Haynesworth unloads on Shanahan

Just when the buzz from the Brett Favre unretirement (or whatever it was) has begun to fade, Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth has stepped up to provide some intrigue.

Per John Keim of the Washington Examiner, Haynesworth unloaded on coach Mike Shanahan during a press conference after Saturday night’s preseason loss to the Ravens.  Haynesworth isn’t happy that his absence from practice on Thursday was characterized as resulting from a “headache,” which came after two days that Haynesworth missed with symptoms of dehydration.

Haynesworth, who made quote marks with his fingers whenever saying the word “headache,” believes that Shanahan again is retaliating against the veteran defender for his decision to boycott the offseason program.  Asked why the team would understate his health condition, Haynesworth said, “I don’t know, but I guess to make themselves look good, make me look bad
for not going to their offseason conditioning program.  Next year I’m
not coming either.  I’ll be with my trainer again and I’ll get back in
the same shape I’m in and feel good about myself.”

The team 86′d the press conference after only 86 seconds.  We have a feeling that more will be coming.

I’ll take Haynesworth in Oakland. The guy comes with some baggage and you have to worry about his motivation, but when he’s playing hard he’s easily the most dominant d-lineman in the league.

I’m curious, when the so-called-genius Shanahan decided to make an example of him and drag out the conditioning test BS, what did he think would happen for the rest of the season? Haynesworth is a douche, no doubt, but the coach is paid to get the most out of his players, and he made a bad situation worse. Shanny might be “right” but “right” don’t win ball games folks.

  49. The Black Cat says: Aug 22, 2010 2:31 AM

Considering a player just collapsed and went to the hospital from headaches — and the league’s “born again” emphasis on concussions — are we saying that “headaches” are trivial and an example of downplaying a problem?

  52. Steve W. says: Aug 22, 2010 2:50 AM

Florio, you left out the part about Haynesworth whining about not playing with the starters and having to play in the second half with the backups. I don’t get his complaint on that part. It’s a new system, he wasn’t at OTAs or mini-camp, and he’s practiced how many days during training camp? Even that little bit of practice has been with the second stringers. So, why exactly does he think he should be a starter right now?

Dehydrated?, you can buy more than enough gatorade and water with that 100 Mil. Shanahan has more respect in the league than haynesworth and is not going anywhere. Fat Albert needs to shut his pie hole and show me something on the field. See Revis, you can thank him for not being able to get your deal you deserve.

Haynesworthless’ words and actions continue to show what an a##hole he is…and the huge mistake the ‘Skins made when they signed him. Talk about cancer in the locker room! They need to cut their losses and move on without this dirt bag. The ‘skins are moving in a positive direction with a new QB, new coaches, etc. They don’t need Albert’s BS. In a perfect world, they’d cut Albert loose and none of the other 31 teams would sign him. Haynesworthless represents everything that is wrong with many professional athletes.

  61. pt8106 says: Aug 22, 2010 8:03 AM

Better the Redskins than the Titans. A lot of Titans fans were up in arms when the Titans wouldn’t pay a ridiculous salary to keep him now they are vindicated. I say he’s getting what he deserves and it is only fair that he have to earn his spot since he chose to come to camp late and out of shape so he couldn’t pass a conditioning test to get on the field and compete for his position. Make him earn it.

  62. TDHawk says: Aug 22, 2010 8:19 AM

Albert should ask for a refund from his personal trainer. How effective must that trainer be to produce Albert’s results of failed conditioning test and dehydration?

  63. Mooch says: Aug 22, 2010 8:41 AM

Shanahan wanted to rattle this guy’s cage, he did, and now he must live with the consequences.
You had no shot at beating Albert down. Why? Because he knows the ‘game’. He knows he is the Skins best defensive players. He knows they cannot cut or even deal him with such a huge cap number.
Shanahan should never hae gone at him. It was 100% personal on his part.
    It’s a business, Mike “.500″ Shanahan!

  64. Mooch says: Aug 22, 2010 8:52 AM

“…it is only fair that he have to earn his spot since he chose to come to camp late and out of shape so he couldn’t pass a conditioning test to get on the field and compete for his position. Make him earn it.”
Or what? They’ll cut him? Can’t. Trade him? Can’t. Too much money, it’s a cap killer.
Bench him? Who does that help? He’s a douche, but he is still their best defensive player and worth actual wins and losses.
There is no play here. They were screwed the minute they inked him to such a big deal.

