Derrick Ward continues to have a rough preseason

We passed along word earlier this week that Bucs running back Derrick Ward could be at risk of losing his roster spot. The events of Saturday night won’t help his case.

Ward rushed for only 11 yards on five carries before leaving the game with a concussion. His competition for the team’s backup job, Kareem Huggins, gained 44 yards on eight carries, many of which came against the first-team Chiefs defense.

Huggins has become one of the big stories of Bucs camp. He’s not a big back, but he runs with power and breaks tackles. Ward isn’t making plays on his own and could be running out of time in Tampa.
