Former Favre receiver could be joining the Vikings

Wideout Javon Walker hasn’t done much since leaving Green Bay after the 2005 season.  And one of his best seasons came the prior year, when his quarterback was Brett Favre.

Now, the two men could be reunited in Minnesota.  Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Walker is working out for the Vikings.

The history between Favre and Walker includes some rough patches.  When Walker was clamoring in 2005 for a Randy Moss-style contract, Favre made his position clear on the matter — he wanted Walker to get his ass in line.

“If Javon wants to know what his quarterback thinks, and I would think
he might, I’d tell him he’s going about this the wrong way,” Favre told
the Green Bay Press-Gazette after Walker skipped a post-draft minicamp.  “When his agent tells him not to worry
about what his teammates think and all that stuff, I’d tell him I’ve
been around a long time and that stuff will come back to haunt you.”  (Said the guy who hasn’t attended a minicamp or offseason workout of any kind since 2007.)

So Walker showed up, and he promptly tore an ACL in Week 1 while catching a ball thrown by Brett.

Though Walker might have some lingering animosity toward Favre, it’s not as if he has any options.

If signed, Walker would provide depth to a receiving corps that has been hampered by a hip injury to Sidney Rice and ongoing migraine struggles by Percy Harvin.

Favre said those things back when he was a light side Jedi.
He’s dark side now…doesn’t follow those rules of honor and honesty.
But seriously though, I think Florio messed up the quote…either that, or Favre learned his grammar from Asante Samuel.

  36. Hauschild says: Aug 20, 2010 2:52 PM

The shot at Brett is suspect because he made those comments BEFORE 2007, which you whine was the last year he’s been to an off season workout.
Also, you fail to draw an accurate comparison between Brett’s and Javon’s situations: Brett missed camp from 2007 and beyond because of recuperation from surgeries and/or to save his nearing 40-year-old body. Walker missed camp because he was greedy and didn’t want to wait until his contract was either renewed or restructured (this usually happens to those who are not confident in their abilities). I realize, these differences probably aren’t a big deal to anybody under the age of 35, but anybody with basic reasoning skills can figure out there is a world of difference between not attending training camp when you’re 40 years old and attempting to save your body, and refusing to honor your contract because you find yourself in the unique position of believing you are worth more than what you are being paid.
Shame on anybody who would even have the audacity to put these two situations on the same plane.

  48. SJ Apollo says: Aug 20, 2010 3:11 PM

Hauschild, last year Favre wasn’t under contract so we can let him off the hook, but he was under contract this year and he mysteriously shows up when training camp had ended – for the third year in a row. Lots of veterans get to save their body and practice less, but they at least show up so their team isn’t in limbo about their playing status. Favre knew his ankle needed surgery, just like he knew his arm needed surgery last year, and yet both years he timed the surgeries so that he could skip the mini-camps and training camp portions of the preseason. Favre’s a great football player, but he is a hypocritical douche.

    ___________________________________
I don’t recall anyone writing it was “classless.” And what would that even mean?? Who would give a shit anyway…? Would a Packer laden championship mean as much to you guys if another 3 or 4 more joined the team…? You know that the asterisk factor would always be there, in the back of your minds anyway. (Won’t matter….never getting there this year).
The fact that drama queen 4 may have lost one of his top weapons for part or most of the year, if not for good, just goes to show how far-removed you guys are from reality and how knocking on karma’s door with your purple horn can prove fatal. Predicting yourselves the next World Champs before the ageless wonderqueen has yet to throw a pass this season to any receivers older than 17 should have been enough to keep you concerned.
Wait until old man gimpy is limping around and the offense is down to simply handing the ball off to Adrian Fumbleson…good times.
If any of you think for one minute that Favre will have anywhere near the season he did last year….you’re kidding yourselves. This will be a 22 TD and 17 INT season….mostly from tipped passes because Lord Fart couldn’t get his timing down with the “pro game” versus Jimmy Senior High. How amazing it will be that he will come unglued bitching at receivers who had their rears in camp while he was getting his timing down with teenie boppers and lawn tractors.
He will struggle and so will the team.

