laugh in his and mcdaniels and the broncos face, Ha Ha. He can’t throw, he can’t run in any league that adults play in, so how is he a QB? What a joke! Geaux Saints!!

  50. Floriohatescincy says: Aug 19, 2010 10:20 AM

AJ, Hebert, 1. is a special teams BEAST, and two, he’s the fifth safety on the Bengals roster, keep an eye on him though, you guys apparently need some help there, Cincy doesn’t. Way to rep dummy.

  51. texasPHINSfan says: Aug 19, 2010 12:06 PM

It was a big hit, has nothing to do with being a “soft” player. Tebow was able to instantly get up while the defender was laying on the ground after the play. Tebow gets a bruised rib, defender gets a concussion. You tell me which is worse?
I’d even venture a guess as to say Tebow is probably one of the toughest QB’s in the league, if not the toughest (with a HUGE tip of the hat to Favre, of course).

  52. puhleezho says: Aug 19, 2010 12:40 PM

Unfortunately Timbo will take hits like this all the time in his first year. Bunch of no-names trying to be the one who puts a hurt on the “greatest college quarterback of all time”. And he aint got no GD sense to juke.

(“If I go to church I want to hear about Jesus. If I watch football I want to hear about football. I don’t want this charlatan Tebow telling me anything about his Lord and personal Savior period.”)
Tebow doesnt give a interview during a football game talking about Jesus, he might do it in a post game media conference, but not during the game.
(“In other news Eli can’t put a helmet on because he can’t get out of the way of his own running back”)
if you watch the play, it seemed like Jacobs and Manning werent on the same page, i think Manning changed the play and wanted to do a fade pass, but Jacobs thought he was getting the ball, BUT to take the hit that Manning took was brutal. I felt that hit at home.
