Broncos-Lions one-liners

The Lions scored on all four Matthew Stafford drives in a 25-20 over Denver. (And they could have scored more if two TD tries weren’t dropped.)

Matthew Stafford called WR Calvin Johnson’s 20-yard score a “special catch.”

There was a dramatic drop-off for the second straight week when the Lions’ backups entered the game.

The Lions are coming up with ways for rookie DT Ndamukong Suh to avoid double teams.

Detroit’s pass rush can use some work.

Lions FB Jerome Felton could wind up touching the ball more this year.

Broncos coach Josh McDaniels was impressed with Kyle Orton’s ability to improvise. “He was running a lot in the first quarter, which is obviously not his forte and it’s not what we’re looking for either. But I thought he did a decent job of really maneuvering in the pocket, out of the pocket. He kept some plays alive that let us keep some drives going.”

After a slow start, Orton’s two-minute drill was a thing of beauty.

Orton commented on WR Jabar Gaffney, who led all receivers with 6 catches for 98 yards: “I think he’s underrated in his playmaking skills. He made a lot of really nice catches for us in tight coverage but he’s certainly one of our most dependable players on offense.”

Broncos LB Robert Ayers finally has a sack! (Even if it was in the preseason.)

The Denver Post thinks there may be Tim Tebow fans rooting against Orton.

The Broncos are using free agent pickup CB Nate Jones in a variety of roles.
