Wideout Javon Walker hasn’t done much since leaving Green Bay after the 2005 season. And one of his best seasons came the prior year, when his quarterback was Brett Favre.
Now, the two men could be reunited in Minnesota. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Walker is working out for the Vikings.
The history between Favre and Walker includes some rough patches. When Walker was clamoring in 2005 for a Randy Moss-style contract, Favre made his position clear on the matter — he wanted Walker to get his ass in line.
“If Javon wants to know what his quarterback thinks, and I would think
he might, I’d tell him he’s going about this the wrong way,” Favre told
the Green Bay Press-Gazette after Walker skipped a post-draft minicamp. “When his agent tells him not to worry
about what his teammates think and all that stuff, I’d tell him I’ve
been around a long time and that stuff will come back to haunt you.” (Said the guy who hasn’t attended a minicamp or offseason workout of any kind since 2007.)
So Walker showed up, and he promptly tore an ACL in Week 1 while catching a ball thrown by Brett.
Though Walker might have some lingering animosity toward Favre, it’s not as if he has any options.
If signed, Walker would provide depth to a receiving corps that has been hampered by a hip injury to Sidney Rice and ongoing migraine struggles by Percy Harvin.
