The Bills reportedly had big plans for second year tight end Shawn Nelson this season, but the talented pass-catcher was oddly demoted behind third-year undrafted free agent Jonathan Stupor in recent practices.
Now we know why.
The NFL suspended Nelson four games for violating the league’s policy against Substance Abuse. This is a rare case where the confidentiality of the program worked; there hasn’t been a hint of trouble publicly in Nelson’s brief career.
Nelson reportedly hasn’t enjoyed a great training camp, but he was the odds-on favorite to start for Buffalo. Another tight end Derek Schouman is also currently hurt.