  65. rbais2 says: Aug 22, 2010 9:07 AM

Shanahan kinda got what he asked for by switching (unnecessarily) to a 3-4 and giving an underachieving bank robber a $21 million roster bonus.
But, if Andre Carter and London Fletcher can shut their mouths while the former sucked in Mike Nolan’s 3-4 defense in San Francisco and the latter is undersized for it, then the fat bank robber can too.
Is it me, or is every picture of Albert Haynesworth on recent news reports of him looking tired???

Between his selfishness and ignorance, he’s a prime example of why professional sports in general and the NFL in particular are starting to go down, and why I gave up my season tickets. He skips the OTAs — even though everyone else was there — makes a general nuisance of himself, and just expects to have his job handed to him on a silver platter upon his return? You have to earn that job back and, from what I saw last night, he didn’t even look that good against second-stringers. He even has the gall to say that he won’t be at OTAs next season! I say keep him with the second-stringers until he acts like a professional and proves he’s committed to the team and not just himself.

Shannyi s a genius! The Redskins would have had a real tough time getting any of that money back if Haynesworth had stayed away. Now, they can get him under the league conduct policy and fine him for this kind of stupid stuff. So, Shanny pushes him hard and either gets the guy to sign off on the program, or to bitch about it – yielding either a player who can and will play or an excuse to take back some of that money. Genius! Count in fat Albert to not be able to resist…

You just don’t get it. Albert is always going to win. Why? Because you gave him so much money that you can’t punish or even lightly penalize him. He OWNS the Redskins.
Any defensive plan for 2010 starts and ends with Albert. He is critical.
Shanahan? He’s just a .500 coach who can’t win without a 2,000 yard rusher and a All-Time Great HOF QB. You can take him or leave him.
Ask yourself this – what would a real winning coach like Jimmy Johnson do? He’d baby the baby instead of engaging him in a battle of wills he had no shot at winning.
Redskins 2010 gonna be a comedy show.

    Oh crap, you are correct.
So you can cut him and eat what – $21MM?
That’s great business, but as you point out – it is an option.

Haynesworth continues to make Shanahan and the Redskins look like idiots.

  92. Buckeye2280 says: Aug 22, 2010 11:15 AM

There is not cap, but they did just give him 20 mil this year. Sorry but OchoCinco didnt show up here to the work outs in the natti other players all over the league don’t show up for VOLUNTARY work outs. Shanny needs to pull the tampon out and realize the players don’t have to show up and that he is not god. Fact is, I don’t blame players who get a new coach changing things dramatically from 1 scheme to the next and then just expect all players to want to play in it or fit that scheme. He wants to play in a 4-3, its not his fault Shanny pulled a switch. Coaches have to get the best from their players not the other way around. Shanny needed to talk to all his players and get a feel for them. Instead he made a switch and picked a fight with his best player and then made it personal.

Sounds like he will be cut loose any day now. can’t wait to fix him and sign him for a fraction of what he got last time. See you soon Albert.
    signed, Bengal nation.

Don’t listen to zappa above. Keep posting about the Vikings.
    Thank You

A unnamed source close to Albert Haynesworth’s personal trainer confirmed that THE REDSKINKS ARE INDEED HIDING A SERIOUS INJURY FROM THE MEDIA, THE FANS, AND THE NFL. BIG AL SUFFERED A MASSIVE WEDGIE IN PRACTICE LAST WEEK. DANG, THAT HURT!
And the Truth Shall Set Florio Free!
Florio – Albert is a piece of shit. Move on to covering real news. Like how the ‘Skins running backs got their asses handed to them. If you can’t run the ball it goning to be a looooooong season.

Ravens secondary made a fool of McNabb lol
    _________________
You Ravens fans MUST be delusional if you actually think McNabb looked bad against your bum ass secondary, he threw for 200 yards and had 8 DROPS, PLUS a TD to Fred Davis that he dropped! Hell without those drops he may have thrown for 300 YARDS, what IDIOTS! One thing is for sure you better hope Ed Reed gets back soon because you bums were EXPOSED! The only thing you have is the BLITZ, period, and McNabb made you look foolish on those as well! Suggs should have had a sack in the endzone, but McNabb being McNabb shrugged his ass off, please.

