Ravens have taken calls about McGahee

Significant preseason trades are rare, but the Baltimore Sun reports there has been some level of interest in Ravens running back Willis McGahee.

The Ravens have “received some phone calls” although it’s unclear how serious the interest is.  We can’t imagine any team giving up more than a late-round pick for McGahee, because taking on his $3.6 million salary is costly enough.  Ravens G.M. Ozzie Newsome said he hasn’t spoken with the Broncos about their cornerbacks.

Moving McGahee goes counter to Baltimore’s Super Bowl push.  Why weaken the roster for a late-round pick?  The team would likely move Le’Ron McClain to the backup running back spot if McGahee left, with Jalen Parmele behind him.

Unless the Ravens got a useful cornerback in return that would help the team this year, a move doesn’t seem worth it for Baltimore this close to the season.

for a good corner yes, for a draft pick no…….. trust ozzie

McGahee should only be traded if we can get a top-caliber corner(which won’t happen). And if Rice goes down, we are in big trouble then.

I would suggest that you disregard this story. This came from Mike Preston who is not known for his accuracy. In general, he just writes things to stir the pot. I have said it once, and I will say it again, I would be shocked if the Ravens moved McGahee. I heard it directly from the mouth of Ozzie Newsome that he believes he cost the Ravens a Super Bowl in 2001 by not having an adequate backup for Jamal Lewis. While McClain is certainly better than anyone the Ravens had that season, I do not believe the Ravens are going to deal McGahee. This is just Preston trying to create a story.

McGahee will go nowhere. Nobody would be willing to offer a starting calibre CB, which is what it would take to make this trade happen.
If the Ravens trade a player.., it will be Troy Smith.

What????? Peep’s running game will be fine, they have Rolando McClain!!!

Baltimore fan – feel fortunate, Ozzie has built you a nice little franchise in that scum and disease infested city.. Trust the man, he won you a Super Bowl with Trent Dilfer, he can probably win you one without Willis McGhee..

  11. sguy2130 says: Aug 19, 2010 11:41 AM

The calls Ozzie is receiving are from McGahee’s Mom asking for more playing time.

  12. FinFan says: Aug 19, 2010 11:44 AM

Im still trying to figure out why miami let go of jalen?! We need a rb to replace williams when he retires they drafted him for that purpose, dunno

  13. Marcinik07 says: Aug 19, 2010 11:48 AM

Ozzie knows best. He’ll pull the trigger for the right price. It won’t be for just a draft pick, I know that.

  14. 7370355q$ says: Aug 19, 2010 12:21 PM

They’re not going to trade mcgahee for only a late round draft pick you turd (Rosenthal)! They won’t let him go without getting a 2nd or 3rd corner in return. Rosenthal you are the absolute worst at redirecting ravens articles to the general public when the trade demands have nothing to do about draft picks as it states it nowhere in the article. By the way preston isn’t the only one reporting this, jamison hensley and jason la canfora are as well.

He’s a nice sleeper pick for fantasy. Didn’t get much yards but did a lot of goal line work. Hope they don’t trade him.

  17. mac1515 says: Aug 19, 2010 12:51 PM

Should of taken a chance on Adam “make it rain”Jones, instead of Donte “Im fine to drive….” Stallworth!!!!!!

  18. ppdoc13 says: Aug 19, 2010 12:55 PM

Not going to happen unless it is for a starting caliber CB which is unlikely. Oz wouldn’t trade him for less than a 3rd rounder which we won’t get. There is no cap for this year so the money doesn’t matter. Ozzie learned his lesson when Jamal went down the year after the Superbowl. Since then he has had 2 quality backs here.
@blmonore12 – our scum and disease infested city would be much better if we could get your crack whore mother off North Avenue.

  19. ejtowne says: Aug 19, 2010 1:04 PM

We are currently hurting at running back in Buffalo with Jackson and Lynch out, but we would never take McGahee back. He is a whiney baby who was a cancer in Buffalo. He has no respect for anyone unless he is receiving something in return. He has also lost a big step in his running abilities.