You’re not grasping the point – not only did Favre have surgery a while back to remove bone spurs and recently found out he had a new spur since surgery (not only that, but he has pain in the ankle unlike his biceps surgery from last season where the pain eventually subsided – he was waiting for the pain in his ankle to subside like his arm, and eventually had to deal with the fact the pain would always be there.), but the situations of Favre’s the past few years and Javon Walker’s – when he needed more money – are completely different.

Okay this is getting ridiculous. Do the Vikings even have a team??? It is more like Packers rejects, Part Deux!
Please note how many former Viking players are on the Packers….

While you are at it, please note how many playoff wins the Packers have WITHOUT Viking players on their team.

I remember all the press at that time, was the first time BF had ever done anything like that. He was even mum back at the Chmura mess. He should have kept his mouth shut and to this day I wonder why he chose to start “opining” at that particular point. I know Javon was ALREADY miserable with organization, and hated the city of Green Bay, lamenting that there was nothing else to do there. He also had issues with the coaching or front office or something. I think he had just come off a dynamite season but was way short of contract ending.
Sad it ended that way. Javon was absolutely electric – I simply could not believe that somebody, somewhere inside that org, couldn’t have done something to amelioriate the situation.
I’d like to have been a fly on the wall today when they first spotted each other.

The Vikings may be located in Eden Prairie but Favre is certainly more suited for Edina. Every one knows that Edina is an acronym for: Every Day I Need Attention.

I’m thinking the Vikes need to sign Kittrick Taylor next….he caught the TD that launched Favre’s career, he might as well be part of the cosmically laughable end of it…

It’s funny to watch the vike fans have their meltdown here… Can’t wait to watch that first vike game of the season now!

goombar2 – meltdown? It seems to me that most of the comments on this or any article relating to the Vikings are Puker fans still acting butt-hurt over Favre signing with the Vikes last year. I can’t wait to watch the Vikes crush the Packers twice again and win the North again.

wow, classic projection. nobody hears any vike fans having any “meltdown”, only the packers and everybody else who finished below the vikes screaming angrily once again. if you hate finishing behind the vikes that much stop blaming the vikes for it and start blaming your g.m. for it.

“Nowadays you’re seeing more and more guys pulling that stunt,” Favre said. “If guys continue to do that and are successful getting away with it, then I’ll be gone, but I think the game will be ruined. My reaction to Javon’s situation was, ‘Here we go again.’
“Javon has tremendous potential. We got to see some of that last year. The sky’s the limit for that guy, and I’d be the first to defend him, but he’s going about it the wrong way. What happened to honoring your contract and saying, ‘Let’s work as a team to see if we can get this done?’ Why not go about it that way?
“Maybe I’m old-school, but I always thought you honor a contract. Sure, sometimes guys pass you up in salary, and maybe it’s a lesser player, but it’s all based on what a team has as far as value in that person. “I sure hope the Packers don’t give into him,” Favre said.

In other news Taco Wallace thinks Javon Walker sucks.
I was wondering when the Vikings would be giving ol’ Taco a call. Wallace may not have the notoriety of Walker, but he is an ex-Packer, has done at least as much in the last two years as “Mo’ Money” Walker and all the while has been able to keep his ego in check!

Whoa, dude, how dare you. I don’t remember that play happening. Brett Favre single handedly lost that game for the Packers, remember? That’s what every Packer fan says now that Favre is a Viking. He choked that game away all by himself, just like the NFCC game in’07, where Favre kept getting burned by Plax Burress and gave up 140+ yards to him in the first half, only to refuse to make adjustments on how to cover Plax. That’s how it went, everyone knows Favre is to blame for all of that.
4th and 26, that’s a funny joke, but it never happened. Just ask any Packer fan.

  101. fanof4 says: Aug 23, 2010 6:36 AM

Javon was thenext biggest alligator arm receiver next to that dude in philly. I was GLAD to see walker traded to denver. After javon left brett he did NOTHING. Brett made him a superstar (when he had an undefended catch, otherwise he usually gave it up to the defender).
In this case vikes would be better off with antonio freeman over JW, at least freeman would fight for a catch.
