More details on Percy Harvin's collapse

It appears Percy Harvin’s latest episode with migraines, his first in front of his Vikings teammates, started when Harvin looked towards the sky for a punt.

Harvin retreated to the locker room, then returned to the sidelines to try to watch the rest of practice, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.  Harvin was seen vomiting and doubled over.  Teammates came over to him, but practiced continued for another six minutes.

“That one hit and it hit hard. Always scary for all of our guys when you see teammates struggling,” coach Brad Childress said.

Initially, Harvin wasn’t responsive and trembling.  Then he was described as responsive, but disoriented. An ambulance arrived and practice stopped, while players watched.  As the ambulance sat there, with Harvin inside, the Vikings resumed practice for ten minutes.

“Brett [Favre] made a mention.  Let’s get one period in here.  Let’s do something as opposed to go in,” Childress relayed, saying he was initially just going to end the practice.

(Umm . . . what?  Who is running practice?)

After the abbreviated practice, the Vikings then broke for conditioning.  We wish Harvin a speedy recovery.

“Who is running practice?”. With any luck for the Vikings, Favre is.

Oh, NOW Favre wants to play! Chump!

I’ve suffered from migraine headaches for ten years, and one of the triggers for some migraine suffers can be bright sunlight. Migraines are a horrible curse, bringing a debilitating pain that is completely incapacitating. Harvin has my deepest sympathies with his migraine problems.

Chilly, how dare you undermine Lord Brett! When he says let’s continue practice, practice continues!

  6. mnpacker says: Aug 19, 2010 3:39 PM

Who’s running practice?… the same person that’s running the team

  7. HighwayKiller says: Aug 19, 2010 3:42 PM

Now Brett is running the practice. Damn, Chilly is a great coach….

Paul Allen – “Brett Favre goes back to pass he pumps, now he fires over the middle. Intercepted, I can’t believe what I’m seeing right now. It was intercepted by Tracy Porter, near side to the 40 and John Sullivan runs him down at the 47 yard line. You’ve got to be kidding me, I can’t believe what I just saw.”
Other announcer – “Looking at that play he should have just held on to it Paul, he should’ve. He could’ve easily have gotten 5 or 6 yards if he would have just pulled that thing down and dove foreward.”
Paul Allen – “But why do you even ponder passing, I mean you can take a knee and try a 56 yard field goal. This is not Detroit man! This is the Super Bowl.”

I’m just waiting on you guy’s to report that “sources say” that Harvin’s actually unhappy with his contract and that this is his way to make the Vikings cough up some more dough. Or your other favorite–This is just an excuse and that he didn’t want to practice anymore. I’m sure it’s coming!

Everyone should have said F you Brett. We don’t need “extra” work. we’ve been here.

    was he later?
    Get well Percy ….

Brett’s such a good teammate and one of the guys for wanting to continue practice while a teammate is carted off the field.
We love him because he’s heartless just like we’d be heartless.

You are a tool. you actually cut and pasted that on like 9 different threads?
Evidently you can’t come up with anything on your own so you are reduced to that?

Ok….not joking or being sarcastic here. Did anyone hear of Harvin having this many (or any) problems with migraines while he played at Florida?

Chilly must not know anything about coaching offense – Its just a coincidence that Brett had his best year with him. Thats it.
As for that pass over the middle to end the Vikings season, I guarantee that wasnt Chillys idea.

Why didn’t Harvin have migraines when playing in sunlight at Florida but has them playing in Minnesota????

  23. Skeety says: Aug 19, 2010 4:39 PM

Rosenthal, trying to change the story and take things out of context. Not very classy, Mike should discipline you for such ignorance.

  24. aloud2judge says: Aug 19, 2010 4:42 PM

NFL just give him the exception already to smoke the devil’s lettuce. Clearly the weed helps to some capacity to alleviate the spats of these migraines.
Maybe he should just buy a cheap house in Cali and get his “green” card? What’s the big bad NFL gonna do then when he’s legally allowed to use for medical treatment?
p.s. I don’t know laws on out of state use but figured it’s worth a mention.

  25. Florida727 says: Aug 19, 2010 4:56 PM

Yes. He did have these at Florida. I want to say he missed an SEC championship game once because of them. I could be wrong, but yeah, he definitely had them at UF.

100% cloud over in Mpls today.

  27. eballa1 says: Aug 19, 2010 4:58 PM

I can see it now, the next time a Viking is hurt in a game, Favre’s going to go up to the ref and say lets go, let’s get some more plays in while his team mate is being carted off the field.

  28. jro330 says: Aug 19, 2010 5:00 PM

Trembling and unresponsiveness after seeing bright light… are we sure migraines are his problem? Or his only problem? The way this episode is described in the story, it sounds like epilepsy.

  29. CapsLockKey says: Aug 19, 2010 5:03 PM

Now I actually don’t blame the kid for smoking dope. Stuff probably actually helped him with those headaches. Didn’t Terrell Davis have migraine problems? Maybe he should call him up and get some advice.

  30. Gravy Makes Sconnies Fat says: Aug 19, 2010 5:07 PM

First announcer – “Aaron Rodgers drops back to pass. He must be rattled after missing that wide open receiver by 15 yards with what should have been the playoff game winning touchdown in overtime. Here comes the pressure, he’ll get rid of the ball – WAIT – he looks like he’s trying to PUNT!! AND HE DOES, RIGHT INTO KARLOS DANSBY’S HANDS! TOUCHDOWN CARDS!!!!”
Second announcer – “Was that the most retarded play you’ve ever seen in your life???? How do you just hand a playoff game to the other team like that???? And did you hear him shrieking like a little girl when the pressure came????”
First announcer – “What the hell was he doing???? This isn’t hackysack, this is the playoffs!!!!!!”

  31. murray22 says: Aug 19, 2010 5:11 PM

It sounds like he should be tested for epilepsy. That’s not funny.

  32. 55horses says: Aug 19, 2010 5:13 PM

Harvin has had migraines since he was 10 years old, according to numerous stories.
Hope Percy is okay. And hope the Mayo Clinic did a full battery for tick-borne illnesses, especially considering Percy lives and plays in Minnesota for part of the year. Tick-borne illnesses can greatly exacerbate migraines.
I really enjoyed watching Percy play last year. (I’m a Packer fan who picked Minnesota to win the SB last year. I am picking them to win the division this year as well and would do so even if Jackson was the QB. But I’m really concerned about Harvin.)
Poll: Yahoo Sports’ unnamed sources for the Favre doesn’t trust Chilly story:
    1. V. Shiancoe
    2. Ryan Longwell
    3. Darrell Bevell
    4. Ryan Cook
    5. John Sullivan

  33. steelers rule says: Aug 19, 2010 5:50 PM

If Harvin missed a game at Florida because of a migraine it was probabaly against New Mexico State!

  34. Mel Kiper IV says: Aug 20, 2010 1:57 AM

Migraine’s are stress related. It’s been proven. He needs to lighten up and get therapy. Otherwise, a wasted draft pick. A migraine is like a ulcer…only it’s in your head – both literally and figuratively.