You are correct sir. Ozzie has built a nice franchise in Baltimore. Yes he did win with Dilfer. Yes he can win with Willis. Although, I fail to see how a starting quarterback and a back up halfback make a good comparison, but sure whatever makes ya feel good.
As for your disparagin remarks about my home city, all I have to say is, “That ain’t no part of nothin’!” Now I’m gonna go home, grab my gibson and jam out on some cripple creek. The sad part is, that I won’t be able to stop thinking about what a douchebag you are.

    Ozzie,
    Trade
    Jared Gaither
    Willis Mcgahee
    Tavaras Gooden
    for
    Nndami Asomugha
    Darren McFadden
McFadden and Rice would be a nasty backfield.

  23. ch19079 says: Aug 19, 2010 1:28 PM

So hes too important to the Ravens to give up for a late round pick, but not important enough for another team to accept his 3 mil. a year salary.
3 mil a year is NOT going to stop a team from trading for him.

As a Steeler fan go ahead and trade him, but forget about a high profile CB

  28. Coach says: Aug 19, 2010 2:10 PM

Hey bmorervns, if that trade doesn’t work out maybe the Jets would be willing to part with Shonn Greene and Darrelle Revis…and I want some of that weed too.

  29. BlumpKings says: Aug 19, 2010 2:16 PM

How about McGahee to the Vikings for Lito Sheppard and Toby Gearhart?

  30. steeelfann says: Aug 19, 2010 2:20 PM

Maybe Willis can get the names of all of his illegitimate children tattooed down both of his arms as well.

You forgot to add a 2nd round pick from the Jets as well!
    LMFAO!

  32. brasho says: Aug 19, 2010 2:29 PM

Wow, an article that explores both sides of the story, no obvious spelling or grammar mistakes… Rosenthal, is your mother doing your homework for you?
The part I thought was best, was explaining why McGahee wasn’t worth much because his hefty salary is a big price to pay for him.

  33. Danwhitmer says: Aug 19, 2010 3:08 PM

I like McGahee, but no team would give up a 3rd rounder for him. I would say IF anything the Ravens would get a 5th and a 4th string CB. With Washington and Webb both getting healthy and most likely starting the regular season all we would need is depth. So I would take a 5th rounder and a 4th string CB for McGahee. I think that would be a fair trade for a team looking at him to start. He has 2 – 3 years in him as a starting RB IMO

  34. Katmanduu says: Aug 19, 2010 3:55 PM

Isn’t McGahee still sound asleep in the middle of Heinz Field (courtesy of Ryan Clark)? Or has the alarm clock gone off yet to wake his butt up??!?

  35. TheBeavssuck says: Aug 19, 2010 3:59 PM

Rosenhaus in talks with John Schneider as West Coast option for Willis. I hope McGahee likes Fresh Salmon. Pete will have a great backfield with Forsett, Washington, Jones and McGahee. Lets hope Willis pays for his Top Pot Donuts unlike a certain Golden Tate. Get out of that Humid crap hole McGahee,

  36. In & Out Burger says: Aug 19, 2010 4:03 PM

Yeah, there is ZERO reason to trade him. Unless you can do some sort of package deal where you trade Troy Smith and Willis to the Broncos for Champ. Or the Raiders for Nnamdi. Or the Jets for Revis (although I doubt they want either of the players you are offering).
Best to keep him and let him get 10+ TDs again for the most important reason of all, HE IS ON MY FANTASY TEAM!

  37. 7370355q$ says: Aug 19, 2010 4:04 PM

    @Katmandu
My guess is no, because he scored 14 tds last year.

  38. BroncosFan says: Aug 19, 2010 4:22 PM

I’d think the Browns. Hardesty can’t stay healthy, Mangini doesn’t seem to think Harrison can handle every-down duties, and I bet they still get warm fuzzies thinking about the two good seasons they managed to wring from Jamal Lewis they last time they grabbed a Ravens RB on the downside.