Redskin Fans, We know what Fat Al did this offseason so the people that say good for him are dont have a clue. Marcinek let me guess you didnt even watch the game, you check the fantasy site that you paid for and McNabb had a red arrow next to it. You sir are an idiot. I get the feeling at the very least the NFC East has taken notice. That is why there is so much hate. D looks good. Haynesworth will fall in line. If not he will sit just like he did last night. People will become tired of him.
    Hail.

    To Do List…
    1) Fit Albert for a Cowboys uniform (2010)
    2) Fir Donovan for a Vikings uniform (2011)
Yep, Skins FA plan headed in the right direction.

Dude what game did you watch? He picked the secondary apart, especially in the 2nd quarter.
This clown is a reflection of the failing educational system in the nation.
I don’t know about the middle school you didn’t graduate from….but according to people with that level of an education ….with a stat line of 11 for 26 and 1 int……I’m quite certain they would NOT ascertain that as “He picked the secondary apart”
I think they would try and guess who had more patented “groundouts”, LTM or Strasburg.
Enjoy that stat line cause you’re going to see that more and more often…even if he does hit a few bombs.
He is the black Jay Schroeder. Enjoy
    ===================================
First of all bitch, you are a product of inbreed upbringing who probably did not attend schooling at all.
While you sat in your trailer and listened to the game on your Hi-Fi, the rest of the of world saw, McNabb move the ball through the air with ease. With second team linemen in the game. I believe Heyer and Hicks were in the game during the Second quarter. Sellers, Cooley, and Galloway were on the bench by the middle of the 2nd and he was still moving the team up the field with just Moss and Davis. I guess you were in the outhouse while all of this was going on.
Baltimore has issues at the safety and corners positions and The Steelers are going to shit all over them. The biggest laugh of the night was the fact they dumped gatorade on Zorn, like they achieved something big. Flacco looked like the White Jason Campbell. You won a preseason game. Typical Ravens, still living likes its 2001. Enjoy

“Or what? They’ll cut him? Can’t. Trade him? Can’t. Too much money, it’s a cap killer.”
What is this “cap” of which you speak? The salary cap? Yeah, there isn’t one.
    ====================================
Actually Haynesworth is a cap friendly pick-up. The skins have already paid most of the guaranteed money. The majority of his contract now is just incentive and base. Its his attitude that makes him a hard trade.

“Dude what game did you watch? He picked the secondary apart, especially in the 2nd quarter.”
I have to wonder if you were watching the right game. McNabb was 7 of 14 for 110 yards and an INT (44.7 passer rating) and two penalties for 18 yards in the 2nd quarter.
    ====================================
I don’t know if you played organized football or not, but I know if we gave up a 110 yards through the air in a quarter our coach would be pissed. Not to mention there were about three drops by receivers who were wide open. So yeah, that’s the game I saw.

    BOLDFACE IS BEAUTIFUL.
The H-Train is just trying to somehow someway get traded again to some 4-3 right B4 the regular season starts. Anyplace is looking better to SeƱor Alberto right now than the weathered rat face of that fossil Shanahan. A new team & coaching staff will tread lightly around him so he has nothing to lose.

  106. Gray Eagle says: Aug 22, 2010 1:37 PM

Dealing with Mr. Haynesworth is an exercise in Political Correctness. In this instance, PC is a doctrine proposing that
it’s possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

    LOL…this idiot is serious?
Dude, Low Throw McBlow had at LEAST 4 “groundouts” during the first half and no matter how you spin it….11 of 26 with one boneheaded INT…..sucks ass no matter how you want to spin it.
He is a ground ball pitcher though. He could give Strasburg some advice.

Again Ass Monkey, do you think a secondary yielding the length of the football plus ten through the air, in one quarter is acceptable? If so, you tell me one coach who would be satisfied with that.
It’s not rocket science, despite the drops, despite the pick, despite the ground balls, 110 yards was still gained in the air. Period. And I’m not even talking about the 100 yards he got in the first quarter.

  110. Mike Daly says: Aug 25, 2010 2:15 PM

Mooch – are you kidding? Jimmy Johnson would cut Haynesworth like he did Curvin Richards before the 1992 playoffs.
